    Sleeve or Bypass?

Wow, I could have written your post! I am 2 months into my 6 months of requirements. I started off wanting the bypass because I have GERD, but I take some meds for depression which may not be absorbed properly with the bypass, so in that sense the sleeve would be better. I'm so conflicted, but still leaning towards the bypass. Good luck with your decision! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    INSURANCE

Clarify what, exactly? I have Anthem BC BS and I also have to be followed by the surgeon and nutritionist for 6 months, have a psych evaluation, cardiology visit, stress test, and attend two support group meetings, and have a barium swallow test. Like allwet said, it all sounds completely normal and expected. Are you getting two different sets of requirements depending on the doctor? If so, I'd go first with what your insurance requirements are. Then your bariatric surgeon shiuld do what insurance requires. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Has anyone tried protein water?

I don't like Protein20, but just tried Trimino, which has 7 gm protein per bottle and it is really good. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    What to tell coworkers?

I'll be watching your responses as I am worried about telling my supervisor as well. I think she'll be negative and judgmental. I don't plan to tell coworkers but that could change after the surgery. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    6 days Post-Op Gastric Bypass

I have a Tespo machine that uses powdered bariatric vitamins and makes it into a small "shot" to drink. Maybe that would help you. You actually dont need the machine. And can mix your own. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. Hi, Missouri- Lee's Summit, yes, I'm quite upset and concerned! Thanks for your support, and the info you posted. My bariatric surgeon requires a psych evaluation and hopefully the psych he sends me to will be more encouraging and helpful than my personal psych. I have the mindset that I'm going to have the RNY, and get healthy finally (I have a lot of comorbidities). I don't want to be freaking out about possible medication problems. 12. CyclicalLoser, thanks for starting this thread, which I'm watching closely as my psychiatrist told me emphatically not to have RNY because of the drug malabsorption issues. I'm stil pre op, and don't know what to do. I can't do the sleeve because of GERD. Hope you sort your meds out and feel better soon.

    Challenge for the Pre Ops

Late to the party, but I need serious help in this area!! Great idea, AshAsh1!! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. LOL! I thought I was the only one who said Flying fig newton!!!
  15. My psychiatrist strongly discouraged me from bypass due to drug malabsorption issues. So now I'm leaning towards VSG. I have GERD which is fairly well controlled by taking a PPI and an acid reducer. Is there any way to predict if the sleeve will make my GERD unmanageable? I guess now my choices are sleeve or no surgery at all, and frankly for other health reasons, and being 110 lbs overweight, I need to have surgery!! Thanks! Already have GERD, need sleeve advice

Thanks, S@ssen@ch. I appreciate your advice. This wasn't my psych eval, though, but my personal psychiatrist who is worried about mental health flare ups from improperly absorbed psych meds after bypass. I see what you're saying, though. It should be a decision I make with the surgeon. It's just so confusing, and such a big decision!! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Already have GERD, need sleeve advice

Thanks for your reply. I had an upper endoscopy 2 years ago, but can't remember the results. I should try to get them from the doctor. I know I'm negative for H. Pylori. It is encouraging to me that you manage ok with meds. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Ugh, I'm still on the fence about which surgery I want. Complicated because I have reflux, so RNY looks like a better choice, but I've been totally scared away from RNY by these boards. I'm worried about loud stomach gurgling, loud uncontrollable flatus, and super stinky poops. I work in an office and may sometimes have to go to court, and loud rumbling and gas would be very embarrassing! Help!!! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. Lol JohnnyCakes! Some elements of stinky, but not gag and run out of the room!! That's what I'm afraid of !! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Oops! Changed my mind

I have exactly the same issue. I'm pre-op, and my surgeon at first recommended the sleeve because of the absorption issue with my psych meds and bypass. Then we discussed my severe reflux and decided to do the bypass because of that. Just going to work closely with psychiatrist and test my levels of meds. I think if you don't have reflux then the sleeve is the way to go. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
