Are you still on the painkillers? The painkillers always make me kind of nauseated. I expect you are since you are still having pain. Hopefully as you heal more, you will be able to take something else like Tylenol. I hope you start to feel better soon!

I prefer to not take any pain meds but have been taking the prescription my doctor wrote for me. Last night I simply took two Tylenol and it was enough to sleep through the night. I’m in pain again today but it’s tolerable for the most part.

I can’t WAIT for a flipping scrambled egg!!!!! How long before you were cleared to the purée stage? I have my week post op visit on Monday. Fingers crossed!!

One week of liquids post surgery, weeks 2-4 soft diet (eggs, tuna, canned chicken, over cooked meats, over cooked veggies, oatmeal, reduced fat cheese, etc.), week 5 and beyond sleeve diet. My husband and I have post op appointments Tues. His 6 week and my 1 week F/U. Good luck Monday and keep us posted.

  3. Hi there, I also had surgery on May 14. It was supposed to be outpatient but it ended up in the hospital for 48 hours due to not being able to keep even the tiniest sip of liquid down. Two days of violently vomiting while losing my bladder all the same time while still in my hospital bed. Talk about embarrassing! I was utterly exhausted and spent an extensive amount of time sleeping. Moving home made all the difference in the world. For the first time ever I dealt with serious Constipation but a couple servings of baby prunes did the trick. Like you I’m having a lot of internal and incision pain especially when I twist and turn...note to self no twisting and turning. Last night I slept with a really soft pillow against my stomach and that helped when I rolled over. Tomorrow I’ll be able to start the soft food phase and I already have two meals planned out. Crustless quiche made with egg beaters and reduced fat cheese with pulverized turkey bacon, mushrooms, spinach and broccoli. I made this for my husband last month when he was in a soft food phase and the entire family thought it was delicious. The real encouragement is actually realizing weight loss. As of Saturday morning I had lost 9 pounds and could already see a difference. I know it’s tough but hang in there and know that you are absolutely not alone. Can’t wait to hear more about your journey and your successes!

Hi all, I had my sleeve, which is 4 yrs old, revised to Rouyen Y on the 17th. I told the Anesthesiologist I get nauseated and he gave me a patch, so no problems. Also, if nausea persists you should ask for an RX of Zofran. My pain is mostly gas I think. Love the baby food prunes idea! Good luck all!

Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Wow!! Good luck on your new journey!! Getting ahead of the nausea is crucial. Today I had waves of nausea but it went away with two Zofran.

  5. My BFF told my husband and I about Water like Protein Drinks that can be purchased at The Vitamin Shoppe that have 40 grams of Protein. We tried two flavors today and they were soooo much better than the flavored shakes. I think that they are called Isopure. Expensive but worth it if you can’t take another shake.

I’m already planning my soft food menu for this week...crustless quiche made with egg beaters, reduced fat cheese and cooked then pulverized turkey bacon, mushrooms, spinach and broccoli. I made this for my hubby when he went through the soft food phase last month and it was incredible! Our kids loved it and had it everyday too. Also a taco dish made from ground turkey, fat free retried Beans, taco sauce and reduced fat cheese.

Has as anyone checked their weight loss yet? I’m down 9 lbs since surgery Monday. It’s CRAZY!!

I was sleeved on May 16th as well. I have had 0 nausea thank the lord. That was one of my biggest fears along with Constipation. They gave me a nausea shot in pre op before surgery and I told the anathesialogist about my fear to, so maybe that's why. I also found out that the pain medications they give us will cause both of these. Other than a terrible Headache I had in the hospital from the morphine and the gas pains I feel really good. Hang in there we only have good things to come. Congratulations on your journey to a new you!

Congratulations!!!! That’s awesome! So smart to get a nausea shot before surgery!! I had headaches for the first 3-4 days and once I got back on my regular schedule of meds and was able to keep some foods down they went away. Constipation is real and not fun!! Praise God for baby food prunes! I’m down 9 pounds as of today and am shocked. Can’t wait to hear more about your successes!!

  7. I was sleeved Mon May 14 and my nausea was so severe I couldn’t keep even the tiniest sip of liquids down for the first two days. The nurses tried a variety of nausea meds and Carafate finally worked. It was like a miracle!! It is a drug frequently used for ulcers and it coats your stomach. It has a chalky taste like liquid stomach medicine. I don’t mind it at all. Finally Wed I could keep down tiny sips down and was released from the hospital. I now have a giant bottle to use at home. It was expensive but worth it. Good luck!!

  8. Yep I’m right there with you. I was sleeved Mon May 14 and had such severe nausea that I couldn’t even keep down the tiniest sip of liquid. By Wed morning I finally felt semi human again and was released from the hospital. Nausea has almost completely disappeared and pain is tolerable. Every day gets better!! Welcome to the journey.

Hi I was sleeved 2/5 and had Migraine. My surgeon said headaches extremely common due to lack of sugar and food. When I was allowed something other than Water I had apple juice and coffee as I am a morning coffee drinker and knew missing my caffeine hit was contributing to Migraine. These helped take the edge off migraine, but it only really got better when I was given IV Dynastat. After that I was great and ready to go home on day 4 post op and have not even needed a paracetamol since.

That makes complete sense. My nurse also told me that my hormone levels could be off because my medications were slightly changed while I was in the hospital (48 hours). Another reason for headaches could be dehydration and as you mentioned lack of food. Hope you are still feeling well.

I was 5/15. Yesterday I was hating life and wondering if I'd made a horrible mistake but today I'm feeling somewhat better. I am just ready to go home - I traveled for surgery and want to be in my own bed!

AllyJonesVSG, once you get into your own bed you will feel 1000% better than you do now. Getting some quality rest will absolutely do you a world of good. I feel very fortunate that my husband and BFF are guiding me every step of the way as they have been through this stage already. My bit of advice for today...take it slow and gentle, you are healing and take any medications you have one pill at a time. Learned this the hard way this morning. A huge swing of Water and 4 pills taken at one time do not mix. We are all here to support you!!

I had my surgery on the 13th May. I’m home and on clear broth and Protein. This is a lot harder mentally than I anticipated. I am hoping joining this support group will give me a more positive outlook.

You are among friends! I can tell you firsthand that you are going to be amazing and you are going to have incredible results. My best friend was sleeved year and a half ago and she lost 100 pounds. My husband was sleeved 5 weeks ago and has already lost 54 pounds. Besides the weight-loss my husband has had so many wonderful successes… He’s no longer in pain 24 hours a day seven days a week, we don’t have to park in a handicapped spot at church anymore, he can walk reasonable distances without being breathless, etc. Everyone, of course, has a different experience. While my husband had absolutely no complications whatsoever I was in the hospital for two days because I couldn’t keep down the teeniest sip of Water without vomiting. Now that I’m home and resting I feel so much more human. I just had my very first “meal” of strained 98% fat free cream of broccoli Soup. It was soooo good!! Cheers friend!

Sleeved on 5/14... this is my first ever surgery so I am really not sure how well I am doing, although I still have pain, but not excruciating just uncomfortable.... I’m hoping this subsides within a few more days as I adjust and heal!

Hey Justin, my surgery date was the 14th too. It was also my very first surgery. I have an outrageous headache but for the most part am having bearable pain. Anyone else dealing with headaches post surgery?

  13. My surgery was Monday, May 14. The procedure itself was perfect but I ended up staying at the hospital until yesterday because I couldn’t keep even the tinest sip of liquids down. Thank God for IV’s!! My husband was sleeved 5 weeks ahead of me and my best friend was sleeved a year and a half ahead of me. They have been the most wonderful support system. Each day is better than the one before. I also love it that we can all support each other here. Each journey is different and great rewards are just around the corner.

  14. This is very real. My two very good friends and my husband have all had the surgery and each one of them has some kind of similar indicator. My one friend hiccups, my husband gets runny nose and I think that my other friend sneezes. I wonder if there’s any science behind us and if anyone’s tried to figure it out.

  15. liquid diet day 5!

Hello there April sleevers! My husband and I are on day 5 of our modified liquid diet and we are doing surprisingly well. Whoever would have thought that you could live off of 600-700 calories a day? It’s crazy that our bodies aren’t absolutely freaking out at this point. Guess this is a good sign for things to come. Have anyone else started this process yet?

  16. Wow! I feel so welcome already. Today is my first time posting as I’ve been waiting to find a group that I felt I could connect with. Thank you, thank you for welcoming me/us with open arms. I am so excited to be on this journey with the love of my life but also with all of you as we support each other through every step of this new endeavor.

My husband and I begin our WLS journey January 23 at our first bariatric visit. It was so nice to actually be treated like a “ normal human being” by our doctor/surgeon. There wasn’t the uncomfortable feeling of being incredibly overweight and someone looking down on you for it.

A little about us… I am 45 years old and my husband is 50 years old and we live in Atlanta, Georgia. We have two beautiful daughters age 15 and 11. We own our own business so that means that we’re together day in and day out thank God we are best friends as well as husband and wife!

Never had bariatric surgery even been on our radar prior to December 2017. We traveled to Michigan for the holidays and the process of getting through the airport security lines, etc. was excruciating for my husband. I didn’t think he’d be able to stand the hour to make it through the security line. Little did we know that was just the beginning of next challenges. After a short break we continued to the gate and by the time we got there he was so winded it took several minutes to catch his breath. It was one of the most frightening and eye-opening experiences of our marriage.

While we were visiting family my husband ran into a gentleman who had had the sleeve surgery and lost 180 pounds. The gentleman told my husband that he had not felt this good since high school. That was really a game changer for us.

We have two good friends who have had weight-loss surgery and were very successful but we really never saw ourselves going that route. My husband has several medical conditions including sleep apnea, cardiomyopathy, high triglycerides and several debilitating ailments (back, knee, quad muscle, etc.). His quality-of-life is diminishing right before our eyes. Waiting isn’t an option anymore.

We have read many stories of couples splitting up after WLS when one took the plunge but the other didn’t. On the flip side, we have heard that couples embark on the journey together have a very good success rate which is why we want to walk hand in hand each step of the way.

  17. My husband and I are both scheduled for gastric sleeve surgery April 9. Yep, both of us on the same day!! We’ve been married for 18 years, we own our own business together and feel like this is just another adventure in our lives. I’ve read many posts and feel like I connect with y’all for many reasons. We also live in Georgia and haven’t told many people as family members tend to be critical and not supportive in others aspects of our lives. Our insurance policy does not cover bariatric surgery so we are self pay. This is good and bad. Good in that we are on the super fast track but bad because we don’t have access to the months of training provided as part of the ins requirements.
