    Satisfying the BEAST

Even though the meals are high in protein, do they have too many carbs? That could cause an insulin spike that could lead to hunger.

Are you still avoiding liquids during/after meals?

Mountain bread 2 weeks post op

When does your nutritionist allow any form of bread back into your diet? Most of us have very limited refined carbs for a long time.

Protein - How much is too much?

    Wouldn't stretching make it worse?

Protein - How much is too much?

OK, that's a little scary since I am quite hyperextended in many joints to begin with.

Protein - How much is too much?

    Thanks, good to know.

    Any idea why?

Since liquids go right through your stomach, I'd up my drinking well before the workout. That way the water is already available to your system. You weren't specific about what your workout entails. Cardio or weight-training? If it's weight-training, make sure you're not holding your breath while you exert yourself. That might be putting extra pressure on your stomach, causing reflux and/or nausea.

Protein - How much is too much?

I haven't hit 1000 yet, but I'm getting close. I still average 600-800. I'm doing better since I gave up on solids. It was really holding me back to eat an ounce of chicken and then be miserable for a couple of hours. I'm feeling so much better now. Yes, I was told that your body couldn't process more than 30g of protein at once. Unfortunately, they didn't specify how much per hour or anything specific like that.

In what way have you changed?

I'm starting to do things without thinking about the weight implications. I'll park in a spot that I wouldn't've dared to before because I might have trouble getting out of the car if the door couldn't open wide enough. Next time I buy plane tickets, I won't worry about whether I'll fit in the seat.

Anxious - Lonely - No Friends to Support My Journey

    Great advice, Ash!

    Still sick

Thanks, Ash. No, I haven't tried any of the soy "meats" yet. I'll have to check them out. I've got a stick blender, so that works really well with my soups. Much easier/safer than transferring boiling hot liquids into a blender.

    Ongoing journey before possible surgery

I'm glad you're in a good place right now. It's good to hear that you're seeing a counselor and that your health is improving. If the changes you are making in your life are moving you forward toward happiness and health, why not continue to pursue that path and see where it leads? If you don't achieve your goals, you can always address surgery at a later date. I'd be surprised if there is anyone here who wouldn't have preferred to achieve their goals without surgery. It's so FOREVER. Speaking for myself, I finally had surgery because I had given up meeting my goals any other way. Surgery is a tool. If you've got plenty of other tools in your toolbox, more power to you! I think your story is awesome and I wish you all the best, whatever decision you make.

    Cranky

Yup, this about sums it up. You can do it!

    Still sick

We're in the same boat. For now, I have given up attempting solid foods. I'm going to do a month of soups then try again. I just feel too miserable whenever I try any solids except for fish. Can you handle ground meats? Over the weekend I made a white bean chili with ground chicken and mild seasonings that I tolerated well.

    Non Scale Victories

At a restaurant on Saturday, I got seated next to a column. I could slide into my seat without even thinking about it. YEAH!

    I miss straws!

The reusable straws are just so hard to clean, though. I did buy the long, skinny brush to wash inside the straws, but I only clean them about once a week. Probably not sanitary enough.

    Loose skin

Some of the skin will tighten up on its own with time. Otherwise, toning the muscle underneath will help.
