  1. No I’d say it’s just been getting progressively worse for about six months. I actually puked in the Gastrologist office last week when she was talking to me! but I did make it up to the garbage can in time. 🤦‍♀️
  2. Wow! That’s crazy! I had a barium swallow done last week but I don’t know the results of it. Yesterday I had am EDG. They did these because I’m nauseous all the time and they want to look at my stomach. The doctor mentioned yesterday that I might need a the one where they put that small thing through your nose and it goes down into your stomach and you have to drink when they get it down there to see if how you swallow is OK. That test was just awful! I think I’d rather have a colonoscopy🙃

    Pureed diet need new ideas

I totally forgot about the ricotta back! I was so good. It’s like lasagna but with out the noodles! https://bariatricbits.com/single-serve-baked-ricotta/ Here’s a recipe for a single serving. Just Goggle Ricotta Bake. Or as we say at my house GTS (Google the s!:7)

    Pureed diet need new ideas

I made a roast in the crockpot for my family. I took a little bit a roast a little bit of potatoes and a little bit of carrots and blended it all up and it was pretty darn good! Cream soups are OK you can just pick out the two pieces of chicken or the three mushrooms that are in the can😹🤦‍♀️ There’s always mashed potatoes😋 with gravy! I got unflavored protein powder and added it to a lot of things.
  5. Sorry you’re having such a rough time. Your body has gone through a tremendous shock. It is still healing & trying to figure out what to do. I remember crying at 3 or 4 weeks out thinking “what have I done?” I was so terribly weak. Try a different brand of protein drink. Add the unflavored powder to everything. As you are able to add more foods in you probably will start to feel better. Check to see if your insurance plan has a dietitian you can speak with. Cigna provided one for me. We talked weekly the 1st 2 months & them monthly till about 8 months out. She was really helpful.
  6. I know this will not make you feel any better I am almost 4 years postop Roux n y and I buy three bottles meclizine at a time on Amazon. Some days I have to take anywhere from 2 to 8 a day. I want to a gastrologist a couple weeks ago because after this like the time I don’t trust my surgeon anymore. I had a barium swallow test earlier this week and on Wednesday I’m having an EKG. I actually threw up in the garbage can while I was talking to the new Gastrologist! Sometimes it’s just something we have to live with because of what we have done to our bodies even though I do not regret this decision one bit!

    Not doing good

Oh Gigi, I’m so sorry about your mom. That is a really hard thing to go through. Sounds like you are in stage 4 of grief. Google the stages of grief. Give yourself some extra care & seek help. Maybe your primary care doc can give you something to help you deal with everything. Medications don’t make our problems go away, they just help us to deal with them better.
  8. Hi & welcome. I sorta had a Hiatal hernia repair when I had my bypass 4 years ago. I had a fundolipacation 15 years ago to repair the hernia. That lasted about 8 years & is slowly failed. I had the bypass to repair all of that. I have lost 65-70lbs depending on the day😸 Good luck with your surgery.

    Kept it Quiet?

I told my family (brother & sister) because I knew they wouldn’t say anything rude to me - that’s just how we are. I told a few friends & if one of them asked about my weight loss I told them. But I told my husband & daughters that under any circumstances while I’m still alive are they to tell his dad & brother! His family has always made us feel bad about the size of all of us & I just don’t want them knowing. We saw his dad a couple weeks ago when my oldest was visiting. His girlfriend hasn’t seen me in a while. She kept calling me skinny mini & going on & on about how much weight I have lost. When she asked how I did it I just said by changing my eating habits & eating smaller portions. (That’s not a lie) I felt bad that she said anything because my older daughter is a big girl. She would love to have surgery but can’t afford it right now. I could tell that it was upsetting to her😿

Want to be a part of this site

All of the above. I read all of your posts. But sometimes I don’t have any/or I can’t remember what it was like 4 months out of surgery so I don’t say anything.
  11. Sounds a lot like me. I lost 60 after the surgery. Never got down to my goal, just 10 pounds away. They I started to eat crap, I quickly put on 30. Last February my friend talked me into doing the Fast Metabolism Diet by Haily Pomroy, your gonna have to Google it. You eat really clean it’s just what you eat in 3 different phases. We followed it for a couple months & then just continued to eat clean. In August I hit my goal weight!! I have been hanging out 130-135 since then. Still try to eat clean. We are going on a cruise in September & I am super nervous about that!
  12. Before my RNY when food would get stuck I would take just a couple sips of Coke and it would go down. It got so bad that when we ate out I would just order a Coke. Just in case. Even though I’m not a soda drinker. I would buy the little bottles and keep it in the refrigerator just in case I needed it.

    Negative comments from family members

I’m sorry your family is being so negative. You are trying your best! Sometimes we all just need a kickstart so tell them to shut their pie hole! I hope you seek the help of a professional who can help you deal with all the things your family makes you feel. You are doing it for yourself with or without them! Maybe you should distance yourself from them (at least for a time) if that is at all possible. Then go prove them wrong!!!!

What do you do when you get sick?

I am almost 4 years out. I still get nauseous about 5 times a week. I buy Meclizine by the bottle on Amazon. When the nausea is really bad I just take a couple of sips of ginger ale. I buy the 6 pack of small bottles so we can keep the rest for the next time. This is really weird but I have also found the eating a spoonful of raw oatmeal settles my stomach. There have been a few time that I have actually thrown up but that was because I ate something I shouldn’t have.

    Am I eating too much?

Did your surgeon give an amount of food to eat? Mine & my daughter’s surgeon/plan/team (we each had different doctors) told us to not eat more then 3 oz. I am over 3 years out & I still weight my food at home. When we go out I cut my meat in 1/2 & have about 2 bites of veggies. I know that’s about 3oz. I know from doing my own cooking that adding ham, cheese & tomato to 1 egg is more then 3 oz. Stick with your plan & doctors instructions! Don’t try to eat more just because you can.

    Smoothie king

I have never been to a Smoothie King but my 1st question would be do they have any protein in them? The 1st 8-10 months you need to really focus on protein & make sure you get in what you are supposed to. Smoothies can really fill up your stomach so be careful that you aren’t going over 3oz if you are treating it like a meal. I would stick to a small homemade smoothie with protein powder added.

    Gastric bypass and exhaustion

Those 1st couple of months can be rough! Your body is going through a MAJOR change! You should be focusing on protein & hydration. Sounds like you are achieving that. As you add more food consistency and are able to exercise more your energy will return. I could not get over how few calories I was consuming those first few weeks! Hang in there it will be worth it!

    Weight gain

I put back on 1/2 of the weight I had lost after just a couple of years. Last January my BFF talked me into doing the Fast Metabolism Diet with her. After 2 months I lost 1/2 of that weight & after 6 months I had hit my goal weight (I never had done that). I have been holding that weight for the past 6 months. I totally changed my eating habits by not only following the Fast Metabolism plan but because of it I cut out all dairy which is a huge thing for me today! My body feels so much better in so many ways! You gotta get the book by Haylie Pomroy!

    Successful post op gastric bypass

I was 53 when I had mine. My daughter was 22. Neither of us have any regrates! I have had a lot of surgeries for various things - I wasn't nervous at all about the surgery. My daughter has had 5 surgeries (4 for the same thing) - she wasn't nervous at all either. I'm not sure if the gas pain that people talk about is gas in their abdomen as general pain or the gas/discomfort that is felt in the left shoulder after any abdominal surgery. I have always had horrendous pain in my left shoulder after ANY abdominal surgery. It lasts for 2-3 weeks (but that's just me - because of scoliosis by torso is unique - I had my scoliosis corrected when I was 48 - DON'T WAIT THAT LONG!). My daughter had no troubles at all even though she also has scoliosis (she had hers corrected when she was 15 & has had 3 other surgeries because of the 1st one). But I can tell you our bodies feel so much better since getting all of the weight off because of weight loss surgery! I have lost over 70 (I am very happy with this weight & I feel great!). My daughter has lost over 150 & she is more active than she ever was before! Stick to your docs plan and take your vitamins! Just wear home whatever you wore to the hospital. No need to take an extra set of clothes. Your toothbrush, toothpaste, Biotin mouthwash is a great idea (I like the Walmart brand), phone charger & ChapStick & PJ's (so you don't have to wear the hospital gown once you start moving around). Good vibes & happy thoughts as you drift off to sleep in a few days! I always sing "I Wanna be Sedated" by the Ramones as I am wheeled to the OR.
  23. For me it’s forever 😑 I had a RNY to correct a failed (12 years old) surgery to fix my hiatal hernia. Before RNY my esophagus was L-shaped and half of Diaphragm was above where it. Lately I have also been having to take Pepcid to control the reflux. I need to find a new bariatric Doctor Who can monitor me. Because of the reason that I had the bypass my surgeon was not a bariatric doctor he actually told me to get all of my information about the surgery and what needs to be done after in my lifestyle changes from the Internet I also need to find a Gastrologist because pills are getting hot when I swallow them just like they did before the bypass. I think my esophagus needs to be stretched again. I’m very sad about all of this because I was told that by having the bypass it would fix all of my problems permanently. Losing 70 pounds was a big plus out of it!

    Got my surgery date!

Ephemeral said everything I wanted to say! It is very exciting to get your surgery date. Yes!!!! Keep your eye on the main prize, a better life for yourself. I’m glad you are working through your relationship with food. Knowing how you got to where you are & knowing what NOT to do are very, very important!

    Everything

Wow! Your everything sure has a lot of stuff in it! JK those are all legitimate questions & things we all worry about pre-op. Some things to take into consideration is your starting weight & your age. The more you have to loose, the more excess skin you will have. If you are older, it might be harder for you to tone things up. The main thing is finding an exercise thing you can stick with! For me that has been Pilates. But even after doing Pilates 369 times I still have bat wings. I have always had a “poofy” stomach no matter how much I weigh, even at 100 pounds in my early 20’s. I would love to have a tummy tuck, but someone would have to die for that to happen so I will go without one. My daughter has that implant thing in her arm. She had a bypass just over 3 years ago (when she was 22) & has lost over 150. She has done great. I had a bypass to correct a failed surgery I had 12 years prior to control GERD that had failed. Because of this I have to take a Previcid for the rest of my life. As long as I don’t over eat (more then 3oz) & I don’t have spicy food the GERD stays under control. Today we ate lunch at a new place. But my husband & I both got heartburn! So we won’t be eating there again!
