  1. I’m 2 years out and had hit my happy weight but I also jumped on the struggle bus. I live in NYC and with it being the original epicenter the lockdown took a toll. I ordered tons of groceries for the long haul and started eating things that I would never have eaten before all this. It took awhile but I felt my weight slowly start creeping up. I say felt because I was mortified at stepping on a scale. However I couldn’t continue to move in the wrong direction with all the work I had put in. I finally weighed myself and found that there were 9 pounds more of me than the last time I weighed. That was it, that snapped me out of it. I took out my superhero cape and ordered 10 boxes of Protein Shakes from costco. I went right back to my pre-op diet. I’ve lost that 9 pounds and feel better already. Even though the restrictions are lifting here, it seems that I will be working from home indefinitely, so Protein shakes will be apart of my routine for 1-2 meals from now on.

  2. I had my surgery with Dr. Bessler in 2018. While he is chilled and straightforward as the other poster mentioned, he is extremely knowledgeable and responsive. It was a great experience from beginning to end. Everything from pre-op to post- op went without a single complication. I had no trouble with the staff, they even kept me calm during the insurance waiting game. I highly recommend him. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

  3. It started in the hospital. I got up to go to the bathroom and didn’t want to get back in the bed (I was bored) so I did a lap around the ward. I still didn’t want to get back in the bed. So I did another lap. 4 laps later I finally got tired and went back to my room. I did that until I was discharged, so I guess by the time I got home I had a tolerance for it.

  4. Hi there. I just had my surgery Friday. And all went well. I had no recollection of the breathing tube, just a very sexy hoarse voice for a few hours after—but it really wasn’t a problem. I’ve had no gas pain and my pain overall wasn’t more than I would feel with menstrual camps (sorry fellas).

I did ask my doctor prior to my surgery about gas and he said they do everything that they can to get most of it out. I have to believe he did because I really am not feeling anything. You will be fine. Walk around the ward when they clear you to do so—it really helps. Take care. You’ve got this!

  5. I'm writing this from my hospital bed (surgery was Friday) and I'm not thinking about food anymore. It’s like that craving has been removed. Maybe it’s still very new for me—excitement maybe, adrenaline? I don’t know, I have no interest not even in my beloved coffee. This could all change on a dime, but right now I’m just going to enjoy the ride🙂

cammarays - what type of insurance do you have? I'm so nervous mine won't approve me because I'm on the lower BMI scale. Maybe it doesn't matter since I still am considered obese and I have the blood pressure issue.

Sorry, I'm just seeing this. I have HealthFirst (I'm in NY). And with your co-morbidity under most insurance, you qualify with a BMI at 35 and over. Without your comorbidity, you would need to be at a BMI of 40 and over. Take a look at this link it was so helpful. It has almost every insurance out there and their requirements. https://www.obesitycoverage.com/insurance-and-costs/am-i-covered/check-my-insurance

I am in the beginning of my journey and obviously changing eating habits. What are some of your favorite recipes or websites to find bariatric friendly recipes. Thanks in advance.

I’m in the final stages of the pre-op diet so even looking at this site shakes me to the core. Lol. I can’t wait to try some of these once I move to solid food! Enjoy:

  8. I just had surgery a few hours ago with krekely and OMG choose him! I feel amazing! I don’t have pain I don’t have gas I’m not sore.. I’m so happy that I can lay here in recovery and feel well enough that I can actually appreciate this blessing and opportunity I just got versus being miserable, in pain and regretting it. I’m not religious but I’ll have to say god bless his hands and skills. I’m sure even if you get bessler you’ll have a good experience being that you’re in a center of excellence for your procedure with undeniably some of the best doctors. You also get a nurse right at your bedside for anything you need, they literally don’t move from there. I’m so overjoyed that I can go on and on.
