Hello! I am also an MA resident, my surgery is May 14th in Cambridge.
  3. Did you get this on Dashing Dish by chance? I had a strawberry shortcake protein cake and it was suuuuuper yummy!

    Time off from work

audiobooks my friend. A rather large number of audiobooks (much to my husband's dismay!) I also talk on the phone with other commuter friends of mine But I won't lie, it SUCKS. I really really really hate my commute. But Boston is where the $$ is.
  6. I love the youtube vlogs, and was watching them religiously until my husband pointed out they all seem to end in divorce and that I was giving him a complex LOL. But I still love watching them. They are kind of like inspirational soap operas

    Time off from work

I think I am going to take 3 weeks, and return earlier if I feel up to it. I have a desk job in theory, but do a lot of bustling around. However my biggest hesitation is my commute. I am in the car around 2 hours each way. Doesn't sound insanely comfortable right after surgery. I will be using STD coupled with PTO to get 100% pay. So 48 hours of PTO + my 60% STD benefits.

So I'm not, but literally just got back from there Was there on vacation. Anyways, hello!
  9. LOL I can do this with my size 24s now! I am still at 270, as I have been for 2 weeks, but my clothing looks all frumpy. I just have to make them last another few weeks since my surgery is May 14th. I have 2 pairs of older pants that are 22, and 2 new pairs of 20s. Hopefully that will last me a bit. After that, its summer (if it ever stops freaking snowing!!!) and I can make dresses stretch me a bit longer than pants.
  10. Probably because the recovery IS similar. Stalls are not unique to one specific weight loss surgery, or even surgery itself but are common in any weight loss program. Your body needs to sort of re-calibrate every now and then. Whether its the VSG, RNY or DS procedure, the recovery is similar, which is why many surgeons have similar post-op instructions. Additionally, I wouldn't discount the information from sleeve veterans, because I've found those who are a few months out from surgery have been active on these boards for a long time and have absorbed a plethora of information from previous posters. They may have information about a procedure, even if it isn't the same surgery they had. Personally, I've found myself e-stalking a few posts from RNY patients despite being a pre-op sleever myself because their stats align with mine. Just my 2 cents though

    Coffee! Coffee! Coffee!

having done this as well, its great!
  12. Honestly, I will probably be one of those people who buys outfits for every other size. (i.e. 24 pants now, but rocking SEVERE saggy bum LOL) and I probably won't buy anything until size 20. I love shopping, and am excited LOL. Hubby not so much... He is cheap. He may or may not being having anxiety about checking account balances LOL. Happy to donate the clothes when I outgrow to anyone here who may be on a budget.

    Shopping for Post-op

I am in the early stages of shopping now. My doctor's office was helpful and gave me a shopping list of items I would need, but added a few of my own. To the poster above that mentioned smaller plates, I did the same! It tricks the mind into thinking you have more food. It's actually helped me on my pre-op diet. I had lots of fun buying pretty new plates too... but I'm kind of a shopper...
  14. Additionally, anesthesia itself can cause many patients to retain water longer than usual. I am still pre-op, but have had surgeries previously and always know to avoid the scale for about 2 weeks until all the weight gain attributed to the hospital fluids/medications/anesthesia have worn off.

    Coffee! Coffee! Coffee!

You can drink decaff coffee! The main reason you can't have caffeinated coffee is due to it being a diuretic which can cause issues with your fluid intake. My nutritionist said as soon as people are exceeding their fluid intake, she allows regular coffee back. I made the switch to decaff at the beginning of the process, as I like you am a coffee addict. I kid you not I would drink anywhere between 3-5 cups of coffee a day. Not sure if I will go back to the caffeinated version or not post-surgery since decaf tastes the same. However how do you take your coffee? I've experimented with multiple different "decaf coffee lattes" to try to mimic my favorites. If you drink it with light cream, then try adding 2tbs of vanilla premier protein. Adding more premier protein gives it a more decadent taste. I personally cannot add more than 1/2 a pp because it becomes wayyy to sweet. You can try the other flavors as well. My favorite hands down is 4oz dark roast coffee + 1/2 Caramel premier protein, pop in the microwave for 45 seconds and you have yourself a foam-free macchiato!
  16. I actually only have a 2-day pre-op diet required, but I’m thinking of joining everyone on their pre-op plans as I’m nervous about my liver being too big. I haven’t found many others that didn’t have at least a 1 week pre-op. Anyone have a 2-day liquid pre-op and do okay?
  17. My hubs and my kids are my rock! My husband does the cooking during the week since I am the workaholic, and has completely changed not only what he cooks, but how as well. First it was my gluten sensitivity, then the radical diet change prepping for my surgery.he will sometimes make a separate meal for me depending on what my food intake is for the day. He’s learned to cook with protein powder. My daughters are great too, especially my oldest. She is on my “diet” with me for the most part. She’s always been a big veggie eater, and loooves the protein shakes I make in the AM. She also tries to help me read labels so I can enter the info into MyFitnessPal. She is 8. My youngest (4) is like the police. “Mommy I think you added too much fruit in your shake,” or “Mommy you can’t have any of my Easter candy or the doctor will yell at you!” [emoji23]

    SOS I'm nervous

You probably haven’t sprung a leak, but if your continuously vomiting you should call your doctor.

    May surgery

Hi! I am May 14 and feeling incredibly excited! My pre-op diet is only 2 days (sat+sun before Monday surgery) but lately I’ve considered following others and doing a 1 or 2 week liquids plan? I’m terrified my liver will be too big to operate on. What does your pre-op diet look like?
  22. So glad to hear your doing better!
  23. Hello, very nice to ‘meet’ you. Welcome to the forums! I can help answer some of these. 1: a good friend of mine who had this surgery is a big traveler. She is on the road a lot for work, and for personal pleasure. She had the surgery in May 2017. Spent the later part of June and early July in India, departing 4 weeks after surgery. She did a lot of research about food options and networked with our Indian office to make sure she was prepared with what she should eat. Sometimes Protein supplements are difficult to tie down in other countries. She made it work. After that trip, she spent a long time in Europe, which she said was incredibly easy compared to India and had no struggles. 2. Another friend of mine is an AVID biker and had her surgery in Jan 2016. She completed a shorter Maine to Boston trip over 3 days in the fall of 2017. She said she couldn’t have done it sooner than a year out, both from a weight perspective and ability. The rapid weight loss aside, you need to be at a place where you know your new body. Some people may be able to do this quicker than others. But you have to really know your body and have an understanding of your limits before you put yourself into a situation where you may be exposed to intense situations such as heat exposure and prolonged exercise. She trained for her trek for a few months before it took place and was able to complete it and have a wonderful time. I am hoping to join her in a few years after my surgery, once I am at a stage where I am fit and in maintenance mode.
