  1. These posts worry me a little. I’m 8 days out and I can gulp Water, feel little restriction and there hasn’t been a single food that has caused me any problems. The only effect from the surgery that I feel is lack of hunger. This may sound great to you if you are having difficulties, but I wonder if this surgery may not work for me. Is that possible? I have not eaten much and have been pretty good on my diet, so I’m good so far, but...

Don’t stress too much. Everybody is different.

Water is the only thing I can get down easily. I don’t really get hungry, but I feel my stomach gurgle when it’s about time for me to eat. I eat very little and very slowly. A few things haven’t sat well, and they came right back up.

Great question. I got my surgery on July 24- prior I would generally get my period every few months as a probable side effect of being overweight and in my late 30s- but post surgery it has come every 28-30 days on the dot. I was also told surgery increases fertility and my regularity seems to point towards this being the case for me

That must be true because I know SEVERAL ladies who struggled to have a baby before surgery. After, they got pregnant quickly!

  4. Hi there. I was wondering what people have experienced in their monthly cycle since having surgery. I tend to be fairly regular with timing each month, and how long it lasts, but I know a big reduction in caloric intake will definitely affect everything. Did you even get your period during the first month? Just curious about what to expect...thanks!

Good question. I’d love to hear the answer. I’m not far enough out to know. I do know that they took me off my bc after surgery and I had the longest, heaviest flow that I’ve ever had! Ever! It was awful!

I'm not trying to be a bad influence - as all others qualify, follow your doctor's/nutritionist's advice. Mine had a worksheet that liste suggested foods, and 'foods that MAY cause distress'. Full fat dairy was listed the may cause distress box for my pureed stage. I risked it, and it didn't bother me. Everyone is different. Stay strong.

I didn’t get a list. That was just a suggestion. I’m usually good with dairy. Not lactose intolerant or anything. That wasn’t the first string cheese that I’d eaten that I puked up. Idk what the deal was. I had some puréed chicken salad that made my tummy go crazy, too. Puréed beef veggie Soup with soggy crackers was fine. It’s a learning experience.

Yep. Weird, isn't it? You may as well tell me I can eat a tablespoon of ketchup.

Lol! It is a little strange, but at this point, I’d go for a spoon of ketchup if it would go down easily! Lol!

So I heard if you eat too much or to fast you get severe stomach pains. What has I.T been like for you guys?

I ate about 1/4 of a lean cuisine last night and felt very sick after a few hours vomiting and other bodily actions occurred all night and day. I.T seems as if I have a stomach bug and am worried about dehydration. Anyone have any issues like this during month 1?

I threw up a string cheese yesterday. I think I was already too full. I agree with the salivating mouth. Now I’m scared to eat very much at all!

I love Protein2o as well. My biggest suggestion (and I'm about a week post-surgery) is to do your research for the first few weeks--shakes, Vitamins, etc. I tried different samples of shakes and Protein options. I was on Pinterest forever reading all sorts of different ideas. Of course you'll have a ton of ideas, but you'll just have to go through all the information and suggestions from everyone and take the ones that you feel are best for you.

After my research, I bought the shakes and drinks that I liked. Bought other things that I would be able to eat. So I had everything stocked and ready to go.

I will add that I tried the Tespo machine that gives you the liquid shots of Vitamins. I didn't care for it at all. I initially didn't think about the fact that you're only getting an allowance of 4 oz of liquid at a time, but you have multiple vitamins with the machine, which ended up being 6 oz or more. Just didn't seem worth it to me to take up my liquids with that.

I was wondering about the Tespo. Especially since the Vitamin cartridges are $$$!

    Hey guys, question

    When people say,

Oh I lost 80 pounds in 4 months, or I lost 100 pounds in 6 months, I tend to wonder if that is how much they lost since surgery, or since it all, pre surgery preop diet, since surgery , entirely

When you say, you've lost X amount of pounds, are you counting down from surgery date, or pre surgery diet and since surgery?

    Just curious

What a GREAT question! (I’m looking forward to tacos, btw! Lol!) I didn’t have to lose beforehand. Actually, I had to gain bc I didn’t have two comorbidities. I’m only counting what I lost on my pre-op liquid week and since surgery. I kinda feel better knowing others are counting before them bc I was feeling a little like a failure. Even though I’m eight whole days out! Thanks for the good question!

    Hey everyone!

After 10 years of dieting and losing tons of weight, just to put it back on, I'm finally considering gastric sleeve now. I'm about 300lbs.

While I hear lots of great things about it, there is one thing that's quite scary to me:
People are complaining that they feel hungry all the time afterwards in the long run.

I'm scared I'll just ditch calorie counting + feeling hungry for surgery + feeling hungry. And I know that hunger makes me not function properly and can have negative effects on my mental well being and the body. I started to think about this because of a lot of negative feedback on this topic here https://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/how-i-eat-at-two-years-post-op-vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy.html
It seems to me that a lot people gain a bit of weight back (which is expected) and are afraid to gain even more, because their appetite is so high. They even talk about the fear of the stomach stretching to they can eat a lot more. Can anyone chip in on this?
While I might be obese, I feel like a mentally stable person, by not starving/not being hungry anymore. So I would not want to end up losing that.

And the other thing (which is not that scary to me):
Can I ever eat "normal" again? Going out with friends for a burger or a pizza? Basically having a regular sized meal?
Like I said, this is just a minor point compared to the benefits of the surgery, but the first point really makes me think.

I know being obese is a serious situation and gastric sleeve is probably going to help me a lot in that regard, but I still want to make sure I'll be on a good way mentally too afterwards, I hope you understand. I would be so very thankful for some of your honest opinions on this, please don't hold back. Much appreciated and merry christmas!

I just got sleeved a week ago, so I can’t tell you everything from experience. However I have TONS of sleeved friends (hello! I’m a teacher! Lol!) and I haven’t heard them complaining about being hungry. Just like everyone else, when you’re hungry eat. Just be more mindful of what’s going in there. They eat pizza and anything else. (god, I can’t wait to eat pizza and tacos!)I think moderation is key.

Is that how much the sleeve cost?$25,000?

The guy at the hospital quoted me something like $26,000 something. I’m not exactly sure because he said the number and I was SO shocked! Maybe it is, if BCBS will pay $25,000 and I had to pay around $2,000?

  12. Ok, I was sleeved on 12/28/17, and after 7 days I was allowed to go on to pureed foods. I know a lot of people are looking forward to this stage, or at least thinking about it. It may be a little fast for me, but I was told to try scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, etc. as I could tolerate them. I'm looking for tips and ideas, as well as willing to share my own. I'm doing my shake for Breakfast. Scrambled eggs were disappointing. I made some deviled eggs, but those hit me hard in the stomach. Vienna sausages, apple sauce, and skim milk make up most of the "solid" food I can handle at this point. I did have some refried Beans one day, and string cheese. I do want to try EggFace's Ricatta Bake, but I haven't made it to the store lately. Any ideas are appreciated.

I’ll be two weeks Tuesday and my nutritionist says I can start purée then. I’m, so tired of not real food, I find myself not eating at all, instead of the yogurt or shake. Also I’ve been drinking this Protein Water and I think it gives me gas. Anybody else?

Protien Water makes me burp a lot! And I'm getting sick of the tropical punch flavor. Gag! I do good wanting a shake for breakfast. It goes down pretty well. It's the rest of the day that is full of suprises!
