1. After much prodding I was finally told that after RNY the goal is 12-17% of excess body weight each month. Each month you lose, the less excess weight to lose and so amount goes down based on those percentages. I’m charting. I weigh once per week and have hit target 3 months in a row. I stalled too but was still in range so didn’t beat myself up. Good luck!

  2. I feel great. Never used my pain meds. Only used Tylenol sporadically for first week. Slowly introducing soft foods. 4 oz of hamburger yesterday went through the blender. I prob had only 1 oz before feeling it. The rest went to the freezer and I will try again later. Scrambled egg and cheddar was amazing!

  3. I'm at 299.8 and still have a long way to go but I'm thrilled to be under 300.
I started at 369 (at the beginning of my 6 month program in September) and was at 347 the day I had surgery.
Just wanted to share my happiness.

    Awesome! Our stats are similar.
    When I started I was 373.3
    Op weight was 343.3

Today is day 5 post op for me.

Looking forward to being in the 3’s myself.

My ideal body weight according to a stupid chart is 170ish. I would be ecstatic at 200!!

  4. I am 5 days post op and these Protein Shakes are not cutting it!!!! I want something of some substance even if it is Peanut Butter or cottage cheese! I am so tired of drinking sweet things and am actually hungry. Surely I am not the only one, right?!

I’m four days post op. I’m actually not using my pain meds. It makes me uncomfortable which helps with hunger. Sometimes I’m so sore the last thing I want is something to eat.

I have been using popsicles and Jello to help too. So far so good but does feel like I’m drinking Protein Shakes and crystal light non stop to ensure I get my ounces.

  5. Hi everyone,
Tomorrow is surgery day, and I guess I'm going through the roller coaster of emotions that everyone does. I've been on the liquid diet for 7 days now, I cheated once and I had really mixed feelings afterward. Part of it was guilt, and a much larger part was a sense of entitlement that I felt that I had deserved it since I had done so well not cheating(ironic I know).
I guess I'm really anxious because I live so far away from my surgeon and her support staff, it's almost a 4 hour drive each way. I've met her once and was given a long list of things to take care of on my end, the GI clearance, Cardiac clearance, blood work, etc., and I never really bonded with anyone. Now my life is about to completely change, and I'm fine one minute and then it hits me and I almost feel like I'm drowning.
Been reading the comments here, and feeling better for the most part. Also realized I need to get a few things that I wasn't aware I'd need like lip balm, dry mouth spray, and a few other things.
Truth is I'm scared to go through with it now, and I'm scared not to do it. I turned 40 this past February, and I don't believe I can shed this extra weight with diet and exercise alone anymore. I'm scared that I'll get so big that I'll be trapped in my body alive but not living, and struggling just being.
    Wish me luck!!

I turned 41 in Feb. I never stopped believing I could lose the weight through diet and exercise. I never believed I could keep it off. Take sweats or basketball shorts. Good luck!

    My rny was June 6

  6. So as my day is coming closer and closer I’m running around trying to decide what I need to get to be ready for that amazing day.
What are some of the things that looking back after your surgery that you couldn’t live without post surgery in the hospital and right afterwards.
I am hoping that this will help all who have not had the surgery be able to learn from those who have had it.
What made post surgery easier for you ? What was your can’t live without items?

I have a Yeti cup for my Protein Drinks and milk. These need to be cold for me. Because I drink so slow I needed something other than a standard glass.

First thing I had when I got home... sugar-free popsicles. They only had some terrible orange ones in the hospital.

  7. Me too, I think I would like, one of those. Maybe on the inside of my left wrist or forearm where I can see it myself and Celebrate what I have been through!

How cool would it be if that Phoenix tat became nationally recognized symbol of wls. We could ID each other in society!

  8. Yes! I would like a foot tattoo of a molting snake to commemorate my adventure. I have an inspiration photo from google that is somewhat loosely similar to what I would like the artist to design - particularly the intertwining and the white, lacy molted skin. But I'd like a much more colorful snake and obviously the size and shape of the two snakes would have to be fit to the top of my foot. I really prefer to let the artist take over as much as possible, I feel my pieces are truly unique and a sort of bond of trust between me and the artist. I know most people are way too a-n-a-l (sorry, trying to avoid filters haha) and want to control what it looks like which I totally understand, cause it's going to be on your body forever, after all! But anyway, yes, I definitely want a tattoo in honor of this huge life change.

    I’m thinking a Phoenix tattoo.

  9. RobR44134 It's a popular date. BEST of luck! I'm sure your nerves are spiked. I can only imagine. Try to get some rest tonight - everything will go great. All the best!

Surgery went well. Still in hospital. Bored and ready to go home

  10. I'm just getting started with the revision process in Dayton, Ohio. May I ask what insurance you have that didn't require the diet? I'm just stressing about repeating the process after just going through it last year, lol. Good luck on your journey though! [emoji4]

I have United Healthcare. High deductible plan... Max out of pocket is $2800. Started HSA and putting $88 each check into so I don’t have to pull from savings. My company adds $500.

  11. I have not done the nasal spray or Patches as they are not approved by my surgeon as of yet, nor is the Tespo system, which I would really like to try (one shot of juice in the morning and one at night).
I have gone out to restaurants quite a bit since surgery, and have done it all from not ordering a thing, to sharing some bites with my wife, to ordering my own plate and taking 80% or more home with me. Most restaurants have something that I can have, at a Mexican food restaurant over the weekend I ordered a chicken enchilada and refried Beans. I ate only the chicken out of the enchilada and had some beans. Other places will have chicken breast, fish, etc. that works in my plan. I always go Protein first, then veggies, and maybe a couple bites of starch but that is very rare that I get past the protein itself. I have my 3 month check up tomorrow, so I'll be curious to hear what the surgeon has to say.

My sister’s doctor gave her some type of card that she shows to server that permits her to order from kid’s menu. Not sure if it’s a NY thing but saves money and wastes less food.
