  1. I actually gained right after surgery. I just kept walking and did it as often as I could. At first I did 4, 15 minute walks then 4,, 20 minute walks .. I just pushed a little more each day. My surgery was in April. I finally started losing in May. My doctor told me my body was in shock. Keep moving, it will come. I started at 282 and today I am 199.8. I am 56. It is possible.

    Sushi

I eat sushi. I tend to not eat all of the rice because I need more protein. I also need to be careful with seaweed, I have difficulty swallowing it as it tends to stick in my throat.

any sleevers in their late 50's

I'm 56. My beginning weight was 282. I had 6 months of supervised diet, 5 meetings with psychologist and surgery on 4/5/18. Today I am 201. I have finally learned food is fuel, not entertainment. I feel so much better and am so much more active. I have had a few stalls. I realized I need to drink half my weight of water in ounces every day to lose weight (100 oz.). I have also changed up my exercise from walking and the gym to now swimming. I have a swim coach that is teaching me proper form and he is kicking my body into shape. Best decision of my life!!!!

    Plateau of week one

Some people get backed up so they think they are not losing.

    Needing Support

My doctor just had me add an extra protein shake at night when I still felt hungry. Talk to your surgeon.

    Plateau of week one

This will happen. Keep drinking your water and pay attention to your bowel habits. Also if you just had surgery, you will be swollen. I tend to stall and then lose weight and stall again and lose weight. I've noticed that I lose inches, but my weight doesn't always go down. Another member also mentioned to get a scale that measures your body fat too.

The Yo-Yo of LIFE & SLEEVE

Going to talk with a psychologist has been the best decision in my whole program. Best of luck with you.
  8. I found that on some snacks it was the spice I was missing, not necessarily the fired food. I put chipotle tabasco in my chicken soup, my eggs and in ground meat. The spice makes it so much more flavorful. I am enjoying it more now and easing my cravings.
  9. At a theme park, you may tend to do more walking and physical exertion than you normally do. I found I need to hydrate the day before and then eat a little more protein and good carbs while at the theme park. I was getting light headed so I drank extra water and also went and ate a salad with shrimp at Disneyland. Before I could eat lettuce, I just had a shrimp cocktail. You can make wise choices. This is not an excuse to eat all the food you see.

    Poop

I add benefiber to my water. It is flavorless and comes in single serving packets.

    Diaphragm pain

You are probably drinking too fast. Try sipping on ice chips to slow down your sips or change the temperature of the water. After surgery you are swollen for a week or two and it takes a little more time for the fluid to go down. You are kind of like a clogged pipe right now. It will get better, but remember tiny sips go down easier.

    On to Purees, suggestions?

I pureed vegetable soup with chicken or ground beef. I also added chipotle tabasco to liven up the flavor.

    Weight stalls

Thanks Matt Z. I always learn so much from your posts. I think this will help my current slow crawl that I am in. I appreciate all of your advice and guidance.
  14. Easier said then done. Hang in there.

    Vitamin help please!

I'm enjoying Barimelts. They dissolve quickly and taste like sweet tarts. Call them and they will send samples.

    Almost 7 years since sleeve

Welcome back! I'm sure it's not easy, but good for you for coming back. You can do this!

    Scales

I'm with you too. As I lose weight I'm feeling new pains. I told my husband that maybe I'm no longer being held together by all my fat. As I move more, the pain is decreasing. Being overweight gave me a pretty good slouch. I am seeing a spine doctor that is helping me to regain my posture too.
  18. My sisters were very supportive of me and are proud of my weight loss, but as I continue, they now seem to want to feed me. Luckily I'm not near them every day. I think they are used to me being the fat sister and now I'm the same weight and still losing is making them uncomfortable. They kept trying to get me to eat and have a drink with them. I took the glass of wine and pretended to sip just to shut them up. Later, I poured it out and they didn't even notice. This is my journey and I am worth it. I keep telling myself, food is fuel. I am not going to sabotage myself.
  19. Thank you. I really love the support I get on this site.
  20. I added unflavored protein to vegetable and tomato soup in the beginning. I also added chipotle tabasco to my chicken broth. This added flavor without being spicy. If you can find them, I live on sugar free big sticks, they're better than popsicles. They are plain wrapped in a clear plastic bag usually in the bottom of the freezer section. I have found them at Vons and Stater Brothers. They help me get my fluids in and satisfy any craving.
  21. If I concentrate on putting my spoon down and chewing every bite completely, it slows down my eating and I don't get nauseous. This is difficult when eating with others because we all tend to eat quickly.
  22. I was very nauseous for 2 weeks afterwards and then it stopped almost overnight. I only get nauseous now if I eat too fast. Remember your stomach is healing. Take things slowly and sip. I did better having ice cubes and sipping as the ice melted. It gets SO much better. Hang in there.

    I feel scared and ashamed...

Great advice @Matt Z. You are not alone in this journey. Life happens. I was terrified myself, but then my doctor told me I had higher odds of dying if I continued my previous path and did not have the surgery. I was more than twice what I should be weight wise. I've now lost more than half of my weight and feel so much better. I am no longer diabetic and almost off my high blood pressure meds. Last week I swam in a lake and went kayaking. I would not have been able to do this last year. Take your life back. YOU are worth the time and energy.

    Compression Band

My hospital gave me one right after surgery. I never liked it and preferred to just hold my stomach when I walked. I'm only 5'3" and it never fit me correctly and would roll up and down.
  25. After surgery, I switched over to Unjury Protein powders. It is a whey protein isolate especially formulated for bariatric surgery as is better absorbed by your new sleeve. I was on Premiere protein prior to surgery, but it felt to thick. I enjoy their unflavored and classic chocolate the best. They have a starter kit which is perfect for your first order. It's a sample pack of flavors so you can see which you like. They sell online or at some pharmacies.
