Now that we are approaching our 1 year anniversary I wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing. I hope everyone is happy with their progression.

    Surgery date 2/9/2018
    Heaviest Weight 405
    Surgery Weight 367
    Current Weight 265

I’m happy with how I’m doing. At my 9 month check up my doctor’s staff had some concerns with me meeting goals. I know this is a life change so I wasn’t upset if I couldn’t get to it within a year.

I probably should be closer to my original goal of 250 (which a year ago I thought was impossible) but lately I am having a hard time motivating myself to work out.

    Brad

    Goal weight : 220

So I realized I haven't posted in a while because somehow my group emails started going to my spam folder.
My progress has slowed a little during the summer months. I blame my kids. I'm a stay at home dad with 3 kids and none of them want to eat Breakfast, lunch, or Snacks at the same time and if I have to help my younger two prepare anything I sometimes end up nibbling on something I'm making them. Not always the times but sometimes. I'll have a couple good days then a couple bad ones (usually right before I weigh myself on Wednesdays). I'm hoping to be well under 300 by my 6 month follow up so I have a couple weeks to get back on track.
And just so all you ladies know, Hair loss impacts us guys too. Maybe it's because mine is usually kept shorter that it has taken me a while notice but right now I'm in need of a trim and I have definitely started to see it coming out in the shower.
    Hope everyone is doing well.

So I’m down 40 since my surgery and almost 80 since I started the process. I’m slowly going down in shirt and pant sizes, but besides my wife no one else seems to notice. And that bums me out a little. I know I’m doing this for myself but with I guess I want more recognition.

I’m happy I lost the weight I put on during our cruise vacation plus I lost an additional pound so yay!!

My main issue now that I’ve been cleared for most foods is chewing. I was always a fast eater one bite two bite swallow. When I do that now I have to make a quick trip to the bathroom because I’m about to get sick.

In other news I had a wound open up on my stomach right after surgery. It left a 1.5 inch hole on my stomach. Well two months later and it’s finally closed.

The clinic I go to required my wife and I to watch a video about the surgery and that mentioned that some type of bowel prep was going to be needed. But when I actually went through the pre-op meeting with the doctors they are only having me on Protein Shakes and Water tomorrow no magnesium citrate, surgery is Friday.

Thank you all for the feedback. It is so helpful!
I’m not sure I will tell my co-corkers. I’m a pretty private person so I’ll work that out.

I took about 3 and a half weeks off, although my boss told me not to rush back if I needed more time. It was right in the middle of Christmas holidays - he gave everyone some time off so I really only needed to use about 10 sick days. I had just told him I was having surgery, although my coworkers knew it was a gastric bypass. I did struggle a bit with my energy levels the first few weeks back so I've had some short days, but apart from that everything has been fine.

I only planned to take 1 week and that's what I requested. But I was still having so much pain, my surgeon wrote a note excusing me for a second week. The third week I changed my schedule to get off work at 3:00 pm instead of 5:00 pm. By week 4, I was back to full days. My boss and close co-workers know the procedure. Others in the office just know I had "abdominal surgery." Everyone has been great.

I was told that if you don't eat enough during the day you will be hungry at night thus making you vulnerable. So I made sure I started my Protein early and every 3 hours. It worked. But that was only for a week.
