    Back to work?

I plan to be off for one week, then go back to half days for the second week, then full days the third week. I have a desk job as well, but my desk goes from sitting to standing so I am glad I have that option. I have talked to a couple people who have had the same surgery as me all who went back to work after one week and they said the only issue is your tired. But heck, I am obese right now and have two little kids who don't sleep through the night so I am used to be tired.

    Any MAY sleevers???

I am not post op yet but I know on my post op diet plan scrambled eggs are considered soft foods and are not allowed till 4 weeks.

    Any MAY sleevers???

I'm may 31. The pre op is so hard! This weekend especially. At work I can stay busy and not think about it too much but it's a holiday weekend in Canada and there's been two bbqs, one picnic and one birthday dinner. I am so grumpy and tired. It's making me rethink this whole thing.

    Flying after sleeve

I will be flying four days after sugery. My doc is not concerned. I wonder why there would be any need to wait? Its not like going up in the air is going to undo your stitches.
  6. Yes my doctor explained to me that it is really hard on our bodies to lose lots of weight (anything more than 2lbs a week) so it will often take a break and then after that break you might pick up right where you left off or you might have a big loss right away. My doc suggested only weighing myself on the 1st and the 15th of every month. That might be easier said than done though! I might have to get my hubby to hid the scale from me!! lol

    Any MAY sleevers???

I haven't had my sleeve yet but those that are struggling emotionally I think its completely normal. Both of my sisters have had it done and they said the first month is so hard because you think this is your new normal but its not. You will be able to go out to eat again and eat regular foods you just will be able to eat a lot less and you have to make smarter choices. I get jealous of my sisters because whenever we go out to eat they always have enough leftover for lunch and dinner the next day. They have learnt to really slow down and enjoy every bite. They are much more mindful when they eat. They don't eat much carbs but they still plan a carb indulgence once or twice a week.
  8. Honestly I don't get it either. To me alcohol is a lot more harmful. How many families have been torn apart because of marijuana compared to alcohol? I don't think either is good for you and consumption should be limited but I don't get why pot gets the side eye from so many people when getting drunk does not. Plus with pot at least you don't get a hangover the next day! I actually have a couple family members who are on medical marijuana for chronic pain and/or anxiety.

    Any MAY sleevers???

Sorry I meant 7lbs in two weeks. I have noticed there seems to be two groups of people in regards to weight loss after surgery. One group tends to lose really big numbers right off the bat but goes through a bunch of really long stalls later on or the other group that loses weight consistently and somewhat slower. I weigh 256lbs right now and I am hoping to lose 12-15lbs my first month.

    Any MAY sleevers???

I am really struggling too! I am on day two and I have such a fierce headache which I am assuming is from carb withdrawls, I have diarrhea (TMI, oops!) and flippin hangry! I did hear it gets easier as the days go on and eventually your body will adapt. But its so hard right now. I would love to hear from people who have gone through the pre-op liquid what their experience was like or when it got easier for them.
  11. I understand completely. I mildly indulged in carbs before my pre-op and now I feel like I am paying for it in my pre-op. I have had really bad headaches from carb withdrawl. I think its normal but do understand it will make your pre-op all the much harder.

    Any MAY sleevers???

I don't know, I think 7lbs in one weeks sounds pretty amazing! I think you really only see the big big numbers in people with a much higher bmi. My nutritionist told me to expect to lose 4 to 5% of my body weight in the first month. So that equals about 12lbs in 4 weeks.

    Regarding caffeine

My doc says I have to wait one week post - op till I can have caffeine/coffee. He said it can be too hard on your healing stomach.
  14. Hello! I am wondering if anyone else out there often feels like they are not ready? I am self-paying so I haven't had to go through appointments with nutritionist and counselors. I have done tonnes of research and I feel like I have really good understanding of what my life will look like after and where I might struggle. I have been casually looking into it for two years and finally felt this was the time. I do plan on seeing a food counselor post - op. I often have thoughts that I don't want this bad enough or don't have the right mind set yet. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and today I went out for one last lunch with my co-workers as I know I won't be able to for a long time and I got a falafel and veggie wrap (so not too unhealthy) but I was thinking like "man, I am going to miss food" , "Maybe I am making a mistake" , "maybe weighing 256lbs is not so bad". Does anyone have any advice? I feel like I need to be scared straight. I have been overweight/obese since I was 8. I don't know what its like to not be and that is kind of scary. I know deep down I am doing the right thing. I have two small kids who need me to be healthy and need me to set a good example and I am so tired of carrying this weight and it holding me back.

    Anyone NOT lose their hair?

My sister had VSG a couple years ago and never experienced hair loss but she was on point with eating a nutrient rich diet and a taking supplements. I lost lots of hair after having both of my babies. It was annoying but not to the point where my hair was obviously thinning. The regrowth is the annoying part. I hope that if I do lose hair when I get my VSG in a couple weeks its on the same level as that or less.

    Going back to work?

I know a couple people who have had the surgery and two of the three said they could of been back to work (all had desk jobs) in under a week. I plan on taking a full week off and then depending on how I am feeling I might work from home, return to half days or return to full days.

    Time off work

I have asked this question as well. I go for surgery on Thursday the 31st and plan on returning to work for half days the following Thursday and then back to full days the following Monday. A lot of people I talked to said with a desk job you will probably be happy for the distraction. I have a desk that I can sit or stand at so I am not worried about being stationary too long. I think everyone's recovery time is unique too; some take longer than others. I am mostly worried about the fatigue.
