It's possible you may lose the desire to drink. I was a big social drinker, but now, it just isn't appealing. It was completely unexpected.
-
Part of this is just me. I have never expressed any unhappiness with my weight to anyone, not family or my closest friends. The friends & family I did tell were surprised I wanted WLS because I appeared happy and confident. So personally I am not comfortable with people knowing my weight is a struggle for me. It feel s like a weakness and I don't want to open myself up to being judged anymore than I already am. Secondly, I think the medical excuse works better than, I'm watching what I eat, or I am dieting. Only being able to eat 2-3 oz barely makes a dent in a plate. If people think I'm voluntarily eating so little, they will definitely encourage me to eat more. If I don't they will jump to the conclusion I've developed an eating disorder. Additionally, I have to have a medical excuse to not drink. If I don't I would hear endlessly about, "Just one drink" etc. In fact my workplace has such a drinking culture I'm badgered endlessly to drink even after telling people it will make me ill.

Yeah, in this case you have to choose between the truth or more elaborate lies. Just last week I was at a meeting with some peers I only see quarterly. One of them I consider a good friend cornered me about what exactly was going on with me, am I really ok. I was touched by his concern. I wanted to tell him the truth, but I had been lying to my boss, so I decided to stick to the same story. I just want to minimize the risk my upper management would get wind of my surgery.

I don't like it, but I lie. I do a lot of dining out with customers and colleagues, so the small amount I can eat is obvious. I usually tell people when ordering that I have been having stomach issues and won't be eating much. If I dine with them frequently then I've had to go into more detail, i.e. more elaborate lies, about an ongoing stomach condition and reassure them I am under a Dr.'s care.

Might be cancelling Surgery. Given the choice would you do it again?

I'm glad to hear this. As many others have said, you have done the research, you know what is best for you. These people do not know your struggle. This intervention was really unfair to you and comes from a place of ignorance. -
Yep, can do it on My Fitness Pal

Whey Protein after Surgery
sillykitty replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Premier Protein shakes are a popular option, IMO the chocolate is the best tasting -
My only restrictions were not to drive on pain meds, as well

Legal food on the run: Convenience foods that work and strategies for restaurants

I travel for work, so I eat out a lot. There is always something on the menu that will work. I mainly just look for lean proteins. I eat the protein and then a few bites of the veggies and starch. The biggest problem that I have is high end dining. Even though I'm not paying for it, it doesn't feel right to order a $40+ entree and eat only a couple of ounces of it. Sometime there are good appetizer or soup options, but sometimes there isn't. -
Please consider seeing a therapist. This is an incredibly self destructive thought process. You are young, take this time to get mentally healthy.

I'm doing well! I'm down 40 lbs a 11 weeks out. I feel really good too! Weirdest thing though. Not a single person who doesn't know I've had surgery has commented on my weight loss. I'm at a quarterly meeting this week, and I definitely thought some of my colleagues would say something, not a peep!

Whey protein concentrate is in the less than 1% section. I’m not sure if it agrees w me because it is different than whey protein isolate or if it in such a small amount that it doesn’t be matter

I got nauseas when my stomach is empty or when I am overly full. I’ve learned to mostly avoid the overfull feeling by slowing down when I eat. He empty stomach issue is harder, because I don’t want to constantly be eating. Thankfully after a couple of weeks the empty stomach nausea faded so now it’s just a dull ache.
-
It’s still possible that whey protein isolate isn’t the issue. Muscle Milk doesn’t contain whey, so it might be that you have eliminated whey, and not related to lactose at all. Do you consume anything else with whey protein, like powders, bars, or even Protein20?

At 2 weeks post op, I hit a wall energy wise. I got a B12 shot from my surgeon's office, and my energy was back within a day or two. So if you are feeling fatigued, I'd ask about B12, as opposed to just writing it off as a normal part of recovery.

Hugely variable between people. I work from home, so I technically took zero time off. My recovery was very easy, and if I had a desk job, I could have gone in 2 days post op.

It's hugely variable between people. I had an easy recovery and didn't miss anytime from work, but I work from home. I could have gone into an office for a desk job 2 days post op. But I'm definitely on the low end for time off, most people need more time than that.

On full liquid diet.... what are you eating?
sillykitty replied to Sprinkles1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made lentil soup during this stage. I just pureed it so it was chunk free. Definitely my favorite thing from that stage. -
Don't beat yourself up, no one is perfect! We all have to learn our new stomachs. Some lesson we have to learn the hard way, and that's ok!

Need some support from people who have had the sleeve
sillykitty replied to TreeMystic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 11 weeks out, and have no regrets! Actually, I wish I had gotten sleeved a few years ago, if that's a regret. My recovery has been pretty smooth. There are of course a few bumps in the road, but overall this has been so positive. I'm down 40 lbs, and it's the easiest 40 lbs I've ever lost. I have no physical hunger (although head hunger is something else!). I also love that I feel full and satisfied after only a few ounces of food, instead of going back for seconds. You're making the right decision for your future self! -
That is so inspiring, thanks for posting!

You say you're not interested in seeing a therapist, but that is what you need. You have control and food issues that stem from childhood, and you are looking for a way to undo or stretch your sleeve just one week in. This isn't something a forum can help you with. If you really want to get to a healthy mental place, you are going to need professional help.

I developed a whey protein isolate intolerance about 3 weeks post op. It cause extreme nausea, about 45 minutes after I started to ingest anything that contained whey protein isolate. I tried it in different forms, premade shakes, powders, bars & protein water, reacted the same to all of them. I had to find alternatives without whey. I first tried vegan powders, shakes and bars. I couldn't handle the way the tasted. I finally settled on Muscle Milk Pro premade shakes, Medifast powdered shakes, and Medifast chicken noodle soup, Medifast Crunch Bars, and several of the soups on Barbaric Pal. There are other premade shakes I can handle, like Advent Edge Carb control, but Muscle Milk tastes better to me. Hope that helps!

I hit a wall 2 weeks after surgery. I got a B12 shot from my surgeon, and another one a month later, and I've been feeling great. Might want to see if you can get one, or if not do sublingual B12. The effect was almost immediate for me.

I like the Medifast Crunch Bars. 110 calories, 11 g protein, 13 g carbs
