    My god......what have I done?

I totally get that. I had so many concern and it’s such a major surgery that I wondered if I should go through with it. I am only six weeks out, and I’m not going to lie - there were 2.5 weeks where I was seriously, seriously low in my mood and energy. But then I just naturally turned a corner in both areas and I am so much happier and have so much more energy and I go to the gym and do cardio and really love the way it feels. I was NEVER like that before! And this experience is true for the overwhelming majority of WLS patients I’ve talked to. You have to be realistic; this surgery is only a tool - it is absolutely NOT a cure for your eating problems. It is imperative to seek help either from a psychiatrist/therapist, etc, or from OA, or anywhere where you can address the psychological issue that accompanies being obese. But again, I’m only six weeks out and I know this is the best decision I’ve ever made for myself. Best of luck!

    Artificial sweeteners

I hate that the nuts recommend so many artificial sweeteners. I am in a recovery program for compulsive overeating and as part of my plan, I do not eat any artificial sweeteners. Well - when protein jello was the only thing I could have for two days after surgery I did - and hated it. For liquids I used unsweetened vanilla coconut milk and plain isopure protein powder. It was like drinking a slightly sweet glass of creamy milk. (But way better than. Cow’s milk which I cannot stand.) there are a ton of options to avoid sweeteners in the post-liquid phase! Let me know if you want suggestions!

    My god......what have I done?

I felt the exact same way. I watched a ton of YouTube videos of people who had wls and they all mentioned feeling the regret in the first couple of weeks. And it’s not just a small feeling of regret that you can get over by watching a funny movie or taking a walk. I was giving myself extreme love and self care, forcing myself to take walks even when I felt too down, etc., and still spent two weeks in what I would consider one of the lowest depressions of my life. The fog is slowly lifting and it does get WAY better when you can start having more substantial food items and not just broth and water. It WILL get better. I identify so strongly with what you describe. It’s a mourning process for many people. food has always been my best friend and my comfort, and with this surgery I have chosen to kill my best friend. It’s an actual time of grieving and don’t let anyone make light of that for you. Hugs.
  5. I was actually concerned about this as well! I could (and can) drink a fair amount more than they say you’ll be able to. I talked to the doc about this thinking that I had stretched my pouch or something and they told me some people will always have to sip, and others will be able to take larger, normal sized drinks or even gulp. The thing with doing that in the beginning is you wanna go a little slower with the intake because you don’t wanna overdo it at first, until you know exactly what your stomach can handle. So I’d recommend spending some time being careful and getting to know what is comfortable for you in terms of drinking, but once that is established - drink freely! I DEF cannot drink normal sized drinks when I’ve eaten. (Plus we aren’t supposed to - but I’ve made the mindless mistake a few tones. Def paid for it in belching and an uncomfortable feeling though.) You’re doing great!
  6. I’d add colace, which is a stool softener. And make sure you’re staying hydrated!
  7. Took me almost two weeks to feel completely normal. The incision pain is totally normal at this stage. Have they talked to you about “splinting” your belly when you get up or have to move? Holding a pillow firmly across your belly helps to support the muscles and incisions when having to get out of bed or get up (which is painful). Beyond that - utilize the pain meds they gave you and let your body REST! Walking is great and you should do it but also make sure to sleep! Best way to heal, IMHO. You’re doing great!
  8. Hi all! I’m 2 week’s post-op roux-en-y and have started my puréed diet. The sample plan said to have one scrambled egg for breakfast, so I did, and chewed very carefully. It’s now four hours later and I still feel extremely full, like I couldn’t possibly eat anything else (like the protein shake I was supposed to have two hours ago.) Has anyone else had this experience? I started drinking water about two hours after the egg and it almost made it more uncomfortable. Helpful advice appreciated!
