  1. Happy 53rd Birthday gaynor curtis!

  2. Hi All Brandy you asked why i had a staple line. Its because part of my stomach had died and had to be removed, due to my band slipping. heidi
  3. Hi all would you beleive I have just spent another week in hospital this time I had a perferated ulcer caused by the removal of the band, apparently where the staple line is. First I knew about it was when I literally started throwing blood up, loads of it. Ended up in resus at my local hospital and then transferred to another. Very scarey. Surely nothing else can go wrong !! Headhunter I wish you a speedy and uncomplicated recovery. Gaynor
  4. Hi Janine sorry to hear you have had such a rough time. I cant beleive it was a piece of KFC that caused your problems. Me too. My son left a hot wing and i just had a little bite, which caused me all sorts of problems. We are all here for you, if you need support. Hope you are feeling more positive. Gaynor
  5. Hi All I had my 4 week post op check yesterday and the consultant said he is dealing with more and more band problems although he said mine is the worst he has ever seen. he actually said the outcome could have been completely different if I had been left any longer. I was also mentioned at a conference because it was such an unusual case. Anyhow my weight still seems to be ok, I am trying so hard, I've even started walking again and gradually increasing the distance. Got to remain positive, It is scarey though !! gaynor
  6. Hi all David you asked for a little more info about my band remouval. Basically my band had worked fairly well for me for 3 years. However I have to say when I look back at the quality of my life while banded I wonder now. I suppose I was happy to have lost my weight and kept it off, however there were times when it was extremely difficult. Anyhow I was a bandster who did not like to be too restricted, so if ever i felt my band was too tight, I would have a de-fill. On a Sunday evening I ate a tiny bit of chicken and possibly did not chew well enough. I was not sure if something was stuck or if band had tightened as this can happen. To cut a long story short I arranged for a defill on the Tuesday. felt okay afterwards but on Wed was uncomfortable again barely able to manage fluids, so arranged for another defill but sadly had to go to my local hospital on Thursday as was in agony and unable to even swallow saliva. They had not got a clue what to do with me, so I told them they needed to completely defill my band. They only did this when i insisted they call my consultant 2hours drive away and he agreed this was the best course of action. I was no better after this so they eventually transferred me to another hospital where they had a specialist who was able to remove my band. He told me by this time my stomoch was completely black, so they had to drain a lot of disgusting black Fluid from it and hope that the colour would return to normal. Most of it did but the top of my stomoch had died, so had to be removed and i had also torn a muscle that had to be stitched due to retching so violently, the consultant told me if I had been left another day it could have been a whole different story. He described my stomoch as like a balloon full of Water being squeezed by a hand (the Band). Scarey stuff eh. Anyhow 5 weeks post op and I'm on the mend, still in a little pain and still having problems eating. By the way I asked him if this could be caused by one incident and he said yes. Gaynor
  7. Sorry S.Elaine i should have said thanks to you for starting this thread, and hope your doing ok. Gaynor
  8. Hi All Headhunter what an amazing post. You have made me feel so much better. I had to have my band removed a few weeks ago and I suppose I was very lucky because I had got to goal weight. However we do tend to relly heavilly on our bands, I certainly did anyway and I must admit I am terrified I will gain the weight back, having said that I am also very glad to be here at all as my band came very close to killing me. My weight at the moment is stable but I know that is partly down to not having a huge appetite yet. Thanks guys I'm sure we can help each other remain positive. Gaynor:thumbup:
  9. Hi David I have not had time to read all the replies as there are loads. But I so know where you are coming from as my band nearly killed me also. I had to hhave an emergency op last month. The consultant actually said If I had been left another day I could have died. My band was removed as was part of my stomoch and the rest stapled back together. I did do very well with my band am at target, I was banded for 3 years and a few weeks ago I would have been singing its praises. I used to avoid posts like mine and yours when I was banded as "it was never going to happen to me" and I just did'nt want to know, I thought people with band problems were few and far between but I'm afraid there do seem to be a lot of us. Good luck with your op David, I'm afraid people who have not yet had problems have no idea what an ordeal it is to go through. Take care gaynor

Have you kept the weight off ?

Thanks Guys its nice to hear some positive posts. I do think that I relied to heavilly on my band anyway. I am really hoping I can stay at goal. Def agree about the exercise. When I am fit (still healing at the moment) I walk at least 45 mins in the morning and try to do the same in the evening. I have 3 dogs so thay keep me pretty fit. Thanks again you have both made me feel so much better. We can do it Gaynor:thumbs_up:
  12. I had to have my band removed a couple of weeks ago, I had had my band for 3 years and am at target, and was just wondering if anybody in similar circumstances has managed to keep there weight off after band removal (mine was due to slippage). There is no way I want any more surgery it was all very traumatic. Just wondering. gaynor

It was GREAT while it lasted

Hi there I live in the UK and had a similar experience to you and ended up losing my band, part of my stomoch, having the good bit of stomach stapled and having a torn muscle sewn up also caused by the vommiting. I had had my band for three years and was amazed when told this was probably caused by one episode of somthing getting stuck. I had my op 2 weeks aga and am still feeling fairly rough. Everything I eat goes straight through me and I still get pain, I have like a permanent stitch on my left side and [pain in my left shoulder. How long was it before you felt normal again. And are you managing without your band. Many thamks gaynor

    Emergency op to remove band

Hi there I was rushed into hospital 2 weeks ago and after 2 days of agony eventually moved to a hspital with a bariatric surgeon who removed my band as it had slipped and also had to remove part of my stomoch as it had died (the part of my stomoch above the band was black, some of it returned to normal colour and some did not) I had had my band for 3 years and am at target, actually a little below now. Has anybody else experienced similar and if so how long did it take you to recover. I get a lot of pain when i eat and at the moment everything I eat goes straight through me. I dont want to frighten people but had it not been for knowldge gained from sites like this the consultant said had i have been left another day who knows what could have happened. Gaynor
