  1. So in effort to reach my daily protein goal (80 grams) without having to drink a shake everyday I have been looking for alternative protein sources. Today I tried a bag of Quest chips in cheddar/sour cream. 21 grams of Protein~130 calories~4 grams of carbs. I thought they were pretty good. The flavor wasn’t bad and they kinda taste like baked chips that are off brand. ? I would eat them again and they helped with my desire to crunch. I was able to eat the whole bag in 1 sitting so I’m pretty sure they are sliders so I’ll have to watch it. I thought it would make a great on the go snack and the bump in protein (listed as milk isolate and whey) it what I need to meet my goals. Anyone tried these? Is there any reason they would not make a good replacement for a protein drink besides maybe missing some vitamins and minerals? The chips actually have less calories than my protein shakes.
  2. Haven’t watched the video yet but I will. I love me some Dr. V. I tried explaining to someone once, I have no idea what normal feels like. I wore a size 24 women’s in the 6th grade. I’ve already lost more weight now than I ever remember losing at one time. My surgeon has a goal for me but my own goal will still leave me obese and in my mind if I could reach 250# I would be a success!! Still obese but not giving a damn. I know that’s how I feel now and maybe I’ll feel different later. I’m scared to get excited about anything I’ve lost so far because it is no where near enough. I also know it’s only been 3 months total and 4 weeks post op and that it’s going to take time. This process is already weird to me - I don’t like my ankles touching because I can feel the bones, my wedding set is loose on my finger and I’m starting to see the veins beneath my skin more. Very weird but totally neat at the same time.
  3. I had never heard of a food salvage store so I googled it. So neat! I’m going to check one of these out. Thx!
  4. Thanks all! Still having problems getting all of my protein in through just food and always looking for alternatives to the drinks. I eat high protein foods but can eat so little it doesn’t work. Now my protein guidelines go up to 80 and I was barely getting 60 some days.
  5. Once we can eat regular foods can protein bars be substituted for the shakes? If so, any recommendations for high protein, low carb bars that taste good and are less than 200ish calories? Thx!
  6. Isopure had a chalky aftertaste. If there is a vitamin shoppe near you they sell individual bottles so you can try them out. They are a tempting way to get protein in but the taste was not for me.
  7. I started back with aqua aerobics a couple of weeks ago. Looking at joining a gym for weights and cardio in a few weeks. Your current weight is my goal
  8. I have a ninja bullet that I used at first. Then I realized if I just chew really well I can purée it in my mouth
  9. I was doing premier but after surgery they did not taste the same. In a pinch I will drink one but I have to break it up over the day too. Eventually I will finish all the ones I have left over but it’s going to be slow. I’ll probably use them when I’m m running late to work or something. I have strawberry, peach, banana and cookies n cream. Sounds good and they were but I don’t like them now. Trying to get my husband to drink them
  10. I checked my journal and it looks like I’ve been consistently getting over 500 calories since 3/26. I hate protein drinks but do force myself to try to get in 1 each day. I use a whole cup of 2% milk (don’t like 1%) with the unjury protein powder plus a bit of peanut butter powder. That’s about 250 calories alone. So it’s easy for me to get another 250 plus each day.
  11. Actually that should have said 500-800. Most I’ve gotten is 748. Typically I’m in the 600s. Also I’m on soft/regular food.
  12. 3/14 surgery- not sure how much I’ve lost. My next pre-op appointment is on the 16th. I’m trying to only weigh every few weeks. I don’t want to have to think about stalls. I’m getting between 500-800 calories a day, protein, vitamins and most of my water. If I’m not losing weight then it just isn’t in the cards for me. At this point I’ve going through extreme measures to be healthy and I don’t want to obsess about my weight anymore. I know I am and will continue to lose, period.
  13. I’m taking 4 weeks and would take more if I could. It’s not the pain for me it’s the learning to feed myself again. I’m using this time to make sure I’m not rushing my meals and not drinking and all that good stuff. I still don’t have a good grasp on how much I should eat and I’m currently in the mushy stage. I had earlier problems getting protein in because the protein drinks started to make me feel sick. I have a desk job but it is mentally demanding. I took time to focus on me for a change in hopes to get on track to be successful with this new tool. If you can take the time, I would take as much as possible. Also eating less than 500 calories right now had me wanting to take naps. I have more energy now I think in part to the vitamins and being able to eat a little food. So I’m slowly moving away from my daily nap.
  14. I did and 2 weeks post op still do. I’m just so happy things are moving that I don’t care. Earlier on I was only consuming liquids and also I think some of the medications I take have come into play as well.
  15. My comment was not out of the blue. I’ve been commenting since I joined, guess it just depends on the topic. I’m an app user so I don’t even see an option to fill out a profile - thought that was odd when I joined but it didn’t bother me. Not ready for a ticker anyway.. my weight will go unspoken until I hit my first goal. Fortunately things are progressing well that it shouldn’t be too long.
  16. Funny. I saw that episode and thought it was staged. The surgeon was so full of drama, I don’t like his “character”. I also found it odd that her candy stash was always brand new unopened bags. I would think some of them should have been open. Just seemed pretty staged to me. The the girl that ate at plate full of sandwiches - we never saw her eat them all. I always wonder about shows like this. I mean do people really sit and eat 2 large pizzas in a sitting? Based on stomach size how do they do that?
  17. I’m having a bit of a time judging how much I can eat. I typically try for 1/4 -1/2 of a cup. Even then it really just depends on what I’m eating. I haven’t had any issues with the types of food thank goodness. I’ve tried Soups, ricotta bake, meatballs (chicken), mashed cauliflower, yogurts. Today I had my first experience overeating by mistake. I tried some mushed avocado with tzatziki sauce. It was delicious and I didn’t even eat half of the avocado but I got the bloated can’t burp and wanna vomit feeling for about an hour! ? it was awful. This really is a learning experience. Trying to get in calories and Protein from actual food when you can barely eat.
  18. Great ideas! Thanks! I didn’t even think about things like mug cakes and stuff. I’m not far out enough to try that but when I am I will try it. Good saves so I don’t have to throw it out.
  19. Love this! [emoji177]
  20. I heard that the 30 mins before is bs. Very conflicting because on one hand water supposedly flows right through our stomachs but on the other hand we are told not to drink it because it will cause us to feel too full or push out the protein in our stomachs too fast. Which one is it? I think maybe the truth lies somewhere in between. I think a few small sips before eating on an empty stomach doesn’t matter. I think drinking a full glass of water and immediately starting to eat is a bad idea. I don’t think water needs 30 minutes to pass through our stomachs but I would give it at least a few minutes. There are so many opinions and misinformation regarding WLS aftercare. At the end of the day I think we all just need to do what works for us. Oh and eat protein first.
  21. I’ve tried this - I have Unjury Strawberry Sorbet and mix it with Mio lemonade. The strawberry has a bad after taste and it’s hard to get down. I’ve ordered the Nectar sample pack.... fingers crossed. Wish I could donate protein products that I ended up not liking. Such a waste.
  22. I may try this. I love my tomato soup and if it taste cheesy that’s even better. Today I had soft scrambled eggs with cheese. Ate the equivalent of 1 egg. It was delicious:) Not enough protein though. Today has been a rough day. I just don’t want anything high protein. Mixed some chocolate premier protein in with some no sugar added hot chocolate. It was ok.
  23. Yay!! Just told my hubby that I weigh less now than any other time since we’ve been married
  24. Hot dang! Just got the ok from my NUT to start puréed foods! Here I come ricotta bake and tuna/chicken salad. I’m hoping to only need 1 shake a day and get the rest of my protein from actual food. Let’s see if my baby stomach agrees with this
