Hi there. I can only answer you on this drawing from my own experience, although my thoughts are that if you take all the meds your doctor prescribes and follow his/her instructions you should have the same experience. The procedure itself is reasonably short. I was in at 7AM and was home before noon. I did not experience any nausea and as for pain, I did feel some right after I woke up in the hospital which taking one Percocet resolved right away. Keep in mind I took all the meds prescribed to me the morning of before the procedure including a very powerful anti nausea med they give to cancer patients. So even the day of the procedure and right after I was fine considering. I felt a bit tired of course and slept a lot the rest of the day. The next day I felt ok but still tired. I still took the meds for nausea and pain the 2nd day as a precaution so I wouldn’t have any issues. By the 3rd day I was fine. I didn’t take any meds and was almost 100%. So, in my opinion 6 days later you should be fine to chair an event. As for travel and the nursing services I think you’ll be fine as well. The day of and next day were not so bad for me and I didn’t have any real help except for my children, all quite young ranging from 19 to 11 and my husband asking if I were ok.
Everyone is different but I’m sharing with you my experience and I hope you have a smooth one as well. Good luck!

Hi everyone! Time for an update.
In less than a week, I will hit 5 months since my Nov 8th procedure. This has been the best decision I have ever made.
When I weighed myself Sunday I hit the 30lb mark and inched in to the 120s at 129. Yay! It’s slow going now maybe a pound every week to two weeks as I near my goal
in terms of eating I can def see that I can eat more so I have to be careful. I weigh in everything that I can to stay honest and keep a food diary in. MyFitnessPal. I Would like to feel more restriction like in the early days but it is what it is.
My biggest suggestion for those just starting out is what my doctor told me… Take advantage of the early days of restrictive eating with liquids, and limited amounts of food.
for those halfway through don’t buy too many new clothes because they will be too big in a few months. 😮
And for those pre-procedure. I’m excited for you!

Wow Patricia! If you’ve already lost 3.5 kgs. then you are definitely ready for this! Just as Melesg has posted, a lot of your success will depend on your state of mind. If you have the discipline pre ESG then once you’ve had the procedure it should only be easier to continue. I’m very excited for you. I will have you in my prayers. I just know you will do fine and I’m anxious to hear about your success soon. All my best and I wish you a speedy recovery!

Yes, Patricia I was nervous but the procedure was not bad at all. I often tell this story to others who are nervous— I came home after my procedure and did laundry!!🤣🤣 I know you will be fine and do great!! Just remember to take all the meds the doctor tells you take before the procedure and get plenty of rest when you come home that same day. You’ll also be tired the 2nd day but by day 3 you should be almost back to normal. We are all rooting for you. You can do this!! Best of luck.

Hey MominCanada, welcome and thanks for sharing. I had an ESG in November last year in Houston. I checked out Dr. Marvin and was confident in him, you should have a good experience.
Stalls, great question, we all have them and there is usually more than one in my experience. It's a large change that our bodies are going though and each body reacts differently, it's not a linear process. I had a stall for 10 days where I didn't lose any weight, gained 1 pound and then afterwards in 2-3 days lost 3 pounds. Difficult for me as an engineer to explain. Water consumption and keeping it high seems to have something to do with it, see several recent posts in ESG forum. A number of us have had stalls, gone back and increased our water intake back >60-80 ounces per day and continued to lose weight.
I have a goal >> than 20% weight loss and am about half way there. I would encourage you to discuss your goals clearly with Dr. Marvin and ask his opinion with your specific body size/shape and goal is ESG the best way to go. I had this same discussion with my Dr. and concluded VSG or ESG would work (I did not want something temporary like balloons) and eventually chose ESG due to the simpler procedure and quicker recovery time.
My diet is very similar to a ketosis diet (only smaller portions) and when I have my blood checked I am deep into ketosis. Typically eating 2 eggs in AM, 3 ounces of Protein at lunch and dinner with 1/4 cup green vegetables and 1/4 cup brown rice or Pasta. I will do a yogurt for snack in AM and Sugar Free Chocolate pudding for snack in PM. Total 800-1000 calories/day. When I spoke with the dietician we agreed this was very similar to a Keto diet.
I have the same approach with sharing, other than my wife not talking about procedure with others. I have told them I'm working with a doctor on a very strict diet, with blood monitoring, etc. Diet is focused on on lean Proteins and similar to keto approach. So far so good on that front.
Keep the questions coming, we're here to help! Please keep sharing it can help so many others!
    Tex

Hi everyone. I have read all of the various topics on ESG and have really appreciated all of the information. I have a phone consultation on Monday and still have some questions, so if anyone is willing to send some input I would really appreciate it!
Some background: I live in Canada and ESG isn't offered here (and I don't qualify for any other surgery in Canada) so I am going to head to the US and pay out of pocket. I am speaking with Dr. Marvin of Houston Surgical - I was very impressed with their program and it seems like he has a lot of experience. I would like to lose about 50 pounds but would be content between 30-40.
Here is what I cannot wrap my head around: if ESG reduces the stomach and you continue to only take in a very limited amount of calories, why does weight loss stall/stop around 18-20% (according to the info I have read? Any thoughts?
I have reviewed the post-procedure diet, which seems eminently manageable; however, on some of the posts I have read that people follow a ketosis diet. Has this been recommended to anyone?
Finally, my plan is to tell my husband only. I think I can work around the "liquid/pureed" period of time, but I need to come up with an explanation to others on why I am eating so much less than before (AND, probably more frequently, explain why I drink less wine!). Does anyone have any great explanations other than: I'm really watching my portions and being more mindful?
Thank you to anyone who answers - I'm very grateful. If you have any other unrelated tips, I welcome those too!

I was just looking at your stats and I just want to say that I am super pumped! I am 40 5’4” and around the same start weight...I have my first appointment on Monday. So glad you are doing so well! So glad I found this site. I have learned so much and it’s given me more tools to explain to skeptic family and friends about the surgery. Thanks all! [emoji1373]

I know you’ll do great Patricia! Keep focused on preparing yourself for your esg by starting to change eating habits. I know it’s hard before esg to do this but once you have had your procedure it will amaze you how you can walk away from bad foods and make better choices. Don’t stress too much about your eating before, I did, but it will of course be hard to stick to a strict plan. I just think you should start to think about getting off of soda and carbonated drinks if you are addicted to them and drinking more Water. The water part is still a challenge for me but I’m taking it one step at a time. I take in like 80g. of Protein a day with very little food and I feel great. The weight is coming off and I have tons of energy. I’m sure you will as well. Looking forward to hearing about your success!!!

Well my beloved friends, thank God I think my stall may be over!!🎉🎊🎉🎊 I have lost an additional 3 lbs. for a total of 12 lbs. in exactly 17 days since my procedure. All of your advice was extremely useful. Thanks Tex for all of the tips on getting in the Protein and I love the muscle milk as well. That has become my go to shake. Amy, it was the Water. I was not drinking enough and when I starting to be more vigilant about my water intake that’s when I got over my stall. Thank you for reminding me about the most basic rule! Thanks Mel for your constant and unending words of encouragement. You told me to be patient and stick to the plan and I will break through the stall and I did.
Thanks to everyone!I have come to depend on you all for this journey so stay with us and keep posting about your progress. I still have a long way to go and need you all to stay with me please.
Im going to post my #s, only because I’m finally at a point where I am comfortable enough to say those huge #s are a thing of the past and I hope for good!!!

Amy, thank you so much. I completely forgot about getting enough water!🤦‍♀️ I’ve been so caught up on my Protein intake and not eating anything but liquids that I forgot the most important one.
I appreciate the encouragement and I will post as soon as I see the scales move, hopefully soon. I am on the Lose it app and I’m only taking in as you’ve estimated about 700-800 calories.
Love the great advice from all. I’m hoping my stall won’t be for too long. Thanks again!!
