  1. They should be scheduling a follow-up visit after your surgery. Mine was at 2 weeks post-op. We also had a nutrition seminar before surgery on eating for the first 5 weeks then, another seminar at 5 weeks about how to eat afterwards. Do you have a nutritionist you can turn to?
  2. I didn't tell most of my family because I didn't need opinions from the peanut gallery--I knew most would not be helpful and would be against it. And they have reason to be: people do gain the weight back. I know several people (friends, colleagues, family members) who have gained back considerable amounts of weight after WLS, far more than I know people that have been long term successful. And yes, and there are the possible side effects. I am living with one of them right now. I won't BS you, it is a gamble. I knew that going in. At the end of the day, you take your shot, for good or for ill. Maybe you got what it takes to be one of the lucky success stories, maybe not. Sometimes discipline and following the program to the letter does not get you the results you want--sometimes your body is just an a**hole and doesn't care how hard you are trying. However as Wayne Gretzky said, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take." This is your body, your future, and only your decision. As long as you go into this with eyes wide open, you'll do fine.

Having trouble believing my stomach is gone

LOL! I thought I was the only one getting souvenir pictures! Glad to know I am not the only one with an odd surgeon.
  4. I bought smaller sized clothing for the summer, size 14. But they fit me now surprisingly. Not because I think have shrunk that much, just because clothing sizes are much different than 10 years ago. Vanity sizing has got me all confused!

    PAIN MANAGEMENT

My hospital was brutal. I heard you got the good stuff in the hospital---nope! In recovery, sure I was doped up good. But when I got to my room it was a Tylenol IV drip. By the evening I was begging the nurses for something and they finally got me a shot of morphine so I could sleep for two hours. After that I just roamed the halls because I couldn't sleep from the pain. The next day they had me swallowing Tylenol pills (ouch!). Luckily the pain really only lasts a few days.
  6. I work a pretty cushy desk job and I took 11 days (including the weekends so all and all just 7 sick days). I was perfectly fine. Good luck.

    I'm stuck

You thought you would lose 60 pounds in a month? They took out a part of your stomach, they didn't amputate a leg, deary! I am a lot like you in that I thought because I started very heavy I would lose 40 pounds in a month, no problem. I am 7 weeks and I am stuck at 39.4. It is frustrating to be sure but you just gotta keep your head up and keep going! You got this!

    Fear of death?

Ditto. I wrote letters to my children and instructions for my husband on how to pay the mortgage, taxes, cells, and whatnot. Wait till they make you sign the proxy stuff--basically giving someone the power to pull the plug. It really is normal to feel this way. We all freak out---and guess what? We are all still here. You'll do fine.

    April Sleevers check in!

Honey, I sure ain't living a dream. I got chronic heartburn and eating is still pretty uncomfortable--drinking too. Some days I think I am over the hump, and other days I am worse then the day before. Sometimes you just need to smile through it cuz there is no going back.

    Some questions regarding GERD...

    1) Did you suffer from GERD before surgery? I had very mild gastritis and a small hiatal hernia (repaired during sleeve) which cause mild heartburn from time to time--maybe twice a month. 2) If you do now, how often a week? And how would you rate it from 1-10 (10 being the worst) Yes, everyday, 4-7 depending on the day. 3) What do you do to treat it, and does it help alleviate the symptoms completely? pantoprazole 20 mg twice a day. 40 mg of Omeprazole at bed time. No, my symptoms are never fully gone. 4) How far out are you from post-op? 7 weeks.

    Pity Party - WAAAAAAAH!

Oh no! That sounds like torture! You earned your party for sure. I hope the acid at least starts to resolve itself on its on and you avoid a bypass.

    emotions all over the place

I was in the same boat--kinda. My emotions were not all over the place but I was pretty apathetic. Like you I had lost weight over and over again only to put it back on. I was daunted by the shear amount I had to lose JUST to be overweight. But I figured I owed my children and husband one more try, an earnest, all out try. In terms of encouragement, my all time record for weight loss was 112 pounds. Today I broke that record --I have officially lost 113 pounds. So like everyone says, its a tool, blah blah, blah, but it is a tool that has the capacity to really work. Good luck.

    April sleevers

I was sleeved on 4/27. Friday is my 7 week anniversary. As of today I have lost 39 pounds since surgery. It would be amazing if I reached an even 40 by friday, but I won't hold my breath!

    Ughhhhhh!

I get the molded cups from cacique, they are the only thing that seems to work for me. Only down side is they are $50 a pop.
  16. Aw, so glad he has been there for you! I always feel so bad when folks post about rotten spouses. This is hard enough as it is with someone in your corner. I was blessed with a supportive spouse too. He has been unbelievable, not only with me but with our two young kids. He is even trying new foods with me which he would have never touched before like zucchini noodles and riced cauliflower. I could have never done this without him.
  17. Everyone is different, but even none at all would be normal. You come home bigger unfortunately from the fluid and gas. I went in 303 and came out 309. By the end of the first week I had dropped the 6 I gained plus, 11.8 more.

    Decisions , decisions, decisions

Sorry you are in this unlucky club too, sigh... I just hope I don't end up with a revision.

    Decisions , decisions, decisions

I chose a sleeve because I didn’t want my intestines messed with, or to have malabsorption issues. Sleeve was less invasive. As far as how much weight you have to lose, you can lose just as much with a sleeve. A woman I worked with went from 410 to 170 with a sleeve in less than 18 months. But if you have any issues with heart burn, beware. Sleeves are bad news for people with GERD. I had only mild and occasional heartburn before and I am suffering big time now.

    Fresh Cod and Salmon

I have had both. Cod went down great. Salmon made me sick. Sat like a rock in my throat.

    Kindness is a Movment

Can I just say, you haven’t been by obesityhelp.com forums. Those are snarky and negative. This forum is the only one I have been to where people are pleasant and supportive. I don’t know your experience here, I don’t read every topic, but it is important not to misinterpret people’s intentions. Like stated above, tough love is still love.
