    So far so good

Hi Nazz, You can do it, 6 months is a Long time. From where I am, the hospital told me usually we have 12 months to lose ( vs what I checked online which is 12-18 months ). So I am left with 4 months based on the hospital’s feedback. For myself I have reduced my calories intake. I should be around 700. I started taking only protein drinks for dinner to aid my weight lifting and nothing else but I still take considerable lunch ( 2-3 portions of meat , some carbo and veg ). My arm muscles looks better now thanks to weight lifting and I plan to move to my back and leg muscles in coming months. Not that I ignore my leg muscles but not focusing too much but still I put leg weights when I walk on my treadmil at night and I am trying to gain some through Cycling during weekends. For the skin hanging, I can see it hanging on my arm and lost of them on my stomach but not thighs....it’s tough to see skin hanging on thighs I guess.

Hi Nazz, How are you doing? Skin removal is costly where I am and not covered by insurance so I Guess I have to work it out to burn those excess skin back to normal. I am still losing ~4 lb weekly so is this normal? Because my hospital told me the weight loss will get less and slower. I am 30 lb to my ideal weight based on BMI. I have been doing walking every day 5 miles in total together with weights training every night. I go Cycling on the road every weekends for ~12 miles and increasing.

I am 216 now but I am shorter (5.7) so I will be really happy to lose another 30 in the coming 6 months and yes I do feel better with myself in terms of health, looks and sizing. My BP medication is reduced to half of what I am taking and my BP daily is normal range. Going to try to reduce progressively. However I had blood test recently and I have Lower than normal blood count and higher than normal iron. Quite strange... but no need for any additional supplements except my daily doze of multivitamins. Still getting injuries on and off but I have done weights training for arms and stilling for my lower body. Also started picking up cycling to maintain activity during weekends and it’s fun.

Hi Nazz, How are you doing. I have reached my personal target weight but still trying to lose more ( 30 pounds ) so I will be closer to my ideal weight. After my saga of being injured I tried to reduce my walking and everything is back to normal. Everyone around me was amazed by my results and I went from 6XL to XL or L for my shirts and 54” size jeans to 38”. I am really enjoying the result and have started with weights training and walking interval.
  5. Hi all, Not sure if it’s right to post here but I can get the advice. I am post op 6 months. It was a smooth journey so far. I measured my weight daily , I know it’s not advised but it keeps me on track. I walk Everyday for 2 miles and until recently I found I gained 1 pound within a day even on a normal routine so I increased to 5 miles a day and initially it showed very good results where I lost 1 pound a day until today morning when I weight I gained 1 pound. Walking 5 miles a day is really taking a toll on my body at this point. XI strained my back and my knees become weak. I am quite depressed because if the current exercise that I have is enough to maintain my weight I can still accept it but not gaining weight. Right now I am taking 2 days rest to let my back recover, recharge and think about what I should do. I am very close to my personal target ( 5 more pounds ) however I am really blocked now. Any suggestion/advice will be grateful.
  6. I reduced due to my injury. It’s my body telling me it’s too much. I do 2.5 miles during office hours and then 0.8 miles after work + weights
  7. Dear Buddy, Thanks for the information. I agree with you on the point that weighting Everyday lets you know if your weight has increased and take actions before it is out of control. I think the reason for not weighting Everyday is more of the mental perspective. Some will get stress over a pound gain and start to panic which is what I experienced and it back fired, I increase my exercise up till a point my body cannot take it and just break down. Only during my resting period I realised why the weight gain and it will stop at a point ( gaining back water ). So I think weighting Everyday has its advantage but we also need to keep a cool mind once we see a gain in weight and really understand the reason before going into increasing exercise. One could also measure weight and waist to confirm.
  8. Thanks BlueBongo, Yes, it’s hard not to know Everyday’s progress but I learnt a lesson because I forced myself too hard and got injured. During my resting days I see my weight increasing little by little ( I guessed it due to water retaining) and stop and stabling. I started doing some light exercise and I am losing little by little again. I Guess every step you fall is a lesson learnt. I will try to take it slow and steady now..
  9. Dear Matt, Thanks. I had an accident yesterday, my knee gave way after my walking and I injuried my foot and banged my head on the floor so I had to rest but I plan to do weights training these few days to make up for it. Thanks for your advice on body-building as it Is really a alternative to strengthen my muscles and knee. What does reset means? Reset my diet?
  10. Hi Biddy, thanks for your reply!
  11. Hi Bryn, Thanks for your advice. I agree with you and I plan to stay away from the scale and check weekly starting next week. What is a more realistic weight lost for a week for 6 months post op?

Hi Nazz, I am in a situation too. I gained weight after going back to my work exercise plan for weekdays. I am really at a loss what to do. I have emailed my nutritionist and hope she replies me soon. Meanwhile I am taking 2 days rest as I have strained my back due to the intense exercise I have imposed last week. I am just keen to maintain my weight now but not sure how.

Hi Nazz, Yes, I do not understand well too. On my rest day I still burn 2k calories and I only took 1k but I gained 1 pound on that day but it could be water retained due to lack of sweating during my rest day then again I believe it is something to do with our metabolism. I think at the initial phase, we take very less calories vs normal person calories needed so we lose weight easily by burning fats and then as our body and metabolism get used to our daily intake it will not burn fats so we have to exercise to burn fats and the intensity keeps increasing as our body metabolism keeps up. I have talked to many normal active friends and they did a lot of exercise to burn their calories just to maintain their weight. I am 5 - 6 to my target weight so I am pushing hard and how I want to continue after reaching that, If I want to just stop at 10k steps and maintain my weight or to do more intense exercise to lose even more weight.

Hi nazz, I am also having a Fitbit scale and I find the body fat % not that accurate. I think the calories should not go over 1200 or 1300? In fact I am having less then 1000 a day. It could be a stall/plateau too. I took my weight daily which is not advised but I observe my weight will increase for 1-2 days and decrease for the rest of the week, could be water intake. But recently I discover that within a day, the walks I took in the evening that could burn off the calories I took in the day time , was not effective anymore. What I mean if usually I will also weight myself at the end of the day before my exercise and in the morning when I wake up and usually these 2 measurements will be same or + a little but recently I could see I gained 1 pound when I took my weight after work. So what I do now is that I do my walks in the morning and after work + 3 miles of walking when I am working in office. Like going to wash my cup every time after my drink and my lunch box and short walk ( 0.5 miles or less ) around my work place after lunch and at 4pm during tea break. I will also take the stairs up to my office at 4th floor. This make sure I am active and fat burning through out the day. During my weekends I will do 1.5 mile walk in the morning, then 0.7 mile walk at 11am, another 0.7 at noon , 1.5 mile 1-2 hours after lunch and then another 1.5 mile before dinner. What I am trying to do is to walk after I take meals ( small and main, except dinner ) to burn off the calories. Not sure if it makes sense but it works for me since 1 week ago when I practice this and I lost 3.5 pounds overall last week ( I gained 2.2 pounds 2 days last week so total I should lose 5.7 pounds ). I am not sure if it will continue but I hope so. Generally what I saw on the web , it was advice to either reduce carbo with more protein food or add some other form of exercise to combat stall/plateau.
  15. Hi, I am almost 6 months post op. My weight loss was gradually until recently I find it weird. I meet weight loss stall and I increase my walking distance to counter it . Hi we’re recently I had this issue. If I had to take some rest off the exercise and I notice the 1st day I gained 1lb!! Is this normal as I may think it’s my body regaining the water due to me not exercising. I am trying to rest few more days and see how my weight goes.

    So far so good

Hi nazz, My usual loss before we were talking is 0.4 lb a day and I walked around 2 miles a day. Until last Sunday I gained 1lb and after our discussion, I decided to increase my intensity to 3 miles on the treadmil off work. I also ended up trying to walk during work and I walked around 5+ miles in total during and off work and the result is I lose 1lb everyday during weekdays when I am more active ( active in a sense I will walk to get water and wash my cup many times resulting around 250 steps at least per hour and I take 2 x 1/2 miles walk around office once after lunch and once during afternoon tea time. I also take stairs up to my office 3 times ). As compared to weekends, I am less active and always lie on the bed thus very much less active. I think this is the reason I gained weight due to lack of activity and water retaining due to lack of activity to lose them as sweat.
  17. What I mean is during weekends I do not exercise as much as weekdays and due to that I gained weight! It happened recently. Is this normal?

    So far so good

Hi nazz, I managed to walk 3 miles on treadmil and another 3 during work. I achieved 10,000 steps per day and lose almost 1 lb a day. However when weekend comes I tend to reduce the walking and I gained 1lb today. What do you think? My body gaining water? I plan to take rest for few days and see what happens. Any one can explain why I gain 1 lb when I exercise less? Will I continue to gain 1lb a day if I do not exercise or will stop at some point?

    So far so good

Thanks nazz! I am still on my diet except for this weekend I had some unhealthy food due to celebrations at home and I stop loosing for that day probably also I did not do much walking due to body not well. Guess I should walk more and keep to my diet and not stray off to take some unhealthy nibbles of food. I should try to walk 1.2 miles in the morning, another 1.2 miles at night and walk around after lunch. It would take me 40 mins to get 1.2 mile as I was already having issues with walking before my operation. I could not even balance while standing still.

Hi, I am similar. I had my sleeve 12/11/17. Was 332 and down to currently 231 and I am 5’7. I used to walk 1.2 miles a day and I am steadily losing but somehow I hit a still and I had to do 0.6 in the morning and 1.2 in the evening. After 2 weeks I feel I hit a stall again. I gained 1 lb today and I found that if I take a day off from walking I will gain 1lb. Is this normal?

    Late December Sleevers?

Hi, I had my sleeve on 11 Dec 2017. I am from Singapore. 332 lb pre starting the pre op diet 320 lb right after op 300 lb 3 weeks post op 293 lb 5 weeks post op When I went for my 1st appoint 3 weeks post op, the staff at the hospital told me that I am expected to lose more so I got depressed. I had few days where the weight does not go down, generally when I am sick with flu or cold which made me feel down however I am starting to get used to these short pleatu and try to adjust my diet I am currently at 63-70g of protein and 800-850 calories daily. I hope to lose 130 lb with the 12-18 months window so my weight will be 200 lb from this surgery and then lose more by my own there after.
