Just under 6 weeks post op and down around 55lb. Visiting friends in Germany and ended up doing something I’ve not done for a fair while - looking forward to getting back into it 😃

I had surgery end of August and lost 107 lbs. I was 267 and got down to 160. However, I’m about to gain 20-50 lbs on steroids. That’s fun.

Anyway, it can happen. My doctor claims I have 25 lbs to go but my friends say they’ll send me to eating disorder treatment. I wear a size 25 at the gap!

We were told that sauces were our friends for dry meats. LIke, my nutritionists advise it LOL. I use yogurt dressings, balsamics, or some naturally sweetened with honey ketchup, much smaller amounts that pre-op though.

Some people might scold me, but I still sauce things, especially meats. I use sugar free BBQ Sauce, low fat ranch, low sodium gravy, A-1 sauce, ect. It helps get the meats down. I say as long as you measure and include it in your calorie/fat intake for the day, its worth a shot.

My NUT was great. I know everyone has different experiences though. I had to do a year of NUT visits as a pre req. I lost almost 60 lbs. She helped me really get ready for what to expect after surgery and to cut out of foods and drinks that I wouldn’t be able to have any more.
Just tell your NUT about your fears right at the beginning. Mine didn’t give me much sympathy, which I actually really appreciate since this is a huge life change. I’m glad she really prepared me for what was coming.

My NUT is so sweet you can eat her like pie. But having said that, she looked at what I was eating and gave the honest truth about it. So brace yourself, sometimes the truth hurts. She also worked with me to find winning solutions for my situation. I work a very demanding job, have financial issues, and family issues including taking care of a disabled person. Ham salad heavy on the mayo? I just don't think that will fly... but I could be wrong.. maybe its okay for your body and situation. I know my Nut has me making ham roll ups for lunch. That is where I take several thin slices of ham, a slice of real cheddar cheese (not the processed kind) and roll it around shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers or other salad type veggies.... its sooooooooooo yummy. (I'm in the pre - pre op phase, not the liquid diet phase yet). I can even dip it in ranch dressing (the regular kind not the low fat kind) if I want to but here it the key, I had to let the carbs go.... even the low carb breads and wraps. She told me if I couldn't do that then she would have to find another plan for me. So a good NUT will find what works for you but you have to be willing to at least try what they suggest and report back the honest truth on what you are and are not doing so they can know what adjustments to make. I reported back my fruit servings and it was way too many so they changed it and now I'm losing again. You have to open yourself up, put the past in the past and look at this as a new journey. Be willing to at least try and if you find yourself choking or whatever document it and go back so they can adjust. But just try.

THANK YOU... I certainly wasn't under the illusion that I was gonna feel awesome 3 days out from major surgery, just trying to set realistic expectations for myself for when things should start to be on the upswing. It's easy for me to watch the healing progress on the outside, but inside not so much. I'm going to experiment a bit with temperatures; I had just noticed that cold drinks seemed to get "stuck" (or cause a spasm or something), so I'll try some other temps.

I feel amazing. The surgery was the best decision I ever made. The only problem I had was a little gas, but walking and sleeping upright cured it. I no longer have knee pains, I have more energy and the funniest thing is my friend calls me a "cheap date" because when we go out to eat, I can only eat two or three bites and I'm full. I don't miss the junk I used to eat and can't wait to get to my goal weight!

Quite frankly, I hope your dietician doesn't have a lot of sympathy. What you need is good and honest information and no slack. Because I promise you, your pouch won't give you slack when you go to eat something sweet and end up dumping. Don't stress about it, don't eat things you cant swallow, but that doesn't give you the go ahead to eat crap either. If you go through this surgery with these types of excuses or reservations and if you don't toughen up... you won't succeed. This is a HARD thing to do. You don't want excuses to ruin it for you.

Beta98 reacted to Matt Z in TERRIFIED of first dietitian apt tomorrow
Well, you are absolutely going to need to change how you eat, there isn't any way around that fact mate. Post surgery you are going to have to focus on what you need first. Proteins, Water, the "good for you stuff", carbs are almost dead last. You need *SOME* carbs, but there are better places to get them from than breads. Just be honest with your Nutritionist, about everything, including your fears about your Nutritionist. No one here was eating perfectly before surgery... and no one here is eating perfectly after surgery, we've just gotten a LOT better.

There are plenty of "do-able" healthy options. You don't *NEED* Toast, you want it, carbs are addictive and can be hard to shake, but you CAN do it. Post surgery you *might* not have any cravings, you *might* not be hungry a lot, you *might* be a lot of things. You won't know until after you have the surgery. But for me, cravings still exist, but I can control them and not cave in to the easier food just because it's easier. I still get hungry here and there, not too much, and certainly not as much as before, but it's there in some aspect and I've read lots of people do end up getting a full hunger sensation back a year or so down the line, some never do.

Seems you need to battle convenience more than anything. You don't need to divulge but, I can't thing of any reason where food prep is not possible... you just have to find something that works for your situation. Some folks cook a weeks worth of food on the weekend so they don't need to worry about prep the rest of the week. Me, I don't bother personally, there are plenty of quick, easy options that are within my post-op food guidelines.

Be ready for some major changes, they really need to happen. So don't go into this with the mentality that the surgery is going to have to work around you, you are going to have to work around your surgery.

Azmassage, I get it now! I know someone that had surgery 2 and 1/2 months ago. They went in weighing 425 and thus far have loss 40. This was perplexing to me... seem like they should have lost much more in almost 3 months. Then today when I was talking about what I'm eating now the person spoke up and said, wow you're eating more restrictive than me. So I said what do you mean, and they showed me there grocery receipt from this past weekend... ! Salami, pasta... all kinds.. like stuffed with cheese such... just all sorts over processed foods and stuff, wine, diet sodas, ice cream, chocolate MILK.. the list went on and on. I'm like some of this is for your spouse right? And they told me no, that was just their food, the spouse buys their own stuff now so not to be a temptation.... ??? The entire time I was thinking, you need to substitute this with that and this with that... but I didn't dare say a word... we aren't close like that, just co workers. So I did ask, aren't you having problems keeping some of this stuff down? and they said at first but they worked through it.... Where is this person's nutritionist? Are they looking at the food logs?
Now I'm going to stop complaining and thank my lucky stars I am in this long program. Yes it is going to take forever for me to get my surgery but I'm so glad they are giving me the proper eating plans now, making me go through counseling (which I hate) review my weight and food logs every week and all the other stuff. I think some people need that kind of time and exercises before committing to surgery, including me. This person didn't have to do all of that because they went through their spouses plan where it is covered where as we are not covered so I'm having to go through a clinical trial program and there is a lot to do before I can even get final approval for the surgery. So sometimes its good to just be grateful for what God (or whatever higher power a person believes in) has provided you with and stop wishing you had what the other side has.
I'm just shocked but thought about your post and wanted to say yes you are correct!

I also had a little bit of a "freak out" moment last week when the hospital posted the results of the biopsy done of the stomach tissue that the surgeon removed. It was described as "glistening, pink, healthy tissue". Yes, I'm thankful that it wasn't diseased... but it did freak me a little to think that I voluntarily removed most of a perfectly healthy organ.
I was sleeved on 5/18 and I truly DO feel hunger... but I'm learning not to fear that hunger... rather eat that small amount every two hours like my nutritionist suggested and never feel ravenous.

If u ever look at most people meal plans once they can eat normal that is why they do not lose weight. I been YouTubeing people meals and I am stunned. Even though there might be high Protein in certain meats (one girl had sausage) they are high in fat. They also adding whipped cream to everything they can. This is why u don’t see the loss. The ones I have seen lose 100 under 300 are eating fish chicken turkey and veggies. Putting healthy fats in there diet. And keeping up with the exercise routine with lots of weight training. The others just walk.

This is probably why the 4 to 6 month pre diet they have me on is the way that it is. High Protein but lean protein with added healthy fats, veggies, certain fruits, no processed foods, grains, breads, etc. To prepare me in eating the correct way for when solids come back afterwards. Its a long program but I think they have their reasons for making it this way. I envy the people that can get their surgery in 1 to 3 months wait but this long almost a year way may actually work out better for me. thanks!

Highest recorded weight 271.5 in April 2016 but I was probably about 290 a year earlier. I'm 5'3" tall and was 55 at time of surgery. I was sleeved
    HW 271.5 April 2016
    Surgery weight 246 (8/23/16)
    Current Weight 156
That would be 115 pounds. I haven't had my plastics done yet, but that will likely be about another 10 pounds. My body fat right now is around 31%. I'm working on getting it to 28%.
My team has asked me to speak with the support groups as a success story. I've lost a grown person.
Here's a photo of me from the other day (before going to the gym - so hair's a mess and no makeup) standing in one leg of a pair of shorts I used to wear. I went from a size 24 to a size 6.
