    Running/Racing & Training...what to expect?

Thanks for your perspective! I find the races and working toward that kind of thing highly motivating which is why I asked! I was doing plenty of jogging at 250lbs and really enjoy it so I don’t want to wait until I’m under 200lbs to start... I am going to do a 5K this fall and go from there! Thanks!!
  2. Officially one month out yesterday and today I'm officially 20 lbs down since surgery...again, let's hope it sticks this time around! I was doing really well the first two weeks post-op and then the last two weeks I've been gaining/losing the same few pounds. I've lost 2-3 pounds or less over the last two weeks, but I'm trying to look at it as "wow, 20 lbs in a month!" rather than looking at the 2-3 pounds in two weeks. I've been hung up in the same spot that has been like a brick wall every time I've tried to lose weight before. I also emailed my NUT to ask about it and what she said was really helpful to me, so I thought I'd also share here. I was prepared for a stall/plateau around week 2 or 3, but was not prepared for it to last as long as it has, so this was reassuring! Plateaus are common even after weight loss surgery and they often will happen at points where your body has wanted to stall in the past. In the first 6 months after surgery, they are usually 1-3 weeks in length. They can last even longer than that after 6 months post-op. Have faith that you are on track! Focus on how clothes are fitting and if you are losing inches more than pounds. Know that stress and poor sleep can also influence the scale in addition to diet and exercise.

    Running/Racing & Training...what to expect?

As I reflect further, 15K seems awfully ambitious right out of the gate. For now I'm signing up for a Halloween-themed 5K that takes place on 10/27/2018. I feel like that gives me time to do C25K (or at least some of it) and 'dip my toe in the water' in terms of racing!
  4. One month out and 20 lbs down since surgery (33 lbs down including the two week pre-op diet). Both excited and nervous about the whole trying out solid/real food again, only a couple more days! Starting to plot my cali'flour "pizza" toppings now!

  5. I had avocado the first day of my pureed stage - it was delicious! I wasn't told to avoid it or anything so I made some guacamole (just avocado, tomato, onion, garlic, little lemon juice) and then pureed it and added it to a pureed piece of a homemade "skinny" enchilada. It was DELICIOUS! We all have different plans though, so I don't know whether it's okay on others' plans. I haven't had it again since but mostly because I keep forgetting to pick one up/tell hubby to get one!
  6. I don’t know about the paleo element but I have very much enjoyed fat free refried beans with salsa during my purée phase!
  7. This is where I’m at too. I feel like your calories sound WAY too low especially if you’re working out so much - is that what your NUT says your goal should be? How’s your protein and fluid intake? I’ve been gaining and losing the same two pounds for the last two weeks. My first post-op NUT appointment is next Thursday and I’m hoping she can give me some ideas on how I can start losing again...

    July Gastric Bypass?

Thanks for the encouragement! Even with just being on puréed I’ve been dealing with stalling for sure and I’ve been worrying that it didn’t work for me, that my doc didn’t make my pouch small or didn’t bypass enough intestine...I’m hoping that by 5 weeks post op on Monday maybe I’ll be over the hump...still hovering around 19-20ish pounds...
  9. Wow! Congrats on your progress!! You’re doing amazing! Check out skinnytaste.com, tons of great healthy delicious recipes!!

    Cheese Cravings?

My only cheat the first two weeks postop were a few tiny teaspoons of feta cheese crumbles bc I was craving it a ton...
  11. I’m not trying to cause a ruckus, I have not posted anything on this thread until now. I am sincerely happy that so many people have found support in this thread through prayer and a prayerful community. I just wish it could happen without starting to cast judgements on those of other faiths, since this is a public and non-religious forum.
  12. No, telling us that we’re going to be judged for our bad wrongness because we have different beliefs should not be happening on this forum. As an agnostic I fully agree with side eye’s eloquent and patient explanations of why statements like that are exclusionary and unkind to those who do not share the same faith.

    July Gastric Bypass?

I was doing well and then have been stalled for the last week or slightly more. I’m down about 19 maybe slightly less since surgery. What about you?

    Keto Rash

I’m jealous that yours went away! Mine is still going strong. No new anything in my environment/food except my chewable multis, so I switched to a different one to see if that’d help...I’m so over it and want it to go away already!
  15. Yeah super irritating! I sent my chart/medical messaging messages to my PCP and clinic team, I’ll keep you updated on what they say and if anything works!
  16. Do you also still have yours? I want it to go away or at least stay only in areas I’ll keep clothed!

    Me too!

    Keto Rash

Interesting, I’m going to have to try that!
  19. Anyone else develop a rash post surgery? About a week after surgery I got these small itchy bumps, first just under my boobs and in my armpits so I thought it was just heat rash or something. Now it’s also on my back and along my “pecs” . I’ve been trying hydrocortisone 2X per day and Claritin every day as recommended by doctor, but now it seems to have shown up on my neck (really wishing I hadn’t gotten short summer haircut). Anyone else deal with this? Anyone find something that works? Does it just go away on its own? I’m four weeks post op as of tomorrow...

    Back to Work

I think it in part depends what age level you work with. I’m a teacher too - middle and high school social studies. When I’ve subbed as elementary I feel like it can be more moving around/bending/performing and you never know when an overeager hug will hit you right in the incisions...I think I would have been fine two weeks out, just really exhausted/low energy in the afternoon. I think it’d be really hard to miss the first few days of school, and I’d say be there for the first few days even if you need to take the Thursday Friday off that week to rest up after it. But as others have said everyone’s timeline is different!! Good luck!!!

    Under 100kgs

    Congrats!! How exciting!!
  23. I'm just about 4 weeks out, I had a really delicious three bean turkey chili (from skinny taste website)!
  24. I’m in MN too, surgery was a week after yours. All the Instagram posts from friends trying out all the amazing fair foods is bumming me out for sure. I’ve been a bit of a hermit the last few weeks, which has meant less in person exposure to temptations, but I’m going back to work Monday and there are bound to be tons of treats around with the start of the school year! Hoping I can stick to my plan even with all that, which may be hard to do without telling people about my WLS which I don’t really want to do because I’m a private person.  Last night though I had a major craving for buffalo wings, and we found a recipe for buffalo mashed cauliflower and it was really good! Trying to stay ahead of cravings and have alternatives has been helping a bit, but I do miss the fried cheese curds and beer tasting and other summer fair foods! How are you holding up?

    Keto Rash

Update: I emailed a few articles about this to my sister (who is a MD) and she said it sounded bogus and backed it up with some good explanation/examples... I definitely have the rash too, but it seems like maybe there's a reason besides keto type diet behind it...
