I’m just starting post op phase 2 in the next few days. I’m so excited for an egg! Haha. Sleeved 12/19/17.

I’m going to an all day conference in a week. I have no idea what will be served for lunch but it’s just pretty much going to be one choice. So, I know I most likely just need to bring my own food. What travels well that I could easily carry around with me and eat for lunch but still feel part of eating lunch with the group?

Hey Little Bird! I’m a December 19 sleever. I’m super nervous about doing pre op during the holiday season. I just bought my Protein Powder from Nicholson Clinic. Now I have to figure out what and where to buy Protein Bars. I also need to go through my list of foods and figure something out cuz I would just eat chicken and broccoli every night! I need a little variety.

I just finally decided to tell everyone about my 12/19 sleeve. I was stressed about getting through the holidays anyway and then on top of that, keeping people in the dark and how do I hide it and all that goes with that.

I called on the phone and told a few key family members. I asked them to spread the word. The 2 people I told were surprisingly excited for me and thought I was a rockstar for doing it now!

My main reason for not wanting to tell anyone in the first place was I didn’t want to call any kind attention to myself especially my weight. Then I thought if I don’t tell people they are going to eventually figure it out which means they are going to talk about me/my weight more. So, I figured I would just tell people now and be done. Just work on my Protein and Water.

    Good luck!!!!

I had my sleeve on the 19th. I’ve been drinking Premier Protein and Water and protien2 infused water. Any other ideas?

Hi Everyone, I have had my grandkids for 3 days this week. Winding down and been off of here.
I had my first post op appointment yesterday. Got the staples out!! Plus I've lost 17 lbs since surgery.
I was 14 down for 6 days and felt stalled but kept doing the liquid diet. Then on Monday I got an early Christmas gift of down 3 lbs overnight! This to me was significant. Why? Cause my bouncing board is always 250 and this put me at 248!! It is nice to break thru that barrier. I'm still battling being tired. I need to get to the gym too cause brrr, it's cold here.

I feel your pain. I had to cook Thanksgiving dinner for family while on my pre-surgical liquid diet. I was starving, grumpy, my head felt like I was trying to think through cotton...and my husband, mom and daughter all said I wasn't myself. That I seemed vague and miserable and just washed out.
I felt washed out! Bigtime. I had a pretty miserable time with my liquid diet if I'm honest. But surgery went really really well....I recovered really rapidly.
You are halfway there. You can do this. Surgery will be a tough day or two...but then, it's just a matter of doing your checklist diligently, and you'll be on the mend in no time. Sip, walk, suck (on the lung clearing thingy). Just keep sipping and walking.
At least after surgery, you have a clear objective and no turning back. Before hand...I understand how maddening it is. Those two weeks were one of the hardest things I've ever done. Particularly, Thanksgiving.
But think of this....How tough and resolved do you have to be to get through this? You're a bariatric rock star. Facing Christmas and sticking to your diet....proves you've got serious moxie and that nothing is gonna derail you.
I know it's hard as hell. But you've got this. You really do. Take it an hour at a time when you have to....but you'll make it.

I was sleeved on 12/20.. having the same fight as you. I'm focusing on keeping my liquids up to prevent dehydration and working on Protein when I can. I tried some oikos triple zero greek yoghurt diluted with skim milk today..that was pretty good but I couldn't eat much of it.

I wash with Soap and Water and not covered. I’m 5 days post op and they are doing really well. I haven’t put a bra on yet cuz of the location of one of the incisions! I’ve been a tank top kinda gal. Yikes!

It was never a question for me. I was going to tell everyone and I have. That way, I control the dialog. What could they possible say behind my back that is worse than what they were saying behind my back when I was bigger. If people are going to be underhanded and deceitful in their dealings with me they were always that way and not worth my time. You do you. Tell who you want.
By having surgery and being open and honest about my experience, the ripple effect has helped at least 5 others that I know take that leap and have the surgery and their lives are changed forever, Now instead of getting together to eat out, we take a class, go zip lining, or spend the day at an amusement park.
    Tell your truth!

My sleeve is scheduled for dec 19. I’m nervous about all the holiday food and drink and cheer. I will be on pre op diet for most of the friend gatherings. I think I’m just not going to go which sucks. I keep trying to remind myself I’m just missing one holiday season and how much better the holidays will be next year!

Relax... we all have gone through this!! Trust me, it will be fine.
Everyone in the world besides us thinks this is the easy way out, the quickest way to lose weight without doing any work. Is that true? NOT AT ALL. This is forced Portion Control and it is tough, no doubt. Your relationship with food will change dramatically and it will be a constant shift of the way you eat and the way you THINK about food. Will it be tough? Sure. Will you regret it? I HIGHLY DOUBT IT.
If we could lose weight on our own, if our food addiction had not taken over our lives, we would all be a size 6 and pushing away a salad halfway through the meal. That's not us. We are food addicted and the inmates have taken over the asylum. This surgery will help you defeat that crazy insane need to eat. I didn't even want to LOOK at food for the first four months after surgery. Overeating after surgery? No way!! I didn't throw up once. Not once. And I was a crazy overeater, I would eat until I was full and then continue on...
You will begin to lose weight and your self-esteem will change completely. You'll see the changes and want more, crave more, work harder at it because those scales DON'T LIE and you will want to reach the goals faster. I'm serious. The day I crossed certain weight goals, I cried. The day I crossed 200 pounds, I sobbed. I couldn't get there on my own, through diet and exercise. This surgery helped me to reach weights I have not seen in years, decades!
I feel great, I look great, I shop at regular clothing stores, I walk up and down stairs without feeling like I want to die. I don't cover my body in clothes that look like tents, I'm not ashamed any longer. I don't let people define me by my size, I know I went that extra mile to make myself look and feel better, healthier, happier.
Don't be scared and don't listen to the horror stories. The complications that happen after this surgery are few and far between. Some people who are less healthy when they have the surgery generally have a few complications post, but the death after surgery is very very rare. I had a complication post surgery, my esophagus swelled after I went home and I vomited the first night, couldn't keep anything down. I went to the ER and got a steroid shot, and boom! I was home in 2 hours and never looked back. My blood pressure is normal, my A1C is normal, my cholesterol went down to normal levels. I take ZERO medication besides Vitamins.
You'll be fine. You'll take your vitamins, you'll take care of yourself, you'll miss some things sometimes but you will make up for it. Every once in a while you will overeat until you feel sick and you will learn your lesson. And you'll stay in touch with all of us on this site, you will ask the questions, you will rage, you will get stuck at a weight for a few weeks and whine and cry, you will hate the diet post surgery, etc. We have all gone through it. You will be fine.
Don't lose hope. Do the surgery. The gastric sleeve is safe and generally complication free. You're almost there. Don't quit. Every single person on this site was terrified pre-surgery. We all second-guessed ourselves. And post surgery? We are all thinner, healthier and happier!! Do we miss food? The overeating, wondrous quality of it? Sure. But do we miss our old heavy unhealthy bodies? NOT AT ALL.
Hang in there! You'll be great!
