You are absolutely correct. No one diet is right or wrong. As a firm believer in Keto (for myself) it did not work 100% on me. But what I did learn from it was that my body is very much gluten intolerant and my body starves for Proteins and veggies. The overall problem for me and why it didn't work was I not only have Uterine Fibroids but I also have Hypothyroidism. What works for one condition is counter-conductive to the other. meat proteins and estrogen grow fibroids. A plant based diet is not good for hypothyroidism. It was a lose-lose situation for me. Hence the final decision to have the surgery. I'm hoping my new stomach will serve a vessel that will nourish my body and continue to teach me what works and doesn't work all the while losing the weight I've been struggling with.

Diet preachers are so irritating. I have someone in my life right now that won't stop pushing high-fat Keto (85% or more) on me. I've tried it, and it is not for me. Many people find themselves not hungry on that plan....I am ravenous, and I honestly find it kind of gross. Others are pushing plant based all the time. A great option if it works for you, but I not only enjoy dairy and meat but I lose better and feel better when I eat it. There is no one right way for anyone. The only diet that works is one you can stick with, something that is realistic for you and helps you mentally and physically feel good. I've always done best on moderate carb, moderate fat, high Protein, lots of veggies...and Portion Control. That's why I am choosing this surgery, because it will help me restrict my portions and push me toward protein and veggies while not completely eliminating carbs. That doesn't work for everyone, and I wouldn't push it on anyone. I wouldn't suggest any eating plan unless someone brought it up and asked. You can politely decline a food without getting into a whole speech about how gluten blows you up or how cows milk should only be ingested by baby cows. Just say "No, thank you." You can add a simple, "I refrain from X" if you must. If someone asks, and you are comfortable, by all means, give advice. You might help them. If they haven't asked though, no need to get into the details. Anyone dealing with any diet preachers?

I've been out of town for three months, so for a lot of people in my town it looks like these changes have happened all at once. Two of the nail salon workers spent 5 minutes gossiping with each other about how my face had thinned out, how my cheekbones are more prominent, and how my butt and thighs are much smaller (though they thought I wasn't using enough sunblock because I've freckled this summer). They also decided that it wasn't plastic surgery and that I must be eating practically nothing. This all happened right in front of me while I'm getting a pedicure.
They have entirely forgotten that I understand Korean.

I did a 5K today (and set a personal record!), and initially requested an XL t-shirt, but exchanged it for an L because the XL looked way too big. Then I washed it and it shrank a lot. Then as I was putting it on, I was thinking the following: Oh, this will never fit-it totally fits.

On vacation in Yellowstone, have had no knee pain hiking up and down and all around. And in the gift shop got a size L sweatshirt - bye bye, 2XL rack!

When I was a freshman in college this happened to me (in front of my only cousin on my Mom’s side who I’d met only once before plus other family and lots of strangers). I was turned away at the entry gate to the ride after not wanting to try fitting in the example seats they had up at the front. I was frustrated and embarrassed and have held the experience with me for over a decade. I used to love roller coasters and rides but have not been on a single ride since. I can’t wait until I’m small enough to feel okay going again!

Omg, isn’t that a great feeling. I used to have to ask hubby to pull the car out of the parking space so it would be easier for me to get in. No more. Parking is not a problem anymore.

My latest nsv isn’t much but it means something to me. I can’t really see change in my body but my measurements are shrinking and clothes that used to fit tightly fit and are actually fitting looser 😊

Just passed the 1 month surgery mark. I travel a lot for business and I had an entire strategy about sitting at the back of the planes, trying to secretly put on the seat belt extender, super humiliated if someone sees me do it, and overall just felt really terrible even using one. Today I flew without one on 2 different airlines. No one except me knew why I was smiling so much upon take off. Bye Bye Seat Belt extender!

Please don't stress about this. I stalled out after I got home from the hospital as well. In fact, I didn't lose much at all my first month and now I'm 7 months post op, down 132lbs. Your body essentially goes into starvation mode after your pre op diet and your first few weeks. I didn't find the loss picked up until I was back to eating a "normal" bariatric diet. This too shall pass, and this is NOT indicative of how your long term success will be.

Sleeved36 reacted to Swanton_Bomb in Fat Tax on Plus-Size Clothing (but almost exclusively on women's clothing, not men's)
I'm fine with my clothing costing a little more, but for some brands it is excessive and far beyond the cost of the extra fabric. What bothers me much more is brands that refuse to manufacture plus size clothing because they don't want fat people walking around in their designs, and companies that make plus size clothing but will only carry them online and not in stores. Old Navy does that. Their clothes run big so I can fit into their XXL, but their plus size is only online and that bothers me. The extra cost can be justified.

I know I'm getting in here late, and probably too far along in this discussion, BUT....
I agree and disagree with the cost of plus size clothing for men and women. First off, it does cost the manufacturers more for the fabric and labor. Secondly, I think it highly depends on where you shop to see a discrepancy between the cost of regular sizes and plus sizes. For example, Lane Bryant and Torrid are very pricy stores. This could be equivalent to a Ann Taylor Loft or White House Black Market for smaller women. The problem comes in to play that plus size men and women don't have the less expensive clothing store options, for example, like an Old Navy (with the exception of shopping online). And that brings me to another point, why is it that plus sized people are inherently forced to shop online if they want selection? Matt Z is right, the men's section is slim to none as well. Why is it that the plus size section at Target is TINY and mixed into maternity, that is even TINER? Don't these retail stores know that the average US woman is a size 16.
And don't get me started about undergarments for large women. When you can't find your bra size anywhere but Lane Bryant and have to pay $50+ for one, GIVE ME A BREAK...I mean unless you want to order bras online, *rolling my eyes again*
Needless to say, no longer being a plus size woman is the BIGGEST NSV there is. I'm glad I don't have to struggle with which stores will have my size, or pay extra for those clothing options.
