    help

Hi, and welcome. Sorry for your chronic back pain. I was in the same boat when I started this journey. I have a back condition where one vertebrae slips over the other and makes it painful to walk. I received an injection which helped. I qualified for gastric bypass and had surgery 2 weeks ago. Do you need any comorbidities or do you qualify without them? So far I pleased I had the surgery, and believe that losing weight will help my back problems. Best wishes to you! Post op

I agree with the other posters, my surgeon insisted on walking right away, and when I was discharged the instructions were to walk AT LEAST 3 times a day. I have been using my treadmill since I got home. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Diabetic and sleeved

I had Gastric Bypass so it may be different, but I was off all diabetes meds when I got home from the hospital, and my diabetes is in remission!! First few days I couldn't regulate, and had some serious lows. Now, 13 days out, my blood sugar stays between 90-95 all day. Of course I am not eating food though!!! That's great! Ask for something in writing, like the specific coverage so you're not surprised later! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    4 days post op

Sorry you're going through this. Have you tried protein shakes? Also, are you permitted to start multi vitamins yet? The iron in the vitamins may help stop you up a bit and prevent diarrhea. I had gastric bypass, so I'm not familiar with sleeves, so I don't know if you have dumping or something else. Please contact your bariatric team, and feel better! I agree with KCgirl. Your employer has chosen not to include Bariatric surgery as part of what they purchade insurance coverage for. Definitely reach out to HR. An appeal won't work. Sorry. Hope you eventually get it covered and get your surgery ! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Eating disorders and was

Hi there. In my past I was Anorexic. I talked with the surgeon and psychologist about this, and neither were too worried. They suggested seeing a therapist. I think it is more common than we think. I just had surgery 12 days ago, so it was not a bar to surgery. Take care of yourself and best of luck to you!! I need help!

Hi, Melissa, I just wanted to say welcome! I don't have any words of wisdom as I just had my surgery 12 days ago, but stick around a while and join in the conversations. Lots of good advice here!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. Our team did not have a specific amount they wanted us to lose. They just wanted to see a loss every month. One month I gained 7 pounds, and lost it the next month. Despite the gain, I was recommended for surgery, and approved by my insurance company. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Arthritis pain

I second the Diclofenac cream, but don't need it anymore since my steroid injections. If you can't do the shots, the Diclofenac cream really does help a bit. Yup, Tylenol sucks!! Lol! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Soft Food Early

It hasn't even been 2 weeks since your surgery. Just sayin'! The surgeons have this plan for a reason. I had bypass the same day and am still on clear liquids! I know all surgeons are different. Enjoy your soft foods! I dont get them for another 2 weeks!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre OP bypass

Oh, I see! I have 2 oz espresso glasses, and have also learned to sip small amounts from a 24 oz water bottle. I don't usually "over sip", but when I do I get a sore pouch! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Diet

No problems. It takes me 12 hours though, to get in 100 ounces. I just sip slowly all day long. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

My progress - March 27th Surgery

Hi! I had my surgery the same day as you. I have 3 more days of clear liquids then my follow up with nutritionist and surgeon on Wednesday. Unlike you, I've been blessed to have absolutely NO hunger. I do spend time planning bariatric friendly recipes I will be able to eat in a few weeks. Somehow it helps me get thru the endless shakes and fluids. I have not lost tons of weight because I gained 10 pounds of water weight in the hospital. I'm losink ar a rate of a pound a day, which I'm happy with. I am supposed to walk at least 3 times a day, but have only managed 2 times. Still have a little bit of pain. All in all, my recovery is bettet that I expected. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post op liquids

I'm 11 days out from my RNY, and have been drinking 100 oz a day since my first day home from the hospital. It takes all day. I get ip and have 10 oz protein shake over about 45 minutes, then fill up a 24 oz bottle with Crystal Light and start sip, sip, sipping. I repeat all day, having about 30 oz protein shake, and the rest either Crystal Light or warm tea. I finish around 7 pm. Good luck!! It is possible. 21. My surgeon, and his whole team, practice at a bariatric center of excellence. Their approach is holistic, and they prepare patients every step of the way for success. I had other options, but went with my surgeon because of all this, his level of experience, and my confidence in his skills. Couldn't be happier. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    3 days out😞

Ive been drinking the surgeon's goal for me since day 4. You must continue to take continuous baby sips even though you have gas pains. Dehydration is the number one cause of hospital readmissions. You can do this! The pains get better every day. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. I too have picked the middle of "normal" BMI range for my goal. I have only been morbidly obese for 25 of my 57 years, and was slim before that. My feeling is that I'm not going through all this to remain in the obese or overweight category. My surgeon focuses more on gains in health than losses in weight. He says his paitents should see a loss of 60 percent of excess wright, which would still leave me quite heavy. I need to lose 120 pounds to get to my goal. I plan to be successful!!!
