Wow! I just got to sit down and read this whole thread!
@kaynga I'm so sad to hear you're experiencing this problem! ((hugs)) I hope you feel better quickly. I love the idea of Pedialyte if your doc says it doesn't cause you to dump! I hope you can start keeping liquids down soon!!!

Bless your bones You CAN do this!!! It DOES get better!!

Once you get to the cloudy liquids phase, ya know what I ate?!? HALO TOP ICE CREAM!!!! High Protein (for ice cream), meltable, cold, sweet and yummy... a couple spoonfuls definitely got me through some rough mental days.

You are very right! The most important thing is to focus on your liquid intake. It will take you weeks to actually meet your protein goals. Right now, drink what you can keep down and as much of it as possible. One other thing I did, I drank Pedialyte when I was dehydrated. Make sure you are having your "meals" pretty regular. I did every 2-3 hours when I was only getting in 2-3oz at a time.

Thanks for the advice Fluffychix! It's probably better to get incomplete Protein than not much at all, (which is the case for me right now except for my protein shakes) so I'll still give it a go along with other things day by day to see what I can tolerate more.
I think I've been a bit too tunnel vision about this stage. Even if I can't hit all my goals (except for hydration; I'm keeping that up no matter what), it's only for two weeks, and it's not like my health is going to deteriorate completely if I can't take in more than an oz of full liquid per meal. I'll just stick to doing my best to stay hydrated and take my Vitamins and I'll definitely be able to make up for it when I move on to the next stage. The nausea is already much better today compared to the last two days, so things are looking up.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm relieved I'm not the only one who had this issue. Looking back at my workbook I got from my dietician, it seemed like from day 2 on they expected me to drink 64 oz (including two premier shakes), then eat 2 oz 3 times a day right away. I can't even eat half that. I'll focus on getting the Water in as much as possible though.

kaynga got a reaction from Apple203 in Surgery approved, Pre-Op diet starts Wednesday
I was incredibly fortunate and my insurance approved me within four days, and my surgery (sleeve) was scheduled for March 14th due scheduling issues. I'm looking forward to it and I'm so grateful that I got this far. But...
My pre-op diet is two weeks of Protein Shakes for Breakfast and lunch, and for dinner 3 oz of lean meat and veggies. I'm really scared I might mess it up somehow, or the cravings are going to make me constantly hangry(hungry/angry) or leave me with no energy. Does anyone have suggestions for the best way to get through this part? I know this is the start of the Real Hard Work, and I'm ready to take it on. I'm just nervous and looking for advice/reassurance.

HI there! I'm scheduled for March 14th, praying I get approved. Here's the prep work I've done, beginning a few weeks ago:
Dropped wine and coffee Limiting carbs to fruit and vegetables Started taking bariatric Vitamins and Calcium (I chose a liquid product) Stocked up on clear and whey Protein drinks, variety Vigilantly hydrating myself Practicing not drinking Water 30/30 around meals, and chewing I haven't been perfect on any front, but I'm working it. Tomorrow get a CPAP machine, so I'll add that to my routine.

Kaynga, I was gonna tease you a little, if your surgery,is being done by a Saint,it surely will be blessed. Where is Saint Francis located? My hospital's name,is Mount Carmel so while you're relying on a Saint I will be venturing to the Mount. Bottom line I wish you well with your future surgery.

The peer to peer was denied, but I got sick of waiting for the doctor to do the written appeal. So I utilized my option to do my own appeal. Today I found out it worked. I have been approved. Just wanted to update this in case anyone else finds themselves in the same boat.

I also have Aetna. My last weigh in was the 10th of November and my doctor submitted my paperwork. I was approved about 12 days later by Aetna and had my surgery Dec 26. I am a teacher and that date was best for me!! Good luck!
