Confessional - Lets post our cheats/confessions/etc so others can see that we are all human
sillykitty replied to Matt Z's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh man ... what others consider cheats, I consider wins! I only had bread out of the bread basket 1 meal out 5 this week, and I resisted putting butter on it I ordered the burger over the grilled chicken salad one day for lunch, but I didn't eat the bun. I ordered a panini for breakfast over an egg white omelet, but I only ate 1/8th of it. I had a glass of port after dinner one night, but I resisted my colleague's homemade chocolate chip cookies and all the snacks in the conference rooms and hospitality suite. And that was all just this week! -

Intermittent Fasting
sillykitty replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I usually do intermittent fasting on days I'm not traveling, or on days when I travel alone. I wait until as late in the day as possible to eat. I try not to eat again after my "dinner". I'm not sure if it helps. My calories are so low, I'm bound to lose weight. But I figure it can't hurt. I'm not usually hungry in the morning, so I don't have to make a huge amount of effort to fast. -
When did you start losing hair?
sillykitty replied to ChloeSleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine started about 3 months, and just seems to have slowed dramatically, and/or stopped, right around 5 months. -
You will have plenty of moments of weakness and slip ups in the future, no need to feel guilty for no reason .... it was just broth ....

Brain is Hungry but Stomach is Not
sillykitty replied to katiecat.batman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in the same boat. I just drank protein shakes because I had to. Sometime you just have to drink protein shakes even when you don't want to. Still true for me 5.5 months out -
I gave up my sugar free in 5th day post op
sillykitty replied to Redapples's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you're dehydrated. But regular popsicles and jello, lemonade have a lot of sugar. That is universally highly discouraged, if not out right banned post WLS. I'd really encourage you to find another way to get hydration. You don't want to work against this amazing tool you now have. -
@sideeye CUTE! (Unfortunately I still fear the long bob ) So ... good news, and hopefully encouraging news for everyone... My hair loss has slowed, dramatically! I started to notice it was lessening three weeks ago, but didn't want to jinx it. But now I am sure of it. I'm still losing hair, just much much less than I was a month ago. I'm so glad there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. My hair loss is only noticeable at my temples and hair line. So as long as I don't pull my hair back, no one should really notice.

Garbanzo Beans
sillykitty replied to apositivelife4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it totally does. So much so I'll even eat legumes on a date, lol! The key is, you can't just take one. I think that is what a lot of people do when they say it doesn't work. I'll take 3-5 right before my first bite. Also the Walmart generic version does not work at all. -

Non-sweet pre-made protein shake options
sillykitty replied to Anthropose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I like some of the protein soups they sell here on this site. -
I would not risk it, and have it resubmitted. I'd want to make sure I am approved for the surgery I am receiving.

Study on Ghrelin

That article is terrifying! -
I agree with drinking water keeps your hands and mouth occupied. I'm frequently in situations like this, candy spread out on a conference table for a day long meeting, or cookies brought in to a meeting after lunch. Going to a bar after dinner and bar snack, or someone orders nachos. I just drink water, and keep drinking. I also focus on the fact I'm not actually hungry, and what my goals are.

I was reading the posts in my email thinking .... who's this GreenTealael person, and why did they take Tealael's user name!?! -
Are you still a long way out from pills? I was ok, at about 2 weeks where you are at now.

I'm not at all disagreeing that we need to take responsibility for what we eat, and that regain generally comes from making unwise choices. But I don't feel the statement "At best one should feel a sense of loss at the convenience of fast/junk food." is fair. We are wired to prefer "junk food" https://abcnews.go.com/Health/foods-carbs-fats-make-brain-light-study-finds/story?id=55861080 https://www.nationalgeographic.com/people-and-culture/food/the-plate/2015/11/02/why-we-crave-sweets-and-fats/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3738223/

Just because you don't think eliminating fast food, chips, cake should cause a sense of deprivation, doesn't mean that is true for most others. A vast majority of people would certainly miss those items vs. chicken livers.

Yeah, the capacity is a huge downside. For just 1 it's fine, for two, it can be a challenge sometimes, for more than 2 it doesn't work at all. My mom and neighbor have two each, lol, my neighbor talks of getting a third one. I saw an infomercial for this one while I was in a waiting room. I have to admit I was sucked in and totally want it. Which is ridiculous considering I'm single, no kids and have a 2 oz stomach capacity http://www.powerairfryer.com/ -

I actually have made falafel in the airfryer. As long as it will hold together somewhat it should be ok. Although I do appreciate the fat free aspect of the airfryer, I also appreciate to no mess aspect vs. frying and the "set it and forget it" aspect. My mom and my neighbor do a lot of wings in their airfryer, they both claim (and I agree) they are superior to pan fried. In fact my neighbor whom used to fry a majority of his meals (chicken, pork chops, etc) told me he has barely turned his stove on in months, and his last gas bill was $8. He is definitely not motivated by the health benefits either. -

Have you ever tried an airfryer? I was surprised how much I like and use it, It's super versatile and easy clean up. IMO, the results are even better than frying. I turned my mom and neighbor on to them, and they love it as well. I sound like an infomercial, lol! -
Did your marriage or relationship die after you lost the weight?
sillykitty replied to George OG's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not while you're married, it's not fair to any women you may meet. -
I think you're overthinking it. Staying in the room while everyone else goes out to eat sounds depressing. Enjoy your vacation, go out to dinner. There is always soup on the menu, and most likely other things as well. Pack a stash of food that you can eat if you get hungry. Shelf stable hummus, unsweetened apple sauce cups, bring some protein powder and a shaker bottle.
