Hi May 14ers like me! I hope each of you had a successful surgery and are in easy recovery mode!
  2. I am still feeling pretty good! Getting all my walking and Water sipping on. I am glad I read so many threads about easier recoveries, because I think I’m one of them. Gas pain is almost gone, and the most irritating this is the pain in the largest incision site. Yesterday I got in around 35oz of fluids, and probably 20g of Protein. My goal for today is 45 oz Fluid and 30g of protein. Considering the minor insomnia I’m having I think this should be possible [emoji4]
  3. Thanks everyone! I am doing well! Just started my first “meal”. Chicken broth, jello and water
  4. Hi everyone, I am feeling GREAT today! Yesterday was a bit rough, bit now I am doing much better. Just had my contrast test to make sure there is no leak, then I’ll be cleared to have water. Sooooo thirsty. Thank you all for your support!

Good luck everyone!!! Super excited for tomorrow! Can't wait for it to be done. I wish each and every one of you a successful surgery and easy recovery!
  7. Good Morning! I am hoping I could get some advice from this group. My surgery is scheduled for May 14th. I am 30 years old, and have a BMI of 43.6. I have no co-morbidities. I have had one previous abdominal surgery (gall bladder) and the recovery from that was very easy for me. I was back at work 2 days after surgery. Now, the reason I am telling you this is because my husband had a heart attack last week and is in the hospital waiting for a bypass. Heart Disease runs strong in his family. His surgery is scheduled for Monday, April 30th. The recovery for it is pretty freaking intense. As a result, I am considering pushing my surgery back a few weeks. My husband and family are adamantly against it. My mom works part time as a school bus driver, and my sister is on Maternity Leave, so they said they will take care of the kids (8 and soon to be 5) and us for the first week after my surgery. My main concern is this: My husband can't drive for at least the first 6 weeks to allow the sternum to heal. I won't be able to drive right after surgery (according to my paperwork at least). Does anyone know how long that is for? How soon were you driving? I just feel that with him only being 2 weeks post op, it seems insane to go in for another surgery! My concern with pushing the surgery back is work and insurance. For work, I've already got the leave approved, the STD in place, and have started to train my coverage while I am out. I took 3 weeks off post-surgery since I have a 1.5 - 2 hour commute each way and my thought was seatbelt + incisions = not fun. For insurance, my insurance came out with that pesky 6-month clause right at the end of my time that said any approvals submitted after 4/13 for approval needed to include 6 months of supervised weightloss. The original approval is good for within 30 days of the originally specified surgery date (They originally approved for April 16-20, and my surgery is May 14 so if falls within that 30 days). So I am afraid that if I request to push it out to say June, they may decline and make me continue with the 6 month and not have my surgery until August/September, which is the start to my busiest months at work (Not to mention the 2,000 person 4 day conference I am hosting the first week of September, AND the first week of October). In truth, I probably won't be able to make a decision about this until my husband is post-op and I can see how he is healing. Due to his age and general health, they consider it to be an extremely easy recovery but one can never tell. However, I would welcome your thoughts especially as it pertains to recovery from VSG while caring for another post-op person or if you had more insight into the recovery of bypass (Doctors can tell us what they expect, but I find people who live through it usually have more insight into the actual day to day). Thank you in advance for any advice you can give. Kind regards, Kay P.S. One last tidbit I forgot to mention, I have no issues with making dinners and such for my family while post-op. I don't have uncontrollable food cravings, nor do I have binging issues with food so am not concerned with feeling stress about being surrounded by food I cannot eat.
  8. Hi Everyone, Thanks for checking in! My hubs is doing GREAT! Well, he's getting on my nerves because he is home and bored and whining. LOL. His recovery has actually been easy. The first few days were chaotic as he needed help with a lot of things, but he is completely independent minus the driving. He feels much better and is not handling the "being cooped up at home unable to drive anywhere" stage of this recovery very well. I think its actually a good thing I will be going for my surgery since it will mean I am off for the next few weeks with him and he won't be as lonely. So yes, my surgery is still a GO! I go in at 2pm on Monday
  9. ^^ this is very important. I notice that pre-op, if my calories fall below 1300 my weight STALLS hardcore. If I manage to get 1500-1600 I lose quicker. My metabolism is shot. It’s one of the reasons both my doctor and I believe my weight loss will be on the slower side and so I’ve mentally prepared myself for a cross country race to the healthy line instead of a sprint

Same! It terrifies me. I know it's the golden standard, but figured that since I don't have the co-morbidities that the RnY specifically addresses, the sleeve was enough for me.

Located in Central Massachusetts. I am having the sleeve as well.
  12. The mass wine... My daughter just received her 1st communion last weekend and was very upset that I wouldn't drink "the blood" with her (they give kids sparkling cider). She said "Don't worry mom, it's decaff!". I couldn't help but laugh. I was very vocal in my dismay that I had to give up caffeinated coffee (although now that I've done it, I am happy with my decaff) and when I said I couldn't drink wine, I think she assumed it was for the same reason.
  13. SO happy for you! Glad you are doing better
  14. I love wine <3. In fairness, I don't drink often, and its uncommon for me to have more than a glass in one sitting but my doc says no booze for 1 year. I'm going to miss a nice glass of white wine in the summer
  15. Glad you found it helpful! P.S. I love your sunglasses!

I’m getting antsy! I wish it was THIS Monday! Ugh cannot wait for the new start. Are you getting the sleeve or RNY?

I drink about 120oz of water at least. Some days 100oz, but I am a huge water drinker.

    Nervous

Hi Caramel, this surgery is a big decision. I am scheduled the day before you [emoji4] The post op diet is a way of life. It definitely takes commitment. But your not giving up good food, it’s really opening a whole new way to eat. Yes the first few weeks are rough with the liquid and purée phase, but it’s just a small stepping stone to better things!

    VEGAS!!!

Is there such a thing as a quiet family trip to Vegas? Or any type of quiet trip to Vegas? That's like going to New York City to get away from people haha

    VSG candidate, boyfriend NOT onboard!

I am sorry you are going through this. Not to sound callous, but he sounds like a jerk. The truth is that this situation sounds like a lose/lose. If you decide not to get the surgery to accommodate him, eventually you may begin to harbor resentment. As you continue to push yourself to get results, there is a strong possibility they won't be what you are hoping for. So many of us try to lose weight. And we do. But then it stops. I have a few friends who went from 300lbs+ to a healthy weight, but their life literally revolves around working out and always making the perfect food choices. My doctor explained it that our bodies are like memory foam. They are accustomed to our obese size, and want to get back to that weight. I eat a candy bar? 2lb gain right there. My sister eats a big mac with fries and lg coke? Nada. So if the weight does not come off or stay off, in the back of your mind you may begin to blame him. That is a very ugly situation. On the flip side, if you DO get the surgery, your boyfriend is going to feel like you didn't value his opinion. That you didn't take him into consideration. While I would love to say that he is a self-centered butthead for thinking this, it really isn't. When people important to us make life-changing decisions, it has a snowball effect so obviously we want our opinions known. You love him, so you care for his opinion. However it only goes so far. You need to take care of you over his feelings. This situation should make you reevaluate what you want in life. You have a view of how you want to live your life, and if that involves having the surgery to pursue an obesity free life, then you need to ask yourself if you will allow one person's different opinion to trump that. It is not an easy choice. It might help if you think of it not as a choice between him or the surgery, but instead think of it as two different versions of yourself. Do you want to be a WLS patient on the road to a healthier lifestyle? Or do you want to continue doing what your doing and go for the best results you can?

I feel so guilty about not having a liquid pre-op, but I have cut out many things already. I haven't had a candy bar in 3 months haha. I drink a shake every morning, but I make my own. (Today was 1/2C greek yogurt, 8oz unsweetened almond milk, 1 scoop Delicious Dream French Vanilla protein powder and 1/4C of frozen GS apples). I am keeping my calories to around 1400, carbs fairly low, and no added sugars. Be that as it may... my weight hasn't gone down much :(. My body doesn't like to lose weight haha.
  22. Hi everyone! My surgery is next week and I am about done with all my pre-op shopping. I have purchased: 3 Different brands of Protein Powder: Delicious Dream French Vanilla (24g), Aria Protein in Chocolate, Vanilla (both 20g) and Vanilla Cupcake (10g Lower protein for a not so dense shake), and Isopure (25g) in 4 flavors, including unlfavored. Premier Protein RTD (30g) in chocolate, caramel, vanilla, bananas & cream and strawberry. Protein Waters: Protein20 (20g), Premier Protein Clear (15g), and Trimino (7g) 2x Blender Bottles Multiple small plates (This was strongly recommended by multiple wls vets!) Multiple small bowls Milk of Magnesia Colace Bariatric Fusion Vitamins Calcium Chews Benefiber Cheap slippers for in hospital stay (those socks suck) Toilet seat riser (recommended by a soon-to-be sleeved friend on here) Squatty Potty (I hear it works, so I figured why not!) I didn't have to buy any shake/food equipment since I already had a food scale and the Ninja Inteli-sense system that has a blender/food processor/ spiralizer/ and some other random things (I have yet to use so not sure what they do haha) And because I am neurotic, I've tested out dozens of recipes over the last few months and built up a little repitoire of bariatric-friendly recipes for me to try post-surgery for each different stage. I'll be making some homemade bone broth this week (Dad's a butcher so this comes out really really good!) as well as other quick meals for the first few days post surgery where I probably won't want to cook. Now that I am reading over this I probably over prepared, but that's type of person I am.

    Baby foof

I remember tasting it once when my kids were babies. Never doing that again.... LOL. I mean baby food FRUIT is fine. I tried peas and it was nasty. WICKED NASTY.
  24. He sounds like a great man and hubby It makes a huge difference having support at home. My heart breaks for those who struggle with establishing a solid support group, especially when spouses/SOs are the ones who are the unsupportive ones. I wish everyone had this!
