Fat gives calories, but once your essential fatty acids are accounted for, you don't need more. (Same with protein.. 4 meals of 30g each is about all you can digest for the amino acids..the rest is just calories).
Carbs are where you get your Vitamins, minerals, Fiber. And you can't get too much of those.
Fluff... Meryline is basically at goal and can handle an increased carb load (she needs to get her nutrition up). I wouldn't give myself or someone else the same advice necessarily.
When I run into a goal meal I can't fit all in at once, I eat what I can, then return to finish it an hour later. Mery.. you can do that with your oatmeal.
Increasing fat in the short term is fine.. just have a plan on working towards getting those carbs up. The more carbs you have (within reason), the more efficiently your body can use your Protein. At the moment you may be using protein for energy instead of repair.

So my nut wants me at 50% Protein. Because of that my carbs will automatically stay low. I'm somewhere between 50-100g a day, all depending.
I haven't had any carb restrictions since surgery except sugar really.

    Hello,
Relatively new here! I’m two weeks post op and down 26 lbs —- feeling great!
However, I can no longer stomach Protein Shakes. The thought of them make me want to gag! 🤮
Do any of you have suggestions for flavorless Protein? I’ve been drinking Isopure Water, but even those flavors are a bit much.
    Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I’m 1 week post op today as well! Feeling good, very little pain. However I agree, feeling weak at times and constipated. Have you had that? Solutions? [emoji30]
I’m on full liquid for 3 weeks, but starting to feel hunger. Maybe not physical hunger, but mental hunger? Prepping dinner for my husband and children, wishing I could partake? The mental part has been the hardest for me. Have you tried any foods? Are you getting al our Protein in? I was thinking maybe scrambled egg? I have my post op appointment on Friday.

Hi everyone! I am 5 days post op from my sleeve and have been thinking about Dr. Weiner's long term nutrition goals that he gives his patients. I know I am a long way out but I would love some opinions from those of you who are WLS veterans.
I know that my practice, as well as many/most others really stress the importance of high high Protein diets and protein first. If you have watched Dr Weiner's videos or read his book, you know that he is more of a believer in lots of veggies, fruits, seeds, nuts and legumes and lean proteins-poultry and fish-he's not a beef fan. His recommended protein levels aren't as high as what my practice instructs, or what I have seen on this forum. His way of eating feels more natural to me, maybe even healthier. I totally understand the role of protein in our systems, and I also understand the importance of veggies and the other things he encourages.
Now, I know that it's important to follow the diets given by our nutritionist, but I can't help but feel that eating protein first leaves very little room for veggies and other whole foods. Therefore robbing our bodies of vital nutrients that Vitamins can't provide.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Why shouldn't you be hungry? You're, very literally, starting to starve.
I went on a rant about this idea of "head hunger".
If you've eaten a nice meal of chicken breast and veggies...but you desperately still WANT a cheeseburger and fries...that's "head hunger."
Needing more fuel...and having physiological signs that you need more fuel...is actual real hunger. And YES lots and lots of bariatric patients suffer it when their calorie demands are high (healing) and their intake is dangerously low (first few weeks after surgery).
Many people suffer nausea...that eliminates hunger. So, they beleive that no one else feels hunger.
But lots of us don't suffer any nausea, and for us hunger can be overwhelming until our diets open up to more realistic amounts of calories.
I could have eaten my own leg off a week after surgery...I was THAT hungry. You're not alone:)
When more foods opened up to me and my caloric intake got to be about 1000 calories a day, I felt wonderful...no more hunger.
    Hang in there...it gets better.

have you had a medical work up lately? I'd be concerned about things like diabetes if I was drinking a lot and still thirsty.
