  1. Hello,
The therapist told me he's never met a patient that regretted having the surgery--I may!
I had a sleeve Feb 23. I've had a hard time transitioning to soft foods, so am doing a a combo of liquid and some soft food (scrambled eggs, etc.). I'm having fewer then 1,000 calories/day (around 800).
I lost weight on the pre-surgical liquid diet and a little bit the 1st week when I ONLY had calorie free Vitamin Water the whole week because I couldn't tolerate even thin liquids. Since then, I've only lost ONE POUND.
I'm more hungry than I was pre-surgery, I don't eat large amounts, I never fever feel full when eating, I start sweating and get lightheaded when eating (dumping syndrome without the bowel movements), and I end up belching until I vomit if it's anything more than the Protein Shake.
Any advice? Am I doing something wrong?

I lost weight the first week post op and then nothing at all for the three weeks following. It was torture and I regretted my surgery at that point. Now I’m much farther along and I am in a much happier place. I can eat like a normal person just very small portions. So far the weight loss pattern for me is: lose 12 lbs in a week, stall for 3 weeks, lose 12 in one week, stall again. My surgery was 1/17 so I’m 8.5 weeks post op and I’ve lost a total of 24 lbs. Have a feeling I’ll be stalled for another 2 weeks before I lose anymore. We are all different and lose differently so don’t stress too much.

  2. my heavy weight was 426, surgery weight was 405 I’m now about 4.5 months out from surgery and now weight 346. I feel like I’m losing slower than I should some feedback would be helpful

My surgeon has a chart of where we should be at 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year post op. It’s based on your total excess weight. I have been told that the first 6 months are the most crucial. Whatever you lose in those 6 months, you will lose 50% of that in months 7-12. All that being said, stick to your diet and keep the faith and you will succeed!

  3. I moved through my stages a little quicker than expected but my nutritionist gave me the go ahead. I wouldn’t be too concerned about that. The Doritos and chewing and spitting is the concerning part. Junk food three weeks after surgery is not good. I would make an appointment with your nutritionist and/or therapist as soon as possible. You do not want to get back to old habits. Just remember, this is a learning process. we all make mistakes. It’s how we recover from them that counts. You’ve got this!

  4. - I want to weigh less than my husband and be able to wear his jackets/sweatshirts/t-shirts. I hate it when I'm cold and he offers me his jacket and I feel embarrassed to put it on because Lord knows I can't zip it! (can I get an amen?!) [emoji6] I don't want people to look at us like, how did that fat girl get with that guy who's in such good shape?!
    - Tall boots
    - Leggings, y'all! I want to wear leggings!
    - To be able to keep up with my nephews and my niece without having to rest.

Yesssss!! I’m not married but I would like to date and it would be really nice to know that I can fit into a guys jacket! Love those movies when the woman wakes up next to a guy and puts his shirt on and it looks like a dress. I want that!! Just dreaming over here lol.

  5. That was going to be my suggestion that,or a massage. New hairdo, maybe a garden show, a trip,to a nearby locale you haven't been to before. There are places in my state, I didn't have the endurance to do before..How about a movie you've wanted to see, a concert, a stage show?

I love the idea of going to see a play or concert! New hairdo is a great idea as well. Thank you so much! Lots of great things to think about.

  6. I have made goals for myself to keep me motivated throughout this process. My nutritionist has given me a 3 month, 6 month and one year goal but I also made some mini goals in between. I am looking for suggestions on the rewards. Going out to a nice dinner is no longer a great reward lol. I also don’t want to buy too many new clothes until I get closer to my goal weight. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Today I hit my first goal and my reward is a spa day. Can’t wait to schedule it!

  7. I am looking forward to never having to think about weight limits!!!! Especially when it comes to furniture. I hate looking at a chair and thinking to myself “if I sit on that will it break?”

Horse back riding! I wanted to go horse back ridding while I was in Vermont last year. I was 30 lbs over the weight limit. Now I’m just 6 lbs over! So close!

Hiking anywhere and being able to keep up. I love to hike but I’m always afraid I won’t be able to make it to the end of the trail or over the rocks.

I can’t wait for my feet to shrink and to be able to buy regular boots and not the wide calf boots.

Smaller fingers! I have always dreaded the moment when I finally get engaged and the ring not fitting. I’ve never been close to getting engaged but for some reason this has always been a fear of mine.

Feeling confident enough to date. With online dating I’m always afraid that once the guy sees me he will run.

Buying regular clothes. I really want to be able to walk into a boutique and actually fit into the clothes. I want to be able to wear a bathing suit without a cover up on.

  8. Glad you’re staying positive. As time goes on, the weight loss really adds up. Even more noticeable is how different clothes fit even with just an additional 8-10 pounds lost. I had 24w jeans I couldn’t squeeze into before surgery. I am now out of them. They were falling off. I am now wearing size 20w jeans and have room. My surgery was 12/28/17. More good things are coming your way. [emoji253]

Thank you so much for the encouragement! It is so great to hear success stories.

  9. 7 weeks out and I’ve only lost 23 lbs. I say only because I wish it was more but I am also very happy with my results. Couldn’t have lost that much without surgery and I know I will continue to lose more. It’s a slower process than I thought it would be but staying positive

  10. I probably will buy some from the Bariatric Pal Store, prices seem good and they have a wide variety of items. I am allergic to chocolate and a lot of the bars etc at Wally World are chocolate containing. I'd like something like lemon, orange or strawberry bars. Or even a mixed berry, funny but candy or even artificial candy has, lost its appeal. Maybe since i've been paying more attention to nutrition I've gotten smarter?

I’ve seen quite a few bars that are fruity flavors. Quest has flavors like blueberry muffin. Same with rxbars and Power Crunch. My local grocery store has a ton of bars you can buy individually which is so helpful.

  12. My dietician told me no caffeine because it's a diuretic. It's so important to remain hydrated, and the only way to do that is small sips of Water am day long. The caffeine will dehydrate you, and you will be scrambling to get and keep your Fluid levels optimal.

That is all true. I am way past sipping Water. I am now able to drink a bottle of water like a normal person lol. Drinking enough fluids is no longer an issue so I am not afraid of becoming dehydrated if I have regular coffee.

  13. Hey, I am new to the site. Was sleeved on 1/17. Surgery was great and have lost a lot of weight so far. Not having much trouble with the not eating part of things, but would love to have a cup of coffee or tea. For some reason I am craving it even though my nutritionist told me to wait 6 months at least. Have read on several other forums that coffee/tea is okay. My doctor even said it is okay, but curious what you all have been told? seems like it might be a different story with each nutritionist. Any input would be appreciated.

I was also sleeved on 1/17!! I was told to wait 6 weeks for caffeine but Decaf is ok. I have been drinking half caf for a week or so.

  14. Two weeks should be ok but I would suggest 3 if possible. I was exhausted for 3 weeks.

I was allowed to try any food I would like, focusing on nutrition and Protein of course, at 5 weeks post op. I am taking it slow and adding new healthy foods when I can.

I have yet to vomit in this entire process. I have had very uncomfortable stomach pains from eating too fast, too much or too dense of food. Not fun!

My surgeon recommended waiting 6 weeks post op before having any alcohol. This seems to be much less than others have stated. Lots of people on this forum will attack you for having any alcohol before one year post op. I am planning to wait as long as possible but also see no reason not to enjoy a little wine with friends here and there.

Any other question feel free to ask!

  15. The only person that took offense to that comment was you. I ask EVERYONE if they have been to the gym. Are you new? Haha I spread positivity. I remind people why we are here. Not to bash and assume. But to help. So, did you go to the gym today? [emoji4]

Just because you say your comments are “spreading positivity” doesn’t make it true. You honestly think that saying “did you go the the gym today or have you been on here searching through post all day” is spreading positivity? The original post, was that also somehow a positive?

No I am not new but I don’t follow your posts like some groupie. I am sure glad I don’t considering your response to the person who referenced an old comment of yours. You were definitely spreading the positivity in those comments (insert eye roll).

  16. Thank you sooooo much for this info. Right now I'm at the gym twice a week. Once for a Barre class and once with a trainer. I am going back to Protein Shakes for 2 meals. That should help I think. I need to up my gym days to 3-4 times a week even if it's just to use the treadmill.

You are doing awesome. My tips are all things I wish I would have done. I paid out of pocket so I didn’t have to do the 3-6 months with a dietician. From the first appointment with my doctor to surgery day was 14 days. I did a 10 day pre op diet where I cut out caffeine, had two Protein shakes and a small low carb meal. It was hard! The first 3 weeks of the post op diet were really hard for me too. Now that I’m almost 5 weeks post op my diet is much easier. I have been on soft foods for 2 weeks and can now start eating anything I want, slowly of course. I do agree with the person who posted after me, I wouldn’t go crazy with the protein shakes because you will get tired of them quickly when that’s all you can eat!!
