  1. Thanks for asking! I am doing a little bit better. The pantoprazole is controlling the acid for the most part. I still wake up with it and get it intermittently, however it is not the constant burn I was experiencing.
  2. Hello all. I am about 19 days out from surgery and since last night I have had constant heartburn. The back of my throat is burning. I popped two tums but nada. I am also on Pepcid 20 mg twice a day just as a post-op regiment. I am planning on giving one more day before calling the surgeon. What I would like to know is others’ experiences: did anyone have GERD symptoms this early? If you did was this just a temporary adjustment from the surgery or is this a forever issue for you?

    3 days post op

I was the opposite of you. I felt like I had to pee but just couldn’t. This went on for two days. It was apparently called retention from the general anesthesia. Luckily I started to pee, though I had to “force” myself, and they released me from the hospital. It resolved itself completely within 4 days. It quite common.

How often do you weigh yourself?

Initially after surgery, every day. But then I hit my 3 week stall/slow down and got depressed and have committed to only doing it once a week, on a Friday.
  5. Love Roxane Gay. Thank you for posting this.

    Back at Work!

Like you I went back quickly. I was sleeved on 4/27 and was back to work on 5/8. !0 days of rest. My surgeon had no issue with it. I work at a desk and was more at risk of over doing it at home. I fidget, can't sit on my butt for long before I need to scrub a tub or something. I get tired, yes, but all and all its been pretty easy.

    Timeline- New here

Welcome, I am pretty new here myself. It took me 6 months due to insurance rules. I had to complete 6 months of a nutritionist supervised diet. So I started in November and I was sleeved at the end of April.
  8. I understand the chewing thing--that was exactly what I kept telling my husband "I just want to chew something!!!" I actually chewed some stuff and spit it out - kinda helped. I am still on two protein shakes a day plus 3 oz of soft protein. Every time I have to drink another shake at this point I get nauseous just looking at it. And I have until June 4 until I am cleared for more solids -- yuck!

    -45lbs at 3 mo post-op

Congrats on your progress. I made this the other night (sans butter) and it was quite tasty --well at least the two micro bites I could eat! https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/broiled-cod

    5 weeks post op

Late April here, exactly 3 weeks today. Down 23 pounds since surgery - down 97 from my highest. Not feeling that great, having some nausea and heartburn issues, along with some fatigue. All expected this early out but hoping for some energy soon!
  11. Probably! Called the dr. Office and they are taking me off the Pepcid and starting me on pantoprazole. If that doesn’t work nexium.
  12. Only in the hospital. They gave them in my arm.
  13. This was one of my hugest fears, and since I liked the way I look big, as did my husband it made the fear worse. Plenty of good men like a big women but who has a loose skin fetish? At the end of the day I have two small kids that need their mommy, so I had to throw my aesthetic concerns out. My advice, think about why you are having surgery. If it is for merely aesthetics, maybe it is not the best choice for you. If it is for your health and longevity then you have your answer. All best.

    Highest weight

I am 5’8” and my goal is 175. My goal is specifically this because I heard everywhere that after you reach goal you gain back 20 and that is where you settle. I heard this on various forums and from a few people that have had surgery. So ultimately I see myself maintaining 190-195 for life. That is my hope.

    I confess....2018

I confess... -that I shoved a potato chip in my mouth Saturday, chewed it and spit it out. -I obsessively weigh myself every day.

    Advice needed

I was "lucky" that they were repairing a hiatal hernia at the same time as my sleeve so I just told everyone I was getting hernia surgery--hey, it wasn't a lie!

    Same weight as pre-op

I actually came home from the hospital 6 pounds heavier from the fluid and swelling. I am now 15 days out and down 20 pounds from my surgery weight— 26 if you want to count the water. I also kept my fluids and protein shakes down, no problems. It will start working soon, just give your body a week or so to get over the shock.

    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

Man I wished food smelled awful! It all smells like heaven and I am stuck at the gates! I was sleeved on April 27th - I had two days of a clear liquid diet prior to surgery then clear liquids two days after, and protein shakes and clear liquid for two weeks, today is my first day of soft protein. I can have three ounces a day. So after 16 days of nothing solid I am eating a yogurt and it is divine! Lost 19 pounds since surgery, I am pretty pleased at that--sometimes I feel like I should of lost more--compensation for pain and suffering.
  19. Today I am celebrating two weeks since my surgery and the go ahead to eat 3 oz of soft protein as one of my meals. Oh joy of joys! I am also giddy to eat an actually egg!

How long did your incision glue last?

I think it depends on the surgeon and the patient--I have 7 holes. 5 which are super tiny with pin pricks and 2 larger ones--about 2" each by my belly button.

    C-section pain vs Sleeve pain?

c-section was WAY tougher. I am 12 days out and by 4-5 days I was down to a dull ache. I can sneeze and cough without pain--unlike my c-section where it hurt for a good month. Don't be nervous!

    Sex?

My doctor said two weeks...we lasted one.

How long did your incision glue last?

I am 10 days post op and I still have all mine, but they are all starting to peel. I read that it takes 5-10 days for it to come off. Can't wait--itchy!!!
  24. Ugh, I am right there with you. My surgery is April 27, and I will need to start the pre-op diet very soon. Still thinking of my last meal...like I am on death row. May have to have several! XD I went to a support group and tried to listen to all the positive stories to get me enthusiastic, but nah. Hopefully the progress I make will make it seem worth it. *Big hugs*
