    WHY?

Because my specific issues were excessive hunger and portion control. The sleeve addressed both of these. I wanted the ghrelin reduced and I wanted the restriction.

Prayer! If you do not believe in prayer, do not click on this post..

    We'll pray for you.

    Dry mouth

Thanks, Matt. I don't have any problems during the day feeling hydrated. It's just waking up at night that is annoying me. I've never had that "tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth" feeling before. It's really weird.

    Alcohol?

I had 2 glasses of wine with my birthday dinner, 5 months post-op. I didn't feel that it hit me hard, but I had a designated driver, anyway. Haven't had any since. As much as I enjoy my wine, I'd rather keep my calories low right now.

    Dry mouth

I'm so glad I found this thread. I have been going crazy waking up with my mouth so dry that my tongue is literally stuck to the roof of my mouth! I'll give the Biotene a try. Thanks!

    Smoking

    Congratulations!
  7. AMEN, Sister! Actually, I do buy bras online most of the time. Manufacturers assume that when a woman's got plenty of padding, a good portion of that should have gone to her b@@bs. Alas, that is not the case. Even at my highest weight, I was only a C cup, but I really needed a 44 band. Never found that. Had to make do with size 42Cs and bra extenders. But, at least I could find the 42Cs online. Don't know that I ever found them in stores.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I'm right there with ya! Turned 59 in July. Same height, but one box to the right on the BMI tables, so I've got a few more pounds before I'm out of obese category. I hadn't even realized that, so thanks!

    Dealing with grief post op

I am terribly sorry for your loss. I know the type of grief that causes physical pain and turns you inside out. I love the suggestions above about doing something that honors his memory and keeps it alive. My suggestion would be to start writing down everything you can remember about him. His sense of humor, his eccentricities, his annoying habits. Remember and record vacation memories, brother-sister teasing, ways that he was wonderful and ways that he was goofy. It's sad to say, but as time goes by, these memories become fuzzy around the edges, some will be forgotten entirely. Make a gift to your future self by collecting and saving all the memories that you can. If you are a church-goer, many churches have grief support groups and/or Stephen ministers that can offer support. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

    Was giving a second chance

Congrats on your re-set and hope everything goes well!

    Smoking

On another thread, someone suggested putting a load of ashes/butts into a plastic bag. When the temptation to smoke hits you, open the bag and take a big whiff. Good luck, I know it's hard!
  12. In my experience the tailoring for men's suits is not included in the price. One thing I will grant - men's suits usually have plenty of fabric to hem the pants. Women's suits usually have very little fabric to work with, making it very difficult for tall women.

    Flinstones multivitamins??

Can you please be specific - which brand of bariatric vitamins you're recommending? There are so many brands and they all have different nutritional content. Thanks

    Flinstones multivitamins??

    I was told to take 2 Flintstones/day
  15. It can't hurt your sleeve. It's a liquid and will pass right through. Congrats on your surgery! Hope your healing goes well!

    The regain posts

But isn't that what the veterans' forum is for? Focusing on things other than the immediate effects of surgery? I imagine vets still have plenty of challenges and wisdom to share with each other. Our "old life" will always be issuing its siren song, trying to drag us back . . . I can't wait to transition to the vet forum! p.s. I've stepped back from most of the basic question threads. I let newer people answer them. (Unless it looks like they're not going to get a response. Then I can't help myself.) I try to make sure no-one feels ignored.
  17. Some people have more money than sense! Although, if I were paying $495 just for that stupid logo, I'd want it even bigger so that people across the room knew how much money I had to waste on ugly shirts! And those men's coats - looks like those pouty boys enlisted in the Continental Army! They have tails! Where are the George Washington wigs?
  18. And the label in the coat looks a bit like "Barnum . . ."
  19. Who knew it cost so much to the the Ringmaster at the circus?

7 days post up and HUNGRY!!

Try sf jello. Don't chew well. It will slide down fine. It gives you a sense of "full" for a while.
  21. My twins are 6'3", so I've done a fair amount of plus-size shopping for men. Their clothing is more expensive, pretty much all the time. And XLT is a hard size to find. I don't mind the up-charge if it's a couple of dollars. I know it takes more fabric.
  22. Very informative articles, thank you!

    WHY?

I had serious misgivings about this as well. My mom passed away last year and for about her last 12-18 months, it was a struggle to keep her at about 105 lbs. She had been about 5'6", 135 lbs. for most of her life. I had forgotten that this was one of the things that steered me toward a sleeve - to preserve as much of my digestive system as possible and still lose enough weight to make me healthier.

Waking up in pain after surgery

I'd say it was about the same as a hysterectomy. I was sore, but not incapacitated. Sounds like you'll be fine.
