  3. Hi! I live in Tampa, FL but I will be getting my surgery in Cali, Colombia on April 24. So many awesome tips on this forum

Congratulations and welcome!! Keep us posted on your journey we love to see how everyone is doing! It’s so amazing to have people from all over the world with the same passion and journey. I’m in Jacksonville, Fl for those who don’t know and my surgery will be at Memorial Hospital. I opened up the April/May forum because my surgery date is expected end of April or early May. I can’t wait to get on here and let everyone know my true date soon as I found out. I’m vlogging my journey on YouTube for anyone interested (just copy and paste url in browser) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDS8UYKi9Wu1__0j9qJ8rA Welcome Welcome Welcome we are all so amazingly fabulous for our decisions to change our life!

  4. oh, I cant wait to be sleeved! I have been doing a tremendous amount of personal research on the topic of Laparoscopic sleeve surgery. I am learning that surgery is not the hard part. It is the after care that is the real mountain to climb. I understand the surgery analytically. It all makes sense. I have watched about 5 surgeries online on YouTube. My anxiety has dissolved. I am prepared mentally for the liquid stage and the soft stage. I understand that there will be a period when I will only have liquids, and I am ok with that. Actually I read that I can have sugar free Jello along with sugar free juices. I will need to sip the juice slowly. I love cranberry juice and they carry unsweetened at the store I go to. Jello is considered a liquid, that is my take on it anyway. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I’m excited for you! I Think we all have done our fair share of research and some lol. Now it’s just the waiting game and preparing. As much as I think I’m ready I’m sure there will be some stumbling blocks along the way but I know all our journeys will be different. That’s part of the reason why I vlog on YouTube because Id like to go back to see where I am now and where I’m going to be a year from now. Best wishes

  5. Hey BeckyVSG2b! I did have a private room after surgery. Which doctor is doing your surgery? Good luck and let me know if you have any questions at all!

I had my gastric sleeve surgery in Jacksonville, FL. It was with Dr. Abbas at Memorial Hospital.

I’m having my surgery at Memorial in May. I wanted to know if you can tell me if they provide private recovery rooms after surgery? I’ve heard some hospitals have you sharing rooms with other Bariatric patients.

  7. I had my surgery March 5th, I vlogged the day of, the day after and yesterday. Today is a crazy emotional day. It's a lot man.

  8. Hi jaz I'm new on here too. I finished the process for the insurance in Jan. Insurance approved me for surgery Feb.28th. Received a call from surgeon today and he has me down for surgery May 10th. Excited to start this journey with you all.

Congratulations on your approval!! I know you are excited! Join our April/May group as well we have a lot of people with surgery around that time. May 10th is my anniversary so I’m hoping mine is a few days before or even after lol keep us posted on your journey

  9. Ok, so here's the thing. You have posted about this before in many forums and have been given advice on how this is unhealthy after surgery. You post a lot in other forums all asking about ice cream. In reality, in order for this surgery to work you are going to have to change your lifestyle including exercise and eating habits that have caused you to be where you are today.
Where are you in your journey? Are you just beginning, have you met with a few doctors and completed an initial evaluation, or are you close to surgery. Most of us have followed diets, exercise programs, and prescription medications for weight loss and this is our last option.
Maybe you should try changing your eating habits before committing to such a surgery. The reason for this is because this surgery is just a tool. If you do not follow your doctor's advice on eating you can put your life in danger. At this rate it seems like milkshakes might lead to other unhealthy eating habits. If you break your post op diet you could tear stitches causing your stomach acid to leak into your body resulting in emergency surgery and possibly death.
Is fast food really worth this?
Like I said, many of us have been through many courses, regimens, clearances, labs, nutritional and exercise programs. This is not something we would be doing if we could do it on our own. If you have already been through some of the education in correspondence to this surgery then it is foolish for you to be contemplating taking these risks post op.
There are so many people out there that would give anything to have this surgery but either cannot afford it or cannot get the insurance clearance. It is not right to take advantage and throw away the opportunity that you currently have.
You will be right back in your weight situation if you do not change your lifestyle now. That's a waste of money if you ask me!!

You are right this is a very serious process and the effort that we are putting ourselves through to go through it is the real deal! We have to give support to each other and in some situations tough love. Just because the sacrifices are nothing to play with and the amount of money, time and emotional energy itself is a lot. There are some forums specifically for those who are seeking information or the interest alone in the surgery and that may be a better place to find the answers to the questions being ask. Not to say we won’t help but this one is more so for those who are already in the program and are having surgery around the same time (April/May) so we can share our journey and support each other. However, with all that being said I recommend her and anyone seeking information to contact your local Bariatric Center and go to a seminar these are no cost to you. They are set up to help you understand the basics. Good luck to everyone and I hope this is something we don’t have to continue to address. Let’s continue to support and keep it positive :)

  10. Well, I had my one month check-in with the nutritionist today and in just over four weeks I'm down 13 pounds. She'd initially told me to limit my carbs to just the morning except for veggies with lunch and dinner, so I pretty started doing the Keto diet on my own and apparently it's working quite well. She told me to just keep doing what I'm doing, come back in a month and by the end of April we'll be ready to schedule the surgery. It's starting to feel real...

Yayyyyy you better do it!!!!! It’s definitely getting real!!

  11. Hey Becky,
I appreciate your advice on Premier Protein. I went to Sam's Club today and bought the Premier Protein Shakes.

I hate Protein Powder because no matter how you mix it thry still have a gritty consistency. I heard the shakes are creamier and not gritty.

Sams Club sells the 12 pack of shakes for $16.66. I bought the following:
    4 banana and Cream
    4 Oreo and Cream
    1 Peaches and Cream
    1 Strawberries and Cream

At 2 shakes a day this covers me for 60 days and gives me at least 60 grams of Protein a day meeting my minimum.

My surgery is April 18 and my liquid diet technically does not start until April 6 however I'm starting a diet of 2 shakes and 1 low carb high Protein meal now February 28. This way if I give in I can pick back up and succeed 2 weeks pre op.

I also want to lose as much as I can pre op so I can have an easier recovery.

My HW was 235 and CW is 220. Lets see if I can get under 200 before surgery. I'm 5 feet tall on the dot.

Heyyyy you’re welcome!! Glad you picked them
Up they are definitely great Meal Replacements. I have one for Breakfast because I normally skip breakfast and it was a good option to keep from overeating at lunch. I’m sooooo happy for you!! Your surgery date is super close! I’m thinking like you...preparing myself as much as possible!

  12. My surgery date is set for April 6th in Mexico. I know many people are skeptical about Medical Tourism but I have done a lot of research and am really excited to be taking this step!

I think you are making the best choice for you and if I had to do the same I would. I’ve seen a lot of great success stories coming out of Mexico. I’m super excited for you. We all have the same goal...to be healthy and happy!! I can’t wait to hear about your experience:)
