Struggling to get cleared by doctor for sleeve surgery

Not trying to be argumentative, but does the doc say you are not ready for surgery because you've lost so little weight or because you're not complying with his recommended diet plan?

    Severe nauseau

Try protein drinks that are not whey/milk based. You may have developed a sensitivity to milk products. It's not uncommon. Hope you feel better soon.

    Diet help

Ask your doctor. No one on this website knows any particulars about you or your surgery.

    Cravings- pureed food

Cravings are completely normal. Now that you're starting to feel better, your body wants to "recover" from the weight you've lost. Plus, your brain wants to get back to "normal" eating. This is the hard work stage where you're retraining mind and body to your new "normal."

    Progress graph

OK, I use a "regular" computer, so YMMV - On the same page where we enter updates for our weight, there is a bar with 4 little icons on it. It shows the graph, a listing of dates/weights, a milestone tracker and something else, I think. It plots out every time you've updated your weight along the way.

    Unquenchable thirst

Try sugar-free popsicles, too. The cold may help with the swelling.

Awaiting to have Gastric Bypass Surgery

I think all hospitals have you weigh in the morning of surgery to ensure that their anesthesia calculations are correct and to document the surgical process. That weigh-in does not affect your eligibility in any way.

    Unquenchable thirst

If you can swallow normal (not-gulp) size mouthfuls of water, go ahead. The sipping is really only necessary in the very beginning because your stomach was so swollen that only small amounts of liquid could trickle through. If you swallowed too much, you'd just throw it all up. I was released to drink normally after a week. Once you drink normally, it's much easier to space out the windows for food. If you swallow too much and throw up or if it causes pain, go back to sipping. Good luck!

    Post Op Intake Questions

Congrats on your surgery. Sounds as if you are doing well! As your swelling goes down, it is expected that you will be able to drink normally. As Wanda said, not huge glassfuls at a time, but with normal swallowing amounts, not tiny sips. Once you get there, you're much less likely to get dehydrated. So yeah! It takes a long time to retrain your brain to your new "appropriately-sized" meals. In the beginning, I only served myself 1/4 cup servings since that was the size of my new stomach. Wanda was correct about eating very slowly and stopping between bites. It just takes practice for you to recognize that "full" feeling. And it's not like the "full" you experienced before. It's a totally different sensation, at least for me. So be looking for something new, not for the old feeling you used to get. It's more like, "Am I still hungry or do I want another bite just because it tastes good?" It's almost more mental than physical. Hope this helps!

    Day 1 pre-op.. already sucks!

I know this sounds off-the-wall, but when the carb cravings hit, try taking a couple of Tums. It could be too much stomach acid and your body wants the carbs to settle the acid.

    The Holidays are coming...

Check out Skinnytaste.com for great low-cal recipes. Her specialty is making healthier versions of favorite foods. She includes all the nutritional info at the bottom of the recipes. Between that and your limited portion size, I think you'll be great. Good luck!

    Revision?

A revision from sleeve to rny for severe reflux is considered medically necessary, hence all the tests to establish the necessity. It is not considered weight-loss surgery by my insurance.

    Questions for the nervous.

For my insurance, the only weight that counted for approval was my first visit to the surgeon. I have Cigna. You should ask. Good luck!

I'd try with the regular first before I buy anything special. You may end up hating eggs, after all.

    Food Before and After Photos

Most "omelette-y" type foods can also be made in muffin tins to make portioning easier. 😉 Sorry you're so stressed out. It will get better and there are a lot of options once you get to the "mashed" stage.
