  1. Surgery 6/21, down 40 lbs so far, absolutely no issues with anything so far. Going to Disney end of this month, at the 3 month mark, and also have the dining plan. I plan to enjoy myself but still try to make certain I get enough Protein and exceeed my daily Water needs. Iโ€™m taking my GENEPRO Protein Powder and some sugarfree pudding cups (the non-refrigerated ones), so if I donโ€™t feel like I made my Protein for the day itโ€™s easy enough to add 10-30g of protein to a cup of pudding before bed. Since youโ€™re with so many others you wonโ€™t be wasting food when you canโ€™t finish more than a small portion of your meal cuz they can help out lol. Especially the free dessert with dinner. Enjoy a bite or two, if your tummy can handle it than share with others. Same with the alcohol. I donโ€™t drink but get a wine with my dinners and my husband can enjoy it after I try a sip or two. Iโ€™m at least 50-60 lbs own from last trip there a few years ago and looking forward to not worrying about if Iโ€™ll fit ok in the rollercoaster seats. Last time missed out on one of them. Stay safe in the storm right now, Good luck with your surgery and have an awesome vacay!!
Please update me after your trip and tell me how everything went![emoji1]

  2. It's totally individualized results...
I don't consume alcohol so I can't help you there
Generally you'll want to follow your post surgical plan to the letter and discuss any modifications to it with your team, but really wait until after surgery to consider the all of the details...
Yeah i am going to tell him about my vacation at the meeting before the surgery and see what he has to say about it. Id rather be prepared to have a tough time and know the worst case scenarios.

  3. Book it girl!! Just follow your recovery instructions from the doctor so you are in the best shape you can be. The trip will give you something to look forward to.
Its booked thats why im so scared! No going back now even if the day before i am not doing so well. I cant do that to his family being the only non blood or marriage relative. Putting a lot of pressure on my recovery but I guess all i can do is follow the instructions to the letter and hope for the best... i am still on the fence as to whether i will even get the surgery once i get the call to see if insurance approved me or not... but deep down i think ive already decided to. Just scared to say definitively yet.

  5. My surgery was perfection, not a single complication, i now had increased energy, always took Vitamins, exceed my hydration goals, met my Protein goals..
I planned my vacation before I thought about surgery, so at 4 months post op I met with my NUT to discuss the plan for my vacation eating, etc. Because I knew there would be things off plan I wanted. They worked with me. It was great, no problems whatsoever.
Keep your team in the loop, focus on great healing prior and you should be ok.

Thats awesome thank you. They also bought the food package that includes 1 alcoholic drink. Im curious as to whether i will even be allowed to drink it. I know someone who got a bypass and she gets drunk off 2 drinks, so i know if i do drink not to have more than 1. But can i even have 1, 4.5 months post op? Or is that different for everyone too?

  7. I am going to disney for the second time with my boyfriend of 5 years and 18 of his family members. We take a vacation every year and i am the only one not blood related or married into the family. My surgery is scheduled for november 5th pending insurance approval... will i be able to do Disney cruise for 3 nights and then to Disney for 3 days mid March, without slowing anyone down, or being sick, or not able to do certain things? I cant be the only non blood relative and be a burden or a pain. Its causing me a lot of anxiety about the surgery.

  8. I dont understand why in all these nutritionist appointments and such i was told id need Vitamins everyday for the rest of my life. I just wish i could talk to my surgeon asap. But the scheduler said once insurance approves it i will be seeing him, before the surgery. So i guess i can ask him all these questions then. But yes, my nutritionist told me with the sleeve i will have to take vitamins everyday for the rest of my life. I guess in a perfect world if i ate perfectly i might not need to but. How can you find out what vitamins youre low on? Just a blood test? I guess its all a process. A very daunting process. I think i still want the sleeve, because that is what all the doctors have said based on my case would be best for me. I am just worried that i wont be able to tolerate so many foods. And that will make life so much more difficult. Lifes hard enough without having to be like well i cant eat lettuce beef this that and the other. I know im venting very hard right now i appreciate your patience and advice

  9. The sleeve doesn't require much added Vitamins, because there isn't any malabsorption going on. So don't worry too much about that, when you are afraid of the change, just ask yourself this, whats going to happen to you if you don't make any changes? I know for me, when I was a stones throw from 400, I knew not doing the surgery was going to kill me. When I was revised from the band to the bypass, not having the surgery was the bigger risk. Weight loss gets harder and harder as we age.

You need to sit down and write out a full pro/con list. Because with the sleeve, a large portion of your stomach is going to be removed and thrown away. There is NO going back from the sleeve. The bypass is more reversible than the sleeve is, because the bypass, you get rerouted, but nothing is removed and the bypass is only reversed in very rare instances. Something else to think about as well.
What are the reasons people would want to reverse it? Because they cant eat what they want? Id rather be healthy. But if there are other reasons like your body cant tolerate a ton of foods and it just makes general day to day living extremely difficult because of your limited options and your special dietary needs. I thought they took out the part of the stomach that absorbs most of your vitamins and minerals and thats why vitamins were so important with the sleeve, but Theyre less important?

  10. So my surgery is scheduled, after 6 months of going through all the pre reqs. Waiting for insurance approval for gastric sleeve. I am terrified. Ive never had any type of surgery before, never broken a bone. I am terrified ill get sick of taking Vitamins everyday because someone told me their friend regrets getting it because of all the vitamins. I am terrified ill regret it and i cant take it back.

Waiting for insurance approval for November 5th. I guess i have until then to decide. My insurance required me to see a nutritionist 3 times each 4 weeks apart. I lost over 30lbs on my own. Ive lost all the weight 3 times on my own and gotten to my goal weight before i ever considered this surgery. But everytime i get there and im like "so i can eat what i want now right" and gain it all back plus some. But what if this time is different, i am 10 years older than when i first gained all this weight my senior year. I went through all this and learned a lot. What if i can do it on my own? But if i could wouldnt i have done it by now? I dont know what to do. I am super indecisive in normal life, trying to decide what shirt to wear each morning is a process. So how do I make this huge decision that I cant take back, like changing into a new shirt?

UGH. I read your post and got irrationally mad. It's the reason I didn't tell most people about my surgery beforehand. I don't need your unsolicited opinion on how *I* should handle *MY* body.

Maybe for them eating small portions and exercise worked. For me, I had a medical condition which wouldn't let my body lose weight. So despite eating right and exercising, it wasn't enough.

Next, it isn't about being skinny. It is about being healthy. My body is a car. I want what is under the hood to work well so I can drive it around for years to come. If good maintenance results in a good looking exterior, awesome. But that isn't the main goal.

Finally, f**k her for thinking it is the easy way out. The easy way out is doing nothing. The hard way is:

    * Accepting you need help. This one may sound easy but I know that for me, this was admitting that I couldn't handle this myself. It was admitting defeat.
    * Saving money for the doctor. Going to classes and education sessions for months to qualify for a major surgery.
    * Going on a strict diet prior to surgery.
*Staying on a strict diet after surgery.
*Staying on a strict diet and Vitamin routine for the rest of your life.

So the "easy" way out is an insanely strict diet and major surgery to get a tool installed?

Screw her. Sorry, you touched a nerve here. One of my husband's friends lived with us for about 6 months. He had gone from 350lbs to about 150 after getting diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. How did he do this? He switched from drinking a 12 pack of regular soda daily to a 12 pack of diet soda. Seriously, that was it and the weight evaporated off of him. I had to live with 6 months of watching him drink a gallon of milk a day, 12+ sodas daily and nothing but fast food, while he'd preach to me about how easy it was to lose weight if I just put in some effort. Meanwhile, I was weighing all of my meals, not touching carbs (or soda) and working out with no results.

My boyfriend started to get fat.... he stopped drinking soda for a month--boom back to his regular weight. Me? I DONT EVEN DRINK SODA. NEVER HAVE. Its just not fair ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  12. Goal weight- the amount you or your doctor feel would be best for you
Surgery weight- like is says, how much, you weighed,on hospital scales immediately, prior to surgery
Current weight-how much you weigh when you made this post
High weight- the most you weighed at the start of your journey.
in my case it was OMG I can't weigh THAT much, but I did and it was the final push into Bariatrics ---I promised myself I will NEVER weigh THAT MUCH AGAIN. It didn't look good, feel good [emoji45]and wasn't good for me[emoji46] So now I'm on the downward match toward a healthier more fit, life.

I got like GW but the current weight but the other ones i wasnt sure haha. I still have a 4 weeks before i can schedule my surgery so i still have a lot to learn! Thanks for helping me! And good luck on your journey!

  13. My parents said why dont you just diet and exercise like youve done before this is so extreme.... yes LIKE IVE DONE BEFORE. I have lost and regained PLUS some at least 3 or 4 times, most of those times i did get down to my goal weight. But i didnt treat it as a lifestyle change. It was a diet until i didnt have to diet anymore. Not to mention everyone, including them, is overweight in my family. If its so easy to just diet and eat right we wouldnt be having this conversation. I can lose the weight. But i cant keep it off without help without permanant tools to keep me in line. This is exactly what i need and my surgeon agrees. Most people will never understand because they dont know what all comes along with it---its not easy, its different. But just as hard. Dont let people get to you guys! And only tell who you KNOW will support you--or dont tell anyone! This is your journey! Who goes on it with you is your choice!
