Absolutely!
I worried myself into almost backing out. I decided to simply follow my NUT pre surgery diet plan to the letter for 30 days and ended up gaining. That was the moment i knew i didnt have the tools to complete the job alone. I was sold. VSG was for me. I had an easy recovery which will not be everyones journey, but i was willing to deal with the side effects if any arose. Do what is right for you.

Generally speaking, people afraid of surgery are people who haven't had surgery. Bariatric surgery has vastly proven to be the best alternative both cost effective and Healthwise. I'm willing to bet hard cash against anyone that can bring me a scientific paper from a reputable source that says otherwise.
When you go back in a few months and look at this thread, looking and feeling great, you can print it and place it on a prominent place at your workplace.

I learned to not take advice on weight loss surgery unless the person had went through it themselves. That is the only way to really get a realistic idea of what it is like.

This is a huge decision so no surprise that you're having second thoughts. However, I wish I'd done this 10 years ago when a doctor first suggested it! Your co-workers are well-meaning but not well-informed. They haven't done the research and have likely just heard that you can only ever eat a tablespoon of food ever again (I had someone tell me that). The first few weeks are tough. Won't lie and say they're not. But 15 weeks out, I went out with hubby last night, had a bowl of chili (well, not all of it - big bowl) and even had my first drink post-op. Life is "normal" but I would say I eat like those "skinny b*****s" we used to see out. No one at work knows I've had surgery and they just think I've reduced my portions, but they see me eat and don't bat an eye.

I’m a month out from having my surgery and I don’t regret it at all. My only regret is that I didn’t jump on the chance to have it done 7-8 years ago when my liver specialist first recommended it to me because I was too scared to even consider it at the time. This time that it was recommended to me I did the research and agreed that it was what I needed after all. I had 2 friends who already had the surgery talk to me about their experiences as well as coming on here reading about others experiences helped me feel better about making this decision to have the surgery. You are going to do wonderfully! The first day or two are the roughest on how you feel afterwards but it improves every day. You will be feeling great before you know it!

I'm glad to hear this. As many others have said, you have done the research, you know what is best for you. These people do not know your struggle. This intervention was really unfair to you and comes from a place of ignorance.

I would do this all over again without a bit of hesitation. It is an unbelievably hard change in mindset and a very hard decision to make when you are in that stage. I was in the same boat where I thought about cancelling mine. I am so thankful that I didn’t and stuck it out and got the surgery. This journey we are all on is not easy. The good news is that it does get easier as time goes on and we get further down the road. I am now just shy of 7 months out from my surgery and what started as a mental and physical struggle has now become a new healthy lifestyle. I am enjoying life much more now that I am healthier and more active. I wish you the best of luck on your journey, and hope to see you in here post op telling us all of your success stories and milestones met.

Be positive! It's life changing. Most people wish they'd gone for it long before they did! I'm day 12 post op...thankfully no regrets.

I would so do it again in a heartbeat. How many other things have you tried? How many worked? How long do you want to stay on that hamster wheel doing the same thing over and over and getting the same result? It is work. You will have to change your diet. You do have to follow the rules. But this surgery makes it possible. I highly recommend doing more research. Get the statistics. Are the potential health benefits worth it? Is fitting into your life and the world more comfortably worth it? Oh yea! Read, read, read until the answer becomes clear and you are comfortable with YOUR decision.

I am three days out post op and i wouldn’t have changed my mind. This was the best decision I’ve made. Yes there may be some struggles at first and I’m still experiencing a few but this is the start of my new life. Your coworker does not know how you feel inside about yourself. This surgery has to be done for you and for you only which is why i only confided in people whom I knew would support me. I knew my mother would not support me so i did not tell her because weight loss is more than just a physical change, it’s also mental and an emotional change. Good luck and i hope you don’t let your coworkers change your mind
