I had my sleeve done on Monday 29/1/2018. Had a very bad first night of pain but it subsided the next day. Stayed 2 days in hospital. Started walking the next morning after surgery. Still only on Water and Clear Liquids. How is the paid for the rest of you?

I had my gallbladder removed at the same time and I'm one week out and I feel great today. Each day is a big improvement, hang in there!

  2. HI everyone! I had my surgery 1/25 and the whole process from start to beginning went super fast for me. From the time I decided to get info to the surgery was only 2.5 months and a month was waiting because of appointments because of holiday. I look at my husband and ask him... did I really do this. I'm still absorbing the fact that I did it. I did 2 week low carb diet prior to surgery and lost 15 lbs and since surgery I'm down 10 lbs but I think I'm going to stop monitoring it daily so I don't get discouraged when they slow down. I'm not hungry at all, just trying to kick the habit of going into the fridge. My nutritionalist and surgeon gave me to different diets for the two weeks after surgery so I'm kinda doing a mix of the two. I also had my gallbladder removed during sleeve. If anyone can help me with a few things, that would be great.

    1. When I drink or eat applesauce I feel like it just hits my stomach hard. then I get a feeling of air being moved around in my stomach and it either gurgles or I have to stretch to get it to go away or burp. Its not indigestion or acid , just air. Thoughts?

    2. How much Protein were you getting in the first week?

Thanks and I look forward to going through this journey with all of you

  3. Okay so I’m 3 days post op and getting close to goal on liquids but I have the following questions...
    1. How do I take my crushed medication when liquids only. It’s so nasty mixed in Water
    2. How are you getting Protein in with just liquids. My plan seems to be more concerned with liquids the first week and not so much with protein
    3. Have not had a bowel movement since 3 days before surgery. I’m not uncomfortable but know I need to get things moving.

    4. I had my gallbladder taken out the same time as my sleeve. I wouldn’t be in any pain if it wasn’t for my lower right abdomen. What happened there? Think that’s where they pulled stomach and gallbladder from? The incision by bellybutton doesn’t hurt as much as my insides do on my right Thank god for heating pad

    Thanks!

Congratulations on the approval! You will be having surgery tomorrow if everything goes right! I know that you are happy, I am 5 months out and the only thing that I wish is that I would have done it MUCH sooner! Drives me nuts because I used to work for the hospital that I did my surgery. Started working for a another hospital and went through their program and they ended up getting out of bariatrics altogether! Ended up having to go back to the other hospital ( would have gotten a 25% discount with my current employer) but oh well, thats life and at least I am 90 pounds lighter and feeling much better than I was over 6 months ago!! You will be just fine!:D

This is just what I needed to hear. Thank you

ive been running around getting work and other stuff done and it’s the first time in a week that I have paused and my nerves started getting the best of me

wow 90 lbs. that’s awesome. Do you mind telling me your stats? I would love to be down 90 6 months after surgery

  5. Soooo .....

After getting clearance from my endocrinologist and submitting to BCBSNC I got approval today :)

    11/29 - met with NUT

    12/5 - met with PYSCH

    12/6 - endoscopy, xray, bloodwork

    12/7 - met with PSYCH

    12/13 - ultrasound

    1/3 - H & P with surgeon - scheduled for 1/18

1/9 - submitted to BCBS - delay because of blizzard

1/12 - BCBS requested additional info before they review

1/15 - BCBS denied - requested clearance letter from endocrinologies bc thyroid level low

1/16 - new blood work and clearance letter from endo - rescheduled for 1/25

    1/18 - resubmitted to BCBS

    1/19 - approval from BCBS

just over 2 months to get it all going and finished :)

  6. Just an update for anyone that follows or looks for information regarding BCBSNC

    1/9 - submitted to BCBSNC

1/11- notice from BCBSNC it was pending (missing visit information within 12 months from PCP and endocrinologist) Needed these items before they could send it for review

1/12 - notice from BCBSNC that it was denied - needed the following items after review - Letter from surgeon that I understand this is a lifetime change and that I'm prepared - Also needed clearance for surgery from endocrinologist since my thyroid levels were low during last labwork

1/17 - After new lab work and meeting with Endocrinologist to get letter submitted again to BCBSNC - now waiting...

  7. Ok soooo I’m having my gallbladder taken out the same time I’m sleeved. My story to anyone that ask is I’m having gallbladder surgery We have so many nosy family member trying to figure out if I need to have someone constantly in the hospital with me. Can my husband leave after I’m situated after surgery and then pick me up the next day I know that sounds weird but the longer he’s not with me the better it will be. Otherwise people will want to visit me at the hospital

Has anyone had gallbladder removed separator before sleeves. If so. How long were you in hospital and what was similar or different from hospital stay & recovery

    Thanks

Pretty sure this is your WLS policy. Scroll down to page 6 for criteria.

    Yes, it is. Thank you

Hopefully the will approve now they can see that I've been to my pcp and endocrinologist within the last year. I'll keep everyone posted so that if anyone looks later they can see how it turned out.

  9. Thanks for all the help and input. Right now I'm planning on going in on Tues for preop. Dr. office said to move forward as if everything has been approved. They requested from the dr the 12 month for pcp and from my endocrinologist. They wanted to see that I've been with them the last 12 months since I have thyroid issue. Hopefully showing in the notes my weight as well as discussion will be enough to push it through. I'll keep you posted. Not sure if they will open on Monday since its a holiday. I sure hope so

Hi all Jan 8th sleevers. I just created a private Facebook group. Anyone can join but I wanted to make sure that everyone that was sleeved on Jan 8th knew about the facebook group and can join. I just now noticed that someone had made a facebook group as closed but not secret. I made mine secret and do not want others knowing my business. Please email me at seekinbigbadwolf@aol.com with your facebook name and I will send you an invite. You can also message me here. It is the only way to allow others to join since it is a secret group. Looking forward to starting a great group that will support each other!

Great! This is wonderful I was just getting read to ask about "secret" and "closed" group. I don't want anyone to be able to see my business or the groups I am a part of. I'll DM you my email so you can add me to the secret group

    Thanks!

  11. So I’ve done everything I was supposed to do with surgeon and they submitted to bcbsnc and now insurance is saying I need 12 month consecutive with weight loss. Why?!?!?! Would the surgeons office review all my paperwork at initial appointment have me do everything only to not have what I needed. I’ve paid for anesthetist endoscopy psych nut ultrasounds only not to use any of it if I have to wait 12 months. My pcp sent letter how I’ve been under his card for the last year and have not been able to lose weight and that it’s s medical necessity The language from insurance is obscure. Can anyone help with this. The last sentence is what gets me

“In advance of a commercially insured member receiving a bariatric surgical procedure, BCBSNC will first need to review the member’s medical records, including documentation of 12 consecutive months of active engagement in weight related treatment, as described above. Judgement regarding the scope, depth, and adequacy of pre-surgical treatment during the 12 months prior to surgery is at the discretion of the multidisciplinary weight loss surgery team, and BCBSNC does not specify the content of the treatment. “

    Have you heard anything?

I just found out from my insurance company they have the authorization request. Now I'm just waiting. They told me to call back on Thursday but I'll probably call tomorrow evening :) I'm very anxious especially since I need to make arrangements for next week if everything goes as planned. I haven't told my work yet so I need to give them a heads up that I'll be out but don't want to tell them anything unless I get approval.

    Have you heard anything?

Jan 15th here ! Going to Mexico! Could have gone sooner however due to work commitments and schedules, January works out better for me :)

January 18th for me. Was someone setting up a secret Facebook group?

I've bought a couple different Protein Drink flavors and I really like the Premier Protein. I'm currently on my preop diet which is high Protein, low carb in order to shrink the liver. Yesterday was hard but I figured I better suck it up and get a grip. Its only going to get harder before it gets better. Might as get a jump on the weight loss :)

Chapstick was another item people mentioned to bring

  14. I know I shouldn't be complaining but I'm starting my preop diet that is very low carb and high Protein. I'm finding it very difficult. My dr wants to make sure I'm eating my protein for some reason. I'm having a hard time doing "Atkins". I might need to have some of the sf Jello and drink some of the Protein Shakes to help me get into the "not hungry" mode. I have less than 2 weeks until surgery and I'm starting to wonder if I can do this...

Any helpful tips about doing low carb?
