  1. So my surgery was on the 4th and the night before surgery I had written an entire length of paper worth of things to bring with me. Guess how many of those things I actually used?? THREE. My chapstick, sweater, and phone charger. I didn’t even get to brush my teeth (yes I know, gross) because I was either asleep, or walking and then when I was done walking I was right back to sleep. I had a book with me and a couple times I started reading and the words started to blurr together. Before I knew it I was waking up to people coming in to check my vitals. Needless to say, don’t pack so much stuff to take with you. All it did was make more things for my husband to take to the car 😂😂. There may be a few people that will get bored and not sleep as much but even if you are those type of people I suggest you do sleep. I hear it helps with the healing process. Best of luck to all of you who are still waiting to have surgery!
  2. I didn’t smell when I got home from surgery at all... also I didn’t have to give myself blood thinning shots when I got home.
  3. They gave me heparin. The first nigh was the worst! I was up every 2 hours peeing because I was hooked to an IV bag. That part sucked because I was getting up and down constantly and my stomach was getting sore.
  4. Screwballski, I haven’t even bought my multivitamins yet. I only take 6 pills in the morning and 5 at night, that’s why I’m surprised that I’m getting full so fast. And as for the pain, it feels different than the gas pain. I almost went to say it feels like someone is pulling on the stapled part of my intestines but I’m not sure if that is a good explanation for the feeling. I want to wait a couple before I go to the hospital or call the surgeon. Maybe it will go away on its own. If it doesn’t, I’ll definitely be going to hospital and calling the surgeon. Thank you for the advice, it’s nice to hear from people that have already been through what I’m currently going through.
  5. Screwballski, thank you for asking. I am actually feeling much better now that some time has passed. I’m not filled with so much gas anymore, I can take deeper breaths without pain, I can yawn without pain and most times I can get up without help. Strange thing though, I am still having this horrible pain in my lower left side ( just above the area where women usually get menstrual cramps) when I move, bend, stand too straight and all those sorts of things. There’s no incision there or anything but it woke me out of a dead sleep and had me almost crying this morning. I have not a clue as to what it could be. Other than that my incisions look great and everything else is well too. I can’t lay on my sides yet though, that’s a bummer since I usually sleep on my sides lol. Also, I have not thrown up or anything either. I do feel like In the morning and night it is hard to get all my pills in because I get so full taking them. That’s about it.
  6. Thank you for the kind words. I am on my way home now and am not in nearly as much pain. The pain that I thought was from all the cutting and stuff from surgery was actually gas pains! That pain ain’t no joke so for those of you who don’t think walking is that serious, IT IS. I walked about 20-25 laps my whole 3 day stay and I was still having a hard time passing the gas and the nurse even told me that it takes a couple days before you actually start to pass gas from the back side. All in all, even with the horrible pain I was having the day before, this experience was most definitely worth it. I hope whoever has surgery within the weeks/months to come has great results and a speedy recovery.

    Surgery today!!!

Surgery is in less than 4 hours and I’m having so much anxiety! Is this normal?? Anyone else have the same thing? What did you do to help calm down?

    Surgery today!!!

It’s my second day out of surgery! I’m still in pain, but it has definitely gotten better. I’m no longer on an IV, I’m on full liquids, and I can walk by myself now. I didn’t get a pain pump though. I was a little upset about that lol. They had me on liquid hydrocodone at first but it was making me nauseous so the switched me to diluted (sorry if my spelling is off) and that has helped much better. I still have pressure in The area of my surgery and I still feel a little bloated but I’m working on that with lots of walking and ice to help the swelling. Other than that I will be headed home tonight! So glad I did this but I forgot take before photos! I will do that now. HW:239 SW:228 CW:228
  9. I’m not trying to scare anyone, but I am I so much pain. Had my surgery yesterday and I was ok when I woke up but today is so much worse. I feel so bloated, I’m not passing gas but I am belching and my mouth was like the Sahara desert. I was drinking so much water to keep my mouth moist that I was making myself full and miserable. I hope the next few days are better.
  10. What is the dine out card for? I’ve never heard of it. My testing was only 3 hours and I didn’t get anything to bring home other than bruises from getting poked lol. Did they draw blood out of the artery in your wrist too? I just had my last pre-op appointment today and my next step is my surgery next Tuesday 😊
  11. It’s almost surgery day (yay 😃) and I still don’t have any vitamins nor have I been talked to about which kind of vitamins to buy (😧). I’ve done my research and know that I have to have a multivitamin, which I chose the Bariatric Advantage Multi Chewy Bites, but other than that I don’t know what else to get just for protective measures. I prefer high quality vitamins because I’m going to be taking these for the rest of my life and don’t want them to be mostly fillers, you know? Anybody else that picky, or is it just me??? More specifically, I’m looking for vitamins to boost hair growth so it’s not so bad when it starts falling out. The multivitamin has biotin in it but after the horror stories I have read on here, that alone doesn’t seem to be working. Like, I know I can’t prevent it from falling out but I want to lessen the amount that falls out. My hair is already really thin and if I lose it, I will be bald. Not that being bald is a problem but the snowy season would be more unbearable than it is already. Is there any other vitamins I should take?? I’m kind of upset that none of the information I was given about the surgery included information on the supplements to take afterward. Also, In my surgery letter it states that a dietitian will contact me before my liquid diet starts and here I am 5 days into my liquid diet and still no call. I’ve called them several times and still no call.
  12. I would take your age into consideration as well as your medical history and your family’s history.
  13. Congrats! I hope all goes well.
  14. On Sep 4 ‘18 I am having my RYGB surgery. During the whole 6 month diet I had no worries about what would happen to my body after surgery but the closer my date gets the more I’m becoming concerned. I am terrified of having loose skin after surgery. I know that exercise helps but once that skin has been stretched out so much there’s a point of no return right?? Also, I’ve heard a lot of people get sick after surgery. As in they are throwing up after every meal they eat. A friend of mine threw up all the time for months after her GB. I sort of have a phobia about throwing up, and I know that this doesn’t happen to everyone, but how many of you experienced this? If there’s any advice from those of you who have already gone through this, I am all ears. Thank you in advance!
  15. I’ll post a complaint of my pain when I wake up from surgery so you know what to expect 😂😂
  16. The only diets that my surgeon required is that I do a 6 month medically supervised diet, which I’ve done, and my two week liquid diet. I’m thinking about making it three weeks though because I knew that I would no longer be able to eat a lot of the things I liked so I had a good bye celebration with my favorite foods... I regret it now lol.
  17. You are absolutely right. I’m just stressing myself out over wondering how my body will be after surgery but, like you said, I won’t know until after I have the surgery. I’m not so much worried about complications during surgery, at least for now. My health is optimal other than my weight, so I’m sure things will go smoothly. Thank you for your comment, it really helped me to not worry over things that I most likely wont encounter. If I do, I’ll just have to deal with it when the time comes 😊.
  18. Mine is the day before yours. Yours is on the 5th right? Along with about 3 or 4 other people lol.
  19. September 4 for me 😊 I was supposed to be in August but I decided to quit smoking too late and it ended up getting pushed to September. But I haven’t had a cigarette in a month! It’s so funny that I have been trying to quit for 2 years but when I’m told that I have to quit so that I can lose weight, I had no problem doing it.
  20. I have also heard that if you blend peanut butter in the shakes it makes them taste better and helps you stay full longer. Has anyone tried this?
  21. Hello, I’m 18 days to starting my 2 week pre-op diet and I’m sort of scared. I’ve been on a liquid diet before but I wasn’t as restricted nor did I pay attention to the nutrition labels on the shakes I was drinking (turns out they were just empty calories with more sugar than anything else). This time I’m only allowed 3-4 shakes that have 20g protein and less than 5g of sugar, and water. Last time, I was nauseas almost every day and always had a headache. Also I found it very hard to stick with it when I have to cook real food for my family. Anyone else have any of the same issues? If anyone could suggest better ways to prep for the 2 weeks of hunger hell I will be enduring, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advanced 😊

    The first poo

I’m so glad I’m reading this now! Surgery is on September 4 and I don’t want to be unprepared. If I hadn’t hopped on here I’d probably be crying on the toilet too 😂
