I'm using Life Balance Pure Egg White Protein. Here is a link with some reviews, but I buy it at Trader Joe's for about $8 I think https://www.amazon.com/Life-Balance-Pure-Eggwhite-Protein/dp/B01J4ET1B6 I read that a lot of the other unflavored proteins like Isopure, has a taste many don't like. And Genepro is controversial, and makes some dubious claims. The Life Balance isn't flavorless, it tastes like egg whites, so pretty neutral. It also doesn't mix well unless it's blended. But it's not a big deal to me to stick it in the Ninja with whatever I want to add it to

The best on-plan thing I have eaten lately is...

Premier Protein Caramel premade shakes are surprisingly good -
Weed, Marijuana, Pot
sillykitty replied to michy_hk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Falsehoods about marijuana are damaging, either pro or con. There is no federally regulated marijuana. Marijuana is still considered illegal by the federal government. Even in states where marijuana (medical and/or recreational) is legalized, there is no government oversight of the quality, purity, etc. -
Have you tried Protein20? It has 15g of protein, 60 calories. I've only tried the Mixed Berry so far, and it actually tastes good. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GQ5H870/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's not a solution, but could be an easy way to get some additional protein.

Weed, Marijuana, Pot

Smoking tobacco and vaping mj are totally different. Smoking tobacco has been shown to cause all of the negative consequences you quote above. You are not going to get the definitive answer you are looking for on vaping mj. The research simply hasn't been done. -

And pain meds can be used as prescribed and provide needed pain relief. Let's not paint any drug as all good or all bad, both pain meds and mj can be used properly and they can both be abused. -

Where are you getting the idea that vaping mj causes ulcers? H. pylori bacteria and/or NAISD's are what causes ulcers https://www.everydayhealth.com/digestive-health/experts-what-causes-ulcers.aspx -
I really like MyFitnessPal, I haven't tried any other app. I like the database of food is seemingly all encompassing, and it totals my calories, protein etc. I've also added recipes, and love how it calcs the nutritional values of them.

I'm happy to hear this. I'm on liquids and am able to drink pretty easily & am hungry. I'm glad to hear that only on solids will I feel the "fullness"

I didn't choose to be sleeved to eat only kale and grilled chicken breast for the rest of my life. I chose to be sleeved so I would eat mostly healthily. But when I wanted to indulge, I would be satisfied with much smaller quantities. Don't focus on what you can't have! When everything is black and white, good and bad, it's easy to feel like you failed and get defeated. Every food is both good and bad, I just try to stay further on the good side!

I was just sleeved this week, so I'm not currently taking any probiotics, I don't feel up to swallowing pills. But I usually take Hyperbiotics PRO-15 Probiotics (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JEKYNZA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I chose this one because of the high number of strains and CFU count, and the fact they are built to make it into your intestines, where they belong, instead of dying in your stomach acid. My friend and I started taking them this summer to prepare our tummies for a trip to SE Asia and street food. No way to tell if they worked or not but neither my friend or I got ill after 2 weeks of eating pretty indiscriminately. I've continued to take them since, I figure they can't hurt. I honestly don't feel any different if I'm taking them or not.

Yes, surgery was 2/12, this past Monday. My program is full liquids for 2 weeks, once discharged. I was told (repeatedly, lol) if it would fit through a straw, I could have it. Plus I can have sf jello, pudding and yogurt.

My surgery was the 12th, out on the 13th, so about on the same track as you. I have been trying to mix sweet and savory, and focusing on getting my protein in. So far I have had Premier Protein and Muscle Milk premade shakes, I've made shakes in the blender with Isopure, Almond milk, frozen fruit & ice. I was craving "real food", so I made lentil soup in the Instanpot, added some egg white protein powder and blended it smooth. I tried Trader Joe's Creamy Corn with Roast Peppers blended with the egg white protein powder, but it didn't taste good to me. For snacks I've had sugar free jello. I'm also enjoying Protein20 drinks, they are tasty and hep getting my protein in. I have some Halo ice cream, but haven't had the urge to eat it yet.

My doctor doesn't do single incision - should I find a new one?
sillykitty replied to Fitted T's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wouldn't worry about it. 4 of the 5 incisions are really tiny, and I don;t think they will scar at all. Certainly nothing I'd change surgeons over. I'd suggest using scar gel, after they have closed, if you are concerned. This is the one I have and am planning to use, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TBYW74/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 -
YES! I'm one day ahead of you (sleeved 2/12), and yesterday morning I got up sore and tired having not slept. But as the day went on I felt stronger and stronger. I was mostly pain free, except while moving around. And I was able to get my protein in, which seemed impossible the day prior.

Day 2 post op here ... I'm feeling remarkable good! Lots of energy and very little pain. I wasn't feel great all day yesterday, so I'm relieved I seem to be recovering quickly!
-
No pre-op diet of any kind was required at all with my surgeon. No food the day before surgery, and a colon prep was required. And then no liquids after midnight the day of surgery, and that's it.

My surgery was yesterday morning. It was a long day waiting, check in at 7 am for a 1 pm surgery. I learned I have bad veins and the nurses couldn't get an IV line into me. The anesthesiologist had to do it using an ultrasound. I woke up with a lot of gas pain and was miserable for a couple of hours. But once I was given the dilaudid I felt much better. There was an initial wave of nausea when it went into my IV, then it went away and so did the pain, and it made me sleep well. The overnight nurse was wonderful, was attentive and had me up walking a couple of times. Then the shift change this morning, I'm not sure if they were understaffed, or what, but nothing went right, no pain mgmt, no breakfast to get me started on liquids. Even though my Dr gave the ok to discharge at 7 am I didn't get to leave until 3pm, so that kinda sucked. My surgeon said the surgery went well, and took 40 minutes. Been just resting since I've been home. Slow going on the water and protein drink. Been keeping up with the Tylenol Codeine I eas prescribed, but learned that is a bad idea on an empty stomach. So I followed that up w a Zofran. Looking forward to being past the pain, and able to move easily and sleep on my side

Has anyone used any clothing rental services while they were rapidly losing weight? !'m in sales and meet with customers often. I need to dress professionally, usually in dresses, but skirt /blazers or pant suites are an option too, approximately twice a week, and business casual approximately 2 additional days per week. I really don't want to buy clothes in sizes I'll only wear for a month or so, and alterations are slow and costly. I am considering clothing rental services. But the only one I've found that has both plus and regular sizes is Gwynnie Bee. I'm currently an 18/20, so I hopefully won't be in plus sizes for long, and I know there will be a period I can wear both plus sized and regular sizes. Has anyone here any experience with clothing rental sites? Anyone know of any that carry both plus and regular sizes? TIA!

Hello … I’ve just been approved to be sleeved. I’ve been reading here for months, so wanted to introduce myself. 41, female, single, no kids, located in Los Angeles. I’ve been curvy my whole life, but really heavy the last 10 yrs or so. I had never considered WLS until now because of all of the negative side effects from the Lap Band or Bypass. But last fall my neighbor told me she was getting sleeved. So I started to research, and was excited by so few “cons” to the procedure. I went for my initial consultation in October, was told I was a good candidate. But I couldn’t have the surgery before the end of 2017 because of my work travel schedule. So I held off proceeding until January, so I wouldn’t have to pay more out of pocket than necessary. On January 9th I went back to my surgeons office and had nutritional counseling, psych eval, EKG, and then went to the hospital to get my blood work, chest X-ray & echocardiogram done. On January 9th I went to a PCP who works with my surgeon to review the results. I had one blood result she didn’t like, so I went back to get blood drawn again. Once that was all back and she signed off, it was submitted to my insurance. Approval came back in about a week! Surgery date is set for February 12th. Random thoughts: I’m really happy my insurance (Anthem BSBC) and my surgeon didn’t have a lot of requirements, or waiting periods, like nutritional counseling etc., or required preop diets or weight loss. I just want this done with, and have a skinnier me, sooner rather than later. My surgeon office was also really efficient about me getting all my tests, counseling, evals done within one week. I’m also glad my surgeon and my hospital are located about 3 miles away from my home. My job and this process is my biggest concern. I’m in sales and travel for work extensively. I have my first business trip 3 weeks after my surgery. It is a long flight and a weeklong trip, so I’m worried about my energy level, and eating (I’ll be in the pureed stage). I’ll also be with my boss (who won’t know about my WLS) from 7am-10pm, 3 meals a day, and also with a lot of customer and associates throughout the week. I’d love to have more time to recover, but traveling is a big part of my job so it’s unavoidable. On the job topic, because of the fact I’m in sales, entertainment, meals & drinking, is a big part of what I do. The difference in my eating habits & drinking will definitely be noticed and commented on. Also, I see a large number of business contacts & coworkers throughout the year. But everyone I see is infrequent, from less than monthly, to annually, so my weight loss is going to be very noticeable (hopefully!). I’m not sure how I’m going to answer well meaning questions about my eating or weight loss. I’m naturally an open book, but I don’t want to be open about my WLS. So I’ll need to come up with an answer that is truthful enough I won’t appear to be lying, but not the whole truth. I’m curious to find out what it will be like to drink post op (but once healed). I don’t intend to give up drinking, and my surgeon doesn’t require that I do. I have a reputation of being able to hold my liquor (considered an asset in my career). I know my tolerance will get lower as I lose weight. But I wonder how the sleeve will change the alcohol absorption and effects for me. I’ve told my mom and a few friends about my upcoming WLS, everyone is supportive (I obviously only told people who I knew would be). Last night I told the guy I’m dating, so that felt a little awkward. We didn’t have a big discussion about it, so I’d love to mind read and see how he really feels about it. Does he like my figure now and not looking forward to it changing? Is he just ok w my figure now, but looks forward to a thinner me? I’m obviously doing this for myself, so it doesn’t matter in the end, but I am curious. Definitely planning on plastic surgery when I get at or near my goal weight. Very fearful of the pain of a mommy makeover (even though I don’t have kids), but looking forward to the end result of being happy with my body. Any SoCal plastic surgeon recs appreciated!

Every Dr. has a different program. Mine has no presurgery diet requirements.

I Think I'm Doing Everything Wrong...and Shrinking
sillykitty replied to Raffi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I read this article, and then did some reading of the studies she seems to draw her conclusions from. IMO, she comes to conclusions that are not entirely supported by the research. The idea of transfer addiction sounds good, and seems logical, but the data is not so clear. From my own perspective, I find it difficult to believe that someone like myself who has had unrestricted access to alcohol for the last twenty years, and no addiction problems, will suddenly develop one post WLS. Also not everyone needs WLS due to food addiction. I know for myself, and many other overweight people I know, it is about poor food choices and inactivity, and nothing to do with compulsion or addiction. For me, the biggest deterrent to alcohol post surgery will be the empty calories. I know I can easily drink 1000+ calories a night. But I also know that will undermine all the work of having WLS and keep me from my goal. -
February 12th here too!
