Pound of Cure: My personal experience
I must say I have not had any artificial protein in weeks. I get all my protein from natural healthy food. I have totally switched to natural organic (when I can) wholesome foods. Nothing artificial or packages or processed. The way I feel is amazing. I have not had one dumping episode and really don't see myself having one. I have been able to stay strong and frankly just want any of that junk. If you know exactly what your eating, and I mean you know what it is an how it was prepared. No processed packaged JUNK I would think you would be fine. I do even eats fruits in raw form and smoothies and do not have any issues. I LOVE spinach, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, shredded coconut (that I keep in the freezer) and a smidge of plain yogurt. A lot of the time I leave the yogurt out. Don't be afraid to play around just eat what your body is telling you it wants. (unless its screaming Mcdonald's LOL)

Setting HEALTHY & REALISTIC goals
Once I started going to the gym is when I started my weekly goals. I just question myself as to where I want to end up. In my head my goal would be 150. Any thing more than that is a dream. Its just so hard to image that its possible. That lingering doubt is killing me.

Setting HEALTHY & REALISTIC goals
So now that I am going to gym 5 days a week. Getting back into normal life and not living off liquids. Learning how to eat all over again. Lately I have been torn on what exactly I want my end goal to look like. Am I choosing a weight range? Setting a target healthy BMI? Not exactly sure what I want to strive for at the moment. Each week I am striving to hit a certain number on the scale. But that is the extent of my goals at the moment. When did you figure out where you wanted to end up after all your hard work? How did you narrow down where you wanted to end up?

How do you know when your full?
Post op 7 wks. (RYN) When I know I am full its a few different symptoms. I start to get a pain in my chest. A not interested feeling, almost a turn off from what I was eating. And burps that keep to be stuck. I still eat pretty soft foods. I try to avoid solid or heavy foods. I don't like how they make me feel and I am ok with my diet and so is my surgeon. I don't normally throw up anymore but there are certain foods I've tried a few different times post op and I just cant eat them.

Pound of Cure: My personal experience
It was suggested that I start a thread on this topic seeing as I do have first hand experience. This is the founder of The Pound of Cure, Dr. Matthew Weiner. The link is to his Youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/user/DrMatthewWeiner My story started about 4 years ago I would say when I chose to seek out BS (Bariatric Surgery). I first reached out to a different clinic in my state. But I ended up never scheduling my surgery through them. THANK GOD! Ok now fast forward to January 2018. I got on Youtube and started watching videos and doing more research. That is where I found my saving grace! LITERALLY! I reached out to his office and scheduled my consultation. From my very first phone call into the office its been nothing but a positive learning motivating life changing experience. Every person I came into contact with made an impact. They are so helpful. My first time meeting Dr. Weiner I really didn't know what to expect with only seeing him on Youtube. But I will tell you that he is the same exact person you see in the videos. It is very easy to talk to him and open up to him about questions or concerns. I had to do 6 months of a pre op diet required by my insurance, so we started right off with ways to start changing my diet and how I really look at food. He is very encouraging and prints out step by step suggestions for your entire process. His idea behind Pound of cure really helped me loose 20 lbs before my surgery. If I was struggling with areas of my diet he had many different suggestions on things I can try. You can tell he really speaks from experience. He would ask me what my trouble areas were and gave me different options to try which I wouldn't have tried before. When eating a pound of veggies a day was first put in play it was quite daunting. I enjoy veggies and I thought I ate enough of them but quickly realized that I just needed to tweak a couple things. I feel like my taste buds have changed a few different times along my journey. Even this past week I have noticed changes. For my surgery with Dr. Weiner. That took place at Oakland Regional Hospital in Southfield MI. Dr. Weiner is part owner of the hospital. EVERYONE there was great. I went home the next day and did great until about 4 days out. My taste buds changed and couldn't take in ANY protein. So he told me about his smoothies and I was able to do that for a while until I could take in more food. I also had problems with my vitamins. The taste was absolutely horrible. So he switched me to the capsules. He listened to my struggles and made one suggestion that helped drastically. He really knows and understands what bariatric patients are going through. This program has changed my mindset on food. I now eat for necessity and fuel for the day. I know everyone has different results from the surgery and their program but I do not feel hunger. I most definitely feel when I am full. I've seen posts that his program leads more towards a vegan lifestyle but not completely. I will say that is true. I had a horrible time with cheese for instance. The crack of all foods right. Well now I no longer eat cheese and if I do I use vegan cheese. He even suggested recipes to make our own. I would never have started eating beans if it wasn't for him. And my new tummy LOVES beans. Those around me don't but hey I have to eat what I can eat. I can most certainly get by with out eating animal protein and I think anyone after surgery could. I know for me I have chosen to not eat animal protein if I don't have to. I've had chicken for dinner for example and that next morning I felt completely different. I just knew right away what it was. You have to eat what makes you feel good. With his program I get by drinking ZERO artificial protein. No shakes, no powder. I cant stomach the taste. Even the unflavored is a lie. It is flavored. Greens and beans give me life I know every program is different and there are those people that strictly abide by their surgeons word and that is fine. That is clearly also what I do. I am not suggesting you do anything different unless your body is telling you that you need to change something. If something isn't working for you WHY NOT seek out alternative options. Only you know your body. Only you know how you feel and what things feel like in your new tummy. Go with your gut. No pun intended I am only speaking my experience and what I went through. If you are in the Michigan area and are looking or someone you know is looking into BS I would say for sure reach out to his office. If you've had complications from a previous BS again I would for sure reach out to his office. He also fixes previous botched surgeries or those with complications.

Pound of cure
Yeah I am still around. Other than some random posts on my activity page. I go through the forums to see if there is anything I feel passionate about, enough to post on but life is crazy right now. All the kids are in sports, I'm coaching, work, gym, chores, LIFE! Plus I have had a bad cold for a week now. But my journey is still going strong. Still loosing. And no complications How are you doing?

Pound of cure
Dr. Weiner was my surgeon. And his whole program has literally changed my life and the way I look at life and food. I have been in my opinion extremely successful and have not struggled with his program. His insight and how he can sit and talk with you and give you so many different options has been so helpful!

Being wasteful.......
My aunt is now wanting to get the surgery done. Using my surgeon too ! Told her I would give it all to her. Great products just didn't work for me.

Being wasteful.......
That protein water was the worst!!!! My fiancé drank them just to get them gone but even he struggled.

Being wasteful.......
I am taking Bariatric Advantage. I bought the chewy bites in black cherry. But am now on capsules. I am going to post on my bariatric groups on FB that I have these and find them a new home.

Being wasteful.......
At first I was splitting my protein with coffee but now cant even drink that. I was a big coffee drinker before. and now even trying different brands and flavors I cant do that either. I kind of like my taste aversion seeing as it keeps my diet simple and I don't have to have that mental fight of what will I eat today. I stick with the few things I can eat and like. And that is all I really crave. I used to drink Propel because just plain water was hard for me to drink but now that is all I want to drink. I crave water! I have recently started to like drinking milk which I didn't before so now I am on the hunt for the best milk to drink. I only have maybe 1/4 cup if that but still want it to count. I have tried masked that "off" taste but I HATE and cant handle spice. lol. No hot sauce here I would die HAHA. This week has been better about waste. I made some beans and ham (without the ham really) soup in the crock pot this weekend. I just used a couple ham hocks with my beans and lots of veggies. and I have ate that all week for lunch and some days supper. I don't think I will have to throw that much out really so that is def a step in the right direction.

Being wasteful.......
They are all open. So unfortunately no. I did mention something to my doc office that is they know someone who is having trouble affording these things I will donate them. Just hard to say if someone will even want them seeing they are open. But literally maybe once scoop gone out of each of the 4 full containers I have. and maybe less than 5 vitamins out of a bag of 60. :( o well we live and we learn right.

Being wasteful.......
So I am not 5 weeks post op RNY. I didn't realize just how much food and $$ I would waste. And to a point it is starting to get to me. Any one else having this issue? I originally bought my vitamins after sampling them pre op. Now post op I CANT stand them and have now switched to capsules. (By my doctors recommendation) So right there is 60$ throw away from my first bag of vitamins that I can not take. I bought my protein powder and shakes before hand also. After I tried and drank them for a couple weeks. Loved them pre op. Now post op I CAN NOT STAND ANY artificial protein. I am strictly getting protein from food. So that is another 140$ wasted on full containers of protein that I cant drink. (even the unflavored IS flavored to me) Making food is where I feel I am wasting also. I have been doing a lot of been soups and chili's and throw everything in crock pot and bam I have food. But its so much food and I am not eating all that much I am throwing also away. I had one batch that I did freeze but when I thawed it I could not eat it. Tasted off and I did not like it. So the extra food I throw away that's also throwing away $. I get my new tummy cant take in that much and I will be wasting food. I just did not realize just how much that would be.....

Two day countdown
For anyone that did body shots. What all did you focus on capturing. I am thinking of taking one say in a favorite outfit that I wear now and then some in bra and panties. Capture both. Then in a few months take photos in the same outfit to see the changes.

The last supper! Food funerals anyone?
I must say I have had some food funerals for some food but have not been "last suppering". I start my 1 week pre op diet tomorrow and tonight I am going to dinner at one of our favorite restaurant's. Today is my last day of freedom. This last weekend was my last time grocery shopping for our current lifestyle. Lots of lasts this week and its been emotional in a way. I am ready to say good bye to this life and be a healthier happy me. Just letting go of EVERYTHING has been kind of tough. I want to take some photos so I can look back and see the changes. Does any one else have body issues to the point you don't want to take before photos. I know I need to but idk if I am embarrassed or what it is.....

Liquid Phase
Have been nervous about being nauseous. I hope I don't deal with this a whole lot and if I do it doesn't last long
-
Liquid Phase
I CAN NOT STAND THE PP SHAKES! So that is what made me question the waters. I will have to stick with my propel I like and add my unflavored protein to it. I have chosen to go with UNjury protein shakes and powder. Which are amazing. They have a chicken soup flavor protein powder and it is so good. Will be using that for broth. I've even made a batch of veggie soup that I have waiting in the freezer for me to blend up once I get to puree. Just trying to come up with ideas that maybe I haven't thought of.
-
Liquid Phase
I most def plan on doing both. Has anyone tried the premier protein waters? Any opinions?

Liquid Phase
Favorite go to food/drinks during liquid phase. And go.....

How much time off from work?
I am taking a total of 12 days off work. But I have a desk job so that I think plays a part. You could always go back with restrictions if you have a job that you had to be on your feet or do any bending and lifting.
