Yes to core strengthening; plus arm/shoulders exercises. Both will aid with post op recovery and being able to position yourself in bed after surgery. Then add cardio to aid with endurance so you don't weaken when asked to walk after surgery. I worked hard in these areas a month before surgery and thanked myself each time I wanted to move or needed to get up from the bed afterward.

I under how you feel. I am just at the beginning of this new life journey. My husband and I joined our local YMCA . I am now going 6 days a week. My exercise program is to swim laps for 1 hour then do Water aerobics for the 2nd hour 5 times a week then I do 1 hour on a bike on day 6. I take 1 rest day. When I started I was 412 lbs. it has been 7 weeks and I am now down to 370lbs. along with exercise I follow the eating plan given to me by the WLC I go to. Everyone at the gym is there for 1 reason and that is to become healthier, lose weight or maintain . I have not been in a bathing suit for years but said screw it this is for me and I don’t care what anyone else is thinking. Join the gym you will feel better I promise.

At a 27.5 loss,. my face is starting to sag (I'm 50). I'm getting botox next week but I think thinner people look younger than heavier folks. Regardless, I'm glad I had VGS.

I know how you feel. Loose skin issues were probably the biggest con for me regarding getting this surgery. I just made a decision that I was going to do this and I was finally going to be happy with my body. So when I get near goal I'll evaluate where I'm sagging, and have plastic surgery. I've spent too much of my life not being physically happy with myself, and decided to finally do something about it!

TaylorMade4One got a reaction from BostonWLKC in Sleeve or bypass, how did you choose?
Learned something new. I didn't know the sleeve can creat reflux nor the bypass could reduce or eliminate it. I feel the same way about the bypass I want to maximize my weight loss.
    Thanks for sharing!

Just wanted to say Hi All! I'm new to this app and to the Bariatric journey. I'm still in process of trying to get my sleeve. Hoping it happens this summer! I joined here in hopes of making friends and support from those that "get it" any and all advice/suggestions are more than welcome!

Good evening, I am currently waiting to hear from the surgeon’s office to see if I have been approved. I am 37 years old, 5’7” and starting weight 234.9 (BMI 36.8) currently 228.4 (BMI 35.8). I started the 90-day Aetna multi-disciplinary program in January. The surgeon is using my back as a co-morbidity (degenerative disc disease, lumbago, SI joint tenderness, severe spondylosis, annular tears, neural foraminal narrowing, facet arthropathy, muscle spasms, sciatica and chronic pain) as I am a healthy fat person. I met with my pcp and nutritionist every month, personal trainer every 2 weeks and weight loss counselor every week. My family has been so patient with myself and my pain. This is the second time I have tried to have WLS, if I am denied again I hope to be accepted with the bariatric pal MX with Dr. Illan.
