    To tell coworkers or not?

Well said! I've struggled with whether to tell co-workers, and you hit the nail on the head!

Thanks for that tip! Wouldn't have thought of it!

    Surgery

I would go with what your personal surgeon says, not what you've read, or someone else's surgeon. Yours knows you best. Good luck whatever you choose. HW 246 SW ?? CW 238 Planning on gastric bypass

    Barium swallow

Ugh! I'm afraid I'll choke and gag, but yup, an enema would be worse! Thanks for the replies! Sarah HW 246 SW ?? CW 238 Planning on gastric bypass
  7. Went for my first consultation with bariatric surgeon today. And he said I was a complicated patient, partly because I take several psych meds and am interested in bypass rather than sleeve because I have GERD and Type 2 diabetes. He's worried about managing drug levels after bypass. Anyone have input into this? Do they monitor levels of psych meds? Thanks. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    my Lunch and snack today

Wow! That's encouraging to me. I'm pre-surgery and thrilled to see one can eat like that after surgery. I guess I always imagined we'd be limited to like 1/2 a cup at a time. Looks good and healthy! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I’m not sure what surgery to do?

I have the same question and am glad you posted this. My issue is that I have reflux and diabetes, so on that hand bypass looks like the choice, but... I take antidepressants which might not absorb well after bypass, making the sleeve look like a better choice. So, surgeon says my case is complicated. We've tentatively settled on the bypass. But I'm just starting this journey and things could change. I am about 120 lbs over my ideal weight with a BMI 43. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    NSAIDs

Oh, sillykitty you're brilliant! I found a place that sells it a few towns away, and my son is going to go get me some!! Here's hoping it works. Thanks for your suggestion. Sarah Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    NSAIDs

oh! That's good news. What doctor prescribes it, and where do you obtain it from? Our state has dispensaries for medical marijuana but I don't know about CBD.

    NSAIDs

I just checked out Connecticut's laws on medical marijuana and it can't be used for general pain, only very limited conditions. Hopefully they'll expand it. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    NSAIDs

Yes, I have definitely thought about that for pain, and will discuss with my PCP after surgery . Thanks for mentioning it!

    NSAIDs

Thanks for the replies. My surgeon says No NSAIDS ever again regardless of which type of surgery I have. Guess I'm just wondering what else I can take for pain, but it will probably have to be tylenol.

Medical and phase 2 food options

Thanks for the clarification, Sleeved36. I guess my fear was being unconscious from a car accident and winding up in the ER unable to speak for myself, and that they might do something which could rupture the pouch. But, if that doesn't happen then no worries!! Appreciate your input.
  16. Hi, maybe this should be posted on pre-surgery, but I'd love to hear from those who considered bypass, but selected sleeve surgery. I am just starting this journey and am considering both RNY and sleeve and can't decide which would be best for me. My surgeon does a larger percentage of sleeves. I have serious GERD and diabetes type 2. So I thought RNY would be better, but then I'd have to worry about "dumping" and having my intestines rearranged! How did you eventually decide on VSG??? Medical and phase 2 food options

I haven't had surgery yet, but have heard it is a good idea to wear a medical bracelet that indicates you've had weight loss surgery and therefore first responders shouldn't use a blind ng tube in case of emergency, or give you NSAIDS. I'm not sure if I'm doing sleeve or RNY, but plan on getting a bracelet. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Did you consider bypass?

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies. I appreciate hearing your thought processes, and how you made your decisions. It is helpful to me!

    Aetna questions....any insurance question

My insurance, Anthem BCBS, requires that the visits and nutritional visits be done through the surgeon who is doing the surgery. Just my experience though. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Just starting out

Hi. There! I'm brand new to this process too! This Thursday is my informational seminar and I meet with the surgeon one on one next Thursday. My insurance requires 6 months of nutritional visits, so I'm hoping for late 2018, early 2019 gastric bypass. Nice to meet you! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

FL Anthem BCBS 6 month req HELP! :-)

I also have Anthem BCBS, and doctors office says I need yo see a hospital based nutritionist every month for 6 months. My plan wording is the same as yours. I interpret it as needing to be continuous. No breaks. Unfortunately you may have to go back to April and start your 6 months there. :-( Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
