Islandgyrl got a reaction from clsumrall in Any April surgery buddies
Hello everyone! Reporting back. I’m now 4 days p.o. (sleeved 4/19). Experience was far from the horror I drummed up. Frankly, once I woke up from the surgery, I had no recollection that they were done, and I was in recovery. Sure I was sore and groggy, but that was to be expected. By the time I was released to my room, I spent the next few hours dozing on and off. My first drink was easy going down, but uncomfortable because of gas. I walked and walked until it subsided. Pretty much the routine until I was discharged 2 days later. Now, it’s a learning experience on how big or small of a sip I can take to avoid the sudden onset of gas/heartburn. It’s really all not too bad once you get a handle of what works for you, and what you are able to tolerate.

Oh, Nikki31, I’m sorry you’re going through a tough time. I have to admit, as soon as I got home, I tried a new Protein Drink from Core Power. In one sip, it didn’t sit right. I thought maybe I’m not ready for shakes, but tried again, and the 2nd sip felt like I was gonna die. I can’t even explain the pain. Needless to say, I will never touch a Core Power anything. I got an Ensure in the hospital, and I tried that, and didn’t have a problem with gas or bloating. I’ve since tried Premier and GENEPRO, and have been fine. You might consider unflavored Protein, and you can sprinkle that thing in anything. I even put it in my flavored water for added bonus. Genepro and Unjury have one, and both are available online or GNC. Wishing you well!

The point is that you should have already been made aware that you might die during surgery. If anyone is going into this without understanding that there is risk for surgery then please realize that you have not researched this enough. No surgery is 100% safe. However, you need to do some soul searching to find out if the risk is worth it or not. Many people who chicken out of having the surgery will go on to die of an obesity-related illness. For example, I knew a woman in the early 2000s who canceled her gastric bypass within days of doing it. She lived for 2 more years and died of a heart attack brought on by the fact that she was morbidly obese, weighing over 400 lbs. So don't think that you are safe by canceling your surgery. You just need to be aware that there is a risk of death and a risk for complications. If you feel the benefits outweigh the risk then go ahead and do it. The majority of people do fine with gastric sleeve. This board is filled with people who have had the surgery and are pleased with the results. Speak to your doctor if you have any more concerns.

Hello everyone. So excited to hear all your journey. Can’t wait to update with mine. After a little snafu, I am scheduled for the sleeve on 4/19. That’s tomorrow. TO.MOR.ROW! Nervous and anxious.
I’m 45 from Los Angeles, and one of those lower BMI, but still obese with multiple comorbidities. Fortunately/Unfortunately, after my preop liquid diet, I loss just enough to be no longer qualified. Instead, I’m having mine in Mexico, as I’m stalled, still have comorbidities, and in no way able to sustain that diet on my own. Wishing everyone the best and speedy recovery!

They're $0.49 for the 32oz bottles starting today at Ralphs markets when you buy eight or more. (For those outside of Ralphs' territory in California, Ralphs is part of the Kroger chain but I don't know if the price will be good at all stores in the chain.)
Also, I went to Stater Bros yesterday to get it there while it was $0.49 and of course they were sold out, so I got a rain check for 25 bottles.

These are good questions for your doctor. With more frequent blood sugar testing, you might be able to better dial in you meds to avoid situations like you're describing....particularly if your diet is very stable like it would be on the liquid diet. As you lose weight and change your diet, your needs for meds might change significantly.
Discuss this process with your doctor.
Question....why won't you be able to drink a little juice in case of emergency after your sleeve?

Islandgyrl reacted to Creekimp13 in Increased Sex Drive, better orgasms?
This is a side effect of surgery I haven't heard discussed...but it's definitely something that has occurred for me...so wanted to talk about it with anyone who is willing.
Don't mean to be graphic here...but I don't think it's just the extra confidence and improved body image that comes with weight loss. (in truth...there's a lot that's lookin a little saggy and comical these days...so there's a mixed bag of physical confidence.....and I've always had a great sex life with my hubby)
No, what I'm talking about....is actual sex drive. Biochemical physical capacity.
Not just more willingness to have or pursue sex....but more sensation. A deeper more spectacular orgasm. Does that make sense?
I mean...they do kinda wind down a little as you get older. Still great...but not like when you were a kid.
But lately, I feel like I'm revisiting that intensity.......from when we were young and crazy horny and an orgasm felt like a full sky grand finale of fireworks instead of a medium sized rocket and a couple of roman candles sputtering away at the end.
The big ones are back. Layers of Kaboom so loud you feel them and the whole sky lights up, explodes..and twinkles.
Honestly not meaning to write a sensational goofy post here.
This is just a curious observation, and I'd like to know if other people are experiencing this?
Have your orgasms gotten extra spectacular lately?

Islandgyrl reacted to karmanodrama in Post op day 1 - I have had the easiest recovery and here is why....
First of all I am an ICU nurse of 30 years. I took care of patients coming right out of open heart surgery. This is where my idea came from.
My surgery was yesterday. When I woke up in the recovery room I had a lot of pain so they gave me Dilaudid which is a strong narcotic. The Dilaudid eased the pain but it still hurt. It just made me sleepy. I asked the doctor if he would order Toradol IV. We give it to open heart patients who are in a lot of pain because it doesn't make you sleepy and you are able to get up and starting moving right away.
(If you like the narcotic buzz, you will not like Toradol)!
Anyway, I got the Toradol. It was a miracle. I have had the smoothest recovery. I forget that I just had surgery!!
I wasn't going to post this because I don't want to give medical advice. But I also don't want to hold back on something that could help all of you that are about to have surgery. Just know that I am only giving you my experience.
The best part is that it completely took my pain away...I mean completely!!!
So I was up walking and taking deep breaths. I ate Jello the first night ( last night) with no problem.
    I hope I didn't just jinx myself !!!!
Anyway post op day one here! So far....So good! And I am loving that green jello! Why is it always green????

Yes. The clinic has befriended me on MyFitnessPal so I just have to log there. I have not changed much in the diet yet. I am going to slowly work on removing caffeine, sodas and some smaller other things. It is a fine line. It makes me nervous. I don't want to fall too low because weight is still an issue for me. I definitely don't want to gain. I fluctuate all over in this weight range. I could go to Mexico to get it done if absolutely necessary, but would rather insurance pick it up if at all possible. With Mexico, it would be a quick process. We would be looking at June and done. Insurance in the states is probably more like 6-8 months and stay within the guidelines. But, 7-8k saved and in my pocket and can get follow up care locally, if needed.

I was wondering this exact thing today. I'm planning on being sleeved in late March in Mexico and I'm nervous about followup care.

Samara, it's great that your doctor took over care. What are some things that the two of you have struggled with?

Bariatrix Florida. I paid $8899, but I think it's about $10500 now. Also Dr shillingford in FL, Dr Borland in Louisiana, Dr Umbach in Las Vegas are all under $11k I think. I used insurance for preop, but everything else except post op bloodwork was covered.

Hey stupid question bothering me. I'm sure they give the excised stomachs to pathology so they can check and make sure there was no cancer or other bad dudes lurking in there, but then do they use them for anything else or just incinerate them? Just quizzical, you know.

I just had surgery on the 26th but, I did a pre op Optifast diet for 4 weeks pre op. The first week was hell with carb and sugar withdrawal. After that first week, it got much easier.
Hang in there. This will make your surgery much safer and be well worth it in the end. Remember to drink as much Water as you can hold. It will help flush the toxins out and give you a feeling of satiety.
