  1. I am on day #12 and as of this morning I am down 12.2#. Sounds about average on here. Absolutely no side effects other than a couple of episodes of feeling lightheaded when standing up quickly. It has gone A LOT better than I expected.

    regretting my sleeve

Not sure what kind of preparation and evaluation you received before surgery but I would strongly recommend finding someone with experience in eating disorders that you are comfortable with to talk to. Many people use food (as well as drugs/alcohol) to treat depression and childhood trauma is a big causative factor especially in someone your age. It is entirely possible to stretch the sleeve out so you can eat what and how much you want to. I know people who have done this. However, it is vitally important that you follow your doctor's recommendations until you are fully healed to avoid life threatening complications. I am hoping that by then you will be feeling more accepting of the limitations. And this whole concept of "cheat days" only cheats yourself. There is a reasonable portion of anything that you can enjoy eventually. You ARE losing weight naturally, the sleeve is just a tool to help you. Please be gentle with yourself and take it one day at a time. Hugs!!
  3. It sounds like you are doing fabulous. I just turned 60 in February and am getting sleeved this Wednesday. Wondering if you were given anti nausea medication. I was prescribed a medication called EMEND that I take 2 hours prior to surgery and is supposed to help. It cost over $200 for 1 dose (only $17 after---thank God for good insurance) but the clinic nurses say it really works. I dread the thought of nausea and/or vomiting after surgery. I am not a fan of pain meds either but I do have a big jug of Tylenol with Codeine if needed. Glad it is going well for you. Just what I needed to read this morning
  4. Just finishing day #10 of the preop diet and surprisingly it has been fairly easy. I start the day with 20 ounces water then I drink about 40 oz coffee with Spenda and fat free half and half. I use a Yeti tumbler so easy to keep track. Then I drink one shake (Premier Protein). I then have about 32 ounces water over the next few hours. I have a second shake and some dill pickles (allowed per my bariatric center at Baylor Scott & White) about 4 then about 1/2 a bottle of PowerAde Zero. I eat my allowed meal (3 ounces protein) with 1-2 cups vegetables about 7. For dessert, a couple of sugar free popsicles and/or jello. Now sitting here enjoying some Crystal Light. I sometimes heat up a chocolate shake to drink before bed. I am shocked that I really haven't felt extremely hungry to this point and have lost almost 12 pounds. Good luck to you!!
  5. I am preop and scheduled for surgery the same day as you. I am not worried at all and am looking forward to it. I already feel so much better after 9 days on the preop diet that I know I am doing the right thing. Hardest thing post op for me will be the complete avoidance of alcohol since we are pretty "social" and enjoy hanging with friends listening to live music and watching football. I can have just as good of a time drinking water. I try to visualize myself at this time next year feeling SO MUCH BETTER and that helps a lot. Just try to focus on the positive aspects of the surgery and keep your eye on the prize.

Age 60 is the new 40?

Loved city life in Dallas when I was younger but I just get fed up with the traffic and crowds now. We are close enough to Austin that we can go hear bands and stuff but I can not imagine life there on a daily basis. My best friend has lived there 24 years and she likes it. I don't think I could live too rural either; we have access to a lot of back roads perfect for riding the Harley but there are restaurants and shopping within a mile of our house.

Well I had my appointment with the surgeon and looks like I am good to go next Wednesday. Signed all the consents and already have all my meds/vitamins. Seems a little surreal that this time next week I will be post op. Not nervous at this point but a bit excited.

Originally had an associate degree in nursing and became RN in 1980. First job was hospital pediatrics and kids are all I have ever done. 4 kids under 4 is a full time job in itself!!

I was pretty surprised that they were able to schedule my surgery so quickly after I finished the preop stuff. Would have been sooner but we had a little trip planned for my husbands' birthday and I started the preop diet as soon as we returned. Have appt. with my surgeon in the AM for pre-op visit.....I really like him since he is pretty straightforward and has lots of experience. I am a nurse practitioner so I ask some pretty detailed medical questions. For me, the preop diet has been fairly easy and as of this morning I have lost 9.8 lbs. in 7 days. I literally drink water, Crystal Light and PowerAde ZERO all day long. Most worried about giving up my Columbian Supremo coffee after surgery for decaf but hopefully it will only be for a couple of week. Hope your surgery date is set soon. Just noticed that we all have the same goal weight!!

I grew up in Dallas and Euless and went to college at UT Arlington. Our first house was in Grand Prairie, second one in Aledo/Willow Park. Many friends in DFW but it is WAY too crowded for me.

Age 60 is the new 40?

I finally found the perfect spot on here!! I turned 60 a couple of months ago and am having VSG on May 2. I have been thinking about it for about a year and saw the surgeon for the first time in December. I am currently day 8 on the preop diet and am actually amazed that it is going so well and I am not struggling with it at all. Developed serious weight issues about the time I turned 50 and lost 40 pounds on my own doing Atkins. Then I quit smoking after 35 years and have gained 100 lbs. since 2009. Have been unable to work since 2016 due to severe asthma and back pain and (worst) unable to ride the motorcycle with my husband in over 2 years. I want my life back!! I am so glad to find some peeps in my age bracket!! We got this!!
  15. Just finishing day 5 of my 14 day preop diet and am very glad that it is going good. Having 3 Premier Protein shakes per day and 1 meal of 3 oz. protein and 1 cup of vegetables. I can also have dill and sugar free sweet pickles as well as the usual Crystal Light, PowerAde Zero, sugar free popsicles/jello. and water. Up to about 20 minutes on the elliptical and 10 minutes free weights daily. Surgery is May 2!! I am really excited!!
