    Help

I have dyed my hair consistently after WLS, while I was losing hair, and while I was not. I don't think coloring made any difference at all. But I have to cover my grey roots, so not coloring wasn't an option for me. I don't lighten my hair at all though. I don't like the frizzy texture that peroxide/lightening gives it. If I want to make my hair a little more interesting, I do low lights instead of highlights.
  2. Earlier this week I was out of town in a city with incredible food. I went off the rails, willful gluttony. Me, working in a hotel room, with take out. I ate, not when I was hungry, but eating to my restriction, waiting an hour or two, then eating again. Amazingly because I have so much restriction this was still around 600 calories/day (best estimate since it was restaurant food) BUT, what I am proud of, is this was not a slippery slope for me. My first day back home it was a little difficult to get back on track, and not order food in. Since then I've been fine, not a lot of hunger, basically just getting my protein in. This didn't trigger carb cravings (carbs are my true love). It didn't trigger the f*ck it attitude I would get in the past when I fell off the diet wagon. So long story short, I'm happy that this tool of WLS is working for me!

    Hair Loss

Got my hair cut this weekend. Wasn't really because of my hair loss, just general, summer, going on vacation, take some of my length off type of cut, or so I had intended. Went from mid back to at/just below shoulders. Shortest I've had my hair, since, probably high school, maybe earlier, I really can't remember. One would think if you have the same hair dresser for 18 years, AND she's your sister this wouldn't happen, but apparently not.

    Air Fryer...Convince Me?

I bought my air fryer on a whim on Black Friday, or Cyber Monday, or something, because it was uber cheap. I've been surprised how much I use it. I actually can't remember the last time I've used my toaster oven. So the typical stuff it does really well, chicken wings (no breading, just pop them in frozen or defrosted, better than any other method IMO), any kind of breaded & "fried" protein (fish, chicken, pork chops). It's great for reheating, just about anything you would otherwise put in the toaster oven. I've done falafel and fish patties. I like the set it and forget it factor. No risk of burning like a toaster oven (although you can dry stuff out. I'm sure there are tons of other things too, but this is my personal experience. The downsides are, of course another bulky kitchen appliance. And most airfryers have a really small capacity. It is great for one, sometimes a problem for two, and impossible for three or more people. I did see this on TV, I'm completely sucked in honestly. Which is ridiculous considering I'm single and live alone http://www.powerairfryer.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwkrrbBRB9EiwAhlN8_M7gYcmzLB2AuTUzTU7vmLl7P890no5nAVMPRxnrwq-sFDesLnRYSRoC56IQAvD_BwE

    Reconsidering Goal Weight

Thanks for everyone's replys! @_Shane_ Yes, I was planning to slowly adjust my calories to find where I can maintain. My calories are too low in my losing phase to sustain long term. @Sosewsue61 Ouch! Sorry about your knee! I'm in my early 40's and single, so I'm not ready to give into being lumpy and bumpy if I can help it . I accept that I will not have a perfect 20 yr old body, but I want the best outcome possible. I have seen and like Dr. Fisher's work. I'm in LA, so there are no shortage of plastic surgeon's here. @Jingle123423 I'm 42. My surgeon said, losing 80 lbs was realistic and losing 100 lbs was optimistic. So I'm almost at the 80. I don't see why I shouldn't be able to get to 100. But now I'm thinking I may want to lose more .... @Orchids&Dragons I wish I was a "no rush" kind of person, I'd make life easier on myself @Diana_in_Philly I haven't had any plastic surgery consults yet. I was planning to schedule some appointments, but then a potential work conflict came up during the time I had carved out for surgery and recovery, so I'm a little bit in limbo. I have done a lot of reading about different surgeons, surgical options etc. I know for sure I want a tummy tuck, lipo, breast lift and augmentation. Then I most likely want a medial arm lift and a medial thigh lift (w lipo). I am definitely most concerned about the medial thigh lift, as healing and scarring can be major issues. But I have narrowed my search down to 2 local surgeons whom specialize in post bariatric plastics, and have experience with medial thigh lifts. I will definitely vet my surgeons thoroughly to make sure they can give me the best results possible. @GermanShepherdMama Congrats, that's awesome. I'm sure you look and feel fantastic!

When did you start losing hair?

Unfortunately there are several of us who have done everything "right", protein, biotin, other supplements, and still had significant hair loss.

And it most likely won't be different after surgery. You might be fortunate and have reduced hunger, so that may help. But head hunger isn't affected at all, so chips and fast food are still very tempting. The only safety net is reduced stomach capacity, so you won't be able to eat a whole combo meal. But capacity will change over time, and you can eat around the restriction if you're determined. Just like regular dieting, a lot comes down to will power. WLS is just an extra tool that might reduce hunger and will reduce capacity. But it's not magic.

    Considering stage Questions

You will get hungry and you will be tempted by chips and fast food. Surgery does not change that at all.
  15. I think it is great you are going to do this at 29. I wish I had had my surgery years ago. On your fears. You are very unlikely to lose too much. In fact it takes a lot of effort to even get to goal, much less below it. Unfortunately the weight doesn't just "fall off", we need to do the work too. As far as keeping the part of your body you love, I have for the most part. Ok, my boobs are a little sadder than I want them to be. But I have a great hour glass, and a pretty amazing butt, if I do say so myself. Being younger, your results will be even better. Good luck, you'll be glad you did this!

    Considering stage Questions

I am sleeved, so can only answer for that 2) I have heard stories of people who lose a lot of weight and they are tired and cold all the time from low matabolism... I heard weight loss surgery prevents this... Does it? Being cold is sometimes a side effect. I have not experienced it. But I'm not yet at goal 3) I work around food and hear that is a risk factor for WLS failure. Yes it is. Definitely able to eat around my sleeve if I wanted to. You have to make the mental commitment not to do so 4) I worry I will be full after 5 bites but hungry again in an hour... That isn't gonna help me lose weight unless I am full between meals. I hate being hungry- its painful to me. I just can't white knuckle through if I am hungry between meals. I am full after 5 bites and then nearly always full and satisfied until next snack or meal time. I am sometimes hungry, either physical or head hunger. At those times I will have a healthy snack 6) I worry about mal-nutrition, some studies have shown even with vitimins and good nutrition people become malnourished. Not generally an issue w the sleeve 7) I have bad knees and take Ibuprofen and naproxin, I worry about the surgery making pain meds dangerous Some Dr's allow NASIDS, with limits and precautions 9) I feel pretty good on Paleo but I fall off the band wagon partly cuz it is so much work to make everything from scratch. Do you have to make all your food from scratch? No tv dinners and canned Soup (as a single mom I sometimes go the easy route which is my downfall often) No need to make everything from scratch. I eat a lot of prepared or semi prepared food from Trader Joe's for example. 10) How active do I have to be? I consider myself moderately active. I enjoy hiking, swimming, soft ball, yoga, and stuff on weekends... But I don't have time for 2 hours a day (which is something people who lose 100lbs naturally have to do for life- and it just doesn't seem possible while working full time and being a single mom). 30 min a day, and a few hours on weekend (especially in summer) I could do. But I do have other time obligations I'm terrible, I'm not very active. I do a moderate amount of walking. 11) does fruit cause dumping? Can you hage coffee with milk? Can you have nuts? Can you have treats on special occasions? Whatever about cough Syrup? What about sandwiches (common hiking fair) Fruit can cause dumping but YMMV. Generally, yes you can have coffee w milk (or a protein shake as creamer). Nuts, yes, but watch out they are often a high calorie slider. I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to have cough syrup. I eat sandwiches, no issues. 12) I worry about getting enough hydration. Sometimes I realized I haven't drunk all day and I guzzle Water (which I don't think would be an option any more) You can guzzle after a few weeks or so post op This is all assuming all goes well... So, honestly, I'm not sure if you are ready. It's cliche, but this surgery is only a tool. You have to be in the right mental space, and be ready to do your part to be successful. I mean, if you had to give up fruit or nuts, but got your health in return, isn't that worth it. But instead you seem hung up on the small things, like you are looking for excuses. You have to really, really want this, in order to succeed long term.

    Changing BC after surgery?

If you want to have children soon, I would warn against Depo Provera. I was on it off and on for years. It takes so long to get your period back after going off of it. Upwards of a year for me personally. You may have some anecdotal reason to be anti IUD, but it is far more effective than just about any other than option. https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/birth-control

    Why so slow???

A lot of times the stats in profiles include pre op weight loss. So that makes it look like others are losing faster than we are. I'd suggest not comparing yourself to others, or what you think you should be losing. As long as you are following your plan, you are going to maximize your loss.
  21. Unfortunately your metabolism may have slowed and 1200 is around you BMR, and that's why you're not losing. I have no experience with this, since I'm in my honeymoon loss phase right now. But I'd start over. Do a couple of weeks of liquid diet, and then move on to protein rich foods. You'll need to find where the scale starts moving again.
  22. Do you log your food? You lose weight in the kitchen, not in the gym, the saying goes....
  23. I become intolerant of whey protein about 3 weeks post op. It started causing extreme nausea. Something to consider.

    Why so slow???

In 2.5 months you have lost 37 lbs. That doesn't sound slow to me!
