  1. Are you able to get a different insurance? The insurance I had when I started my journey was not one I would use for this so I started the journey out of pocket and it turned out I was getting a new insurance and it was much better... so a couple month pre op I was able to use the new insurance that had better program... might be worth the money to buy your own insurance that would cover it.. just a thought... good luck!

How long were you off work post-op?

I had surgery (by pass) on January 30th and back to work February 6th.. I have a mostly desk job .... I did ok but was very tired. Yesterday was my 2 weeks since surgery,, still tire easily but from not taking in very many calories... the days I start a new stage I wait until I’m home to start them as I don’t want to have any negative effects while at work lol but it’s getting better!!!
  3. I’m so sorry that hear about what you are going through. I have major back issues as well and thank goodness no surgery’s for it... yet.. I would see if your insurance has any counseling that might help... also, maybe get back in touch with your Bariatric team? sending good thoughts and prayers your way....
  4. Fluffy chix.... who are you talking to?
  5. Hi! Hard to believe it’s only been 2 weeks today as I have been back to work a week already. But yesterday I started the puréed stage and was afraid to try anything at work other than yogurt. They said to spit out the chunks of fruit (or I could blended it more but not at work. I have 2T of oatmeal with protein powder and my almond milk (I’m allergic to dairy) so tonight is my big night... puréed chicken with a little broth for moisture.... funny... I’ve been “craving” broccoli lol I did have the boxed organic type during the full liquids... so far I have been doing awesome with things except water and sleep lol but I’m hoping with a little more time that will get better. I love brussel sprouts... I hadn’t thought of those!!! Sounds good!! Love hearing how you are doing.

    Issues with cold liquids?

I was just talking to my bariatric nurse today because I’m having problems getting water down (I used to drink a minimum of 128oz a day!) and she said she still has problems with cold water or any cold beverages. She said she gets what feels like a spasm.. I’ve been drinking room temp water and still can’t. Popsicles es do fine tho 😉 she is 2 yrs out.

  8. Ok, I was told about something and asked the surgeon and it was true at least for my surgeon... any of you get that rash under the belly (or breast, armpits, etc) I have had it a long time and was always told that it was from old c-sect scars but it’s actually a fungal thing that can become a major problem and I’ve just been lucky. I was told that everytime I get it now to go to regular doc and have it noted as when I’m at goal weight it is not considered cosmetic surgery but to keep from getting staff, even MRSA. And the surgeon will do a tummy tuck of sorts so there won’t be any drape to cause the rash... SCORE!!!! Just sayin..... other insurance or docs might be different... I do get it under th breast but don’t think I’ll be that lucky lol
  9. How soon are they starting you on the puréed stage after your surgery? I’m still on the full liquids until 2/12... then the puréed... i like the boxed soups with my powdered protein mixed in... very filling tho... I try to remember my insides are healing.. if I don’t get in all my protein then in a few days I will as I continue to heal inside.. I try and get it all in but I also have a lot of fat to live off of for a few days if I need to... you are doing by great!!!! Keep in touch!
  10. I had my RNY on 1/30/18 and my birthday was 1/12... I had already told my dietician that I had planned on going out to dinner and have my calamari and a salad and call it “ my last supper” lol for awhile anyways.. I already ate the way the liver shrinking diet so it wouldn’t mess it up too much and I had my own personal goal BEFORE my surgery... and I made it the morning of my surgery... when I went in a few days for the group pre op class I had them weigh me and was excited because I made sure I hadn’t screwed up any of my work prior to surgery... they know we will go up and down a little, that’s why we need the surgery but think about your “whys” and our whys taste so much better than any food 😊👍 congrats on your upcoming surgery!!!
  11. Hi Macky, i too had my surgery on the 30th and although I feel I’m having a hard time fitting in all the fluids and protein,,, I decided to just do the best I can because stressing about it makes me more .... worried.. broth is something I’ve come to really like and the popsicles helps a lot. I keep track of things in a special little book the program gave us. i also had the patch as it always had worked well for me. But now that’s all good. I feel good, better than I expected even!!!! Except for now I’m tired.. really tired but I’m making small trips to the mailbox, the stop sign at the end of my street... but mostly need to remember to be good to my body,, it went through a complete makeover on the inside. sounds like you are doing great now!! Keep us updated!! #teamjanuary30th we got this!

    Day 4 Post-op Issues

I was told that people who were able to have dairy before can’t after the surgery. I was already allergic to dairy so not one of my worries but I document everything I have, I have to take my temp/pulse 4x a day for first month as part of the program. i would for sure call your doc and keep track of things. I also had my rny on the 30th. I’m going slow to move to the different stages but because of my age I’m in no hurry to mess anything up.. I just try and remember that I just had a surgeon go in with a blender In my stomach and just need to heal.. 🤪 lol I have to go back to work on Tuesday so just plan on taking my “foods” and we have fresh water at work. I haven’t had any signs of dumping but going to take extra clothes .. just in case... 😬 i hope you are feeling better!!! Sending well wishes your way!

    Desperately need help

I would recommend talking to dr as well... have they ruled out gall stones? I had mine out in 1989 after years of not knowing what it was and because my gall bladder wasn’t in right spot the didn’t think of it... hope you can get some answers soon and feel better.
  14. Hi. Pre op I tried several protein powders as I am allergic to dairy (the protein in it) I did try the Vega and it tastes ok but made me VERY constipated ... took me over a month after stop using it to get back to “normal”. I use (and have for about 30 yrs) “spiru-tein “ protein powder,,, it is pea protein based, comes in different flavors.. I can add it to the butternut squash soup and is very good... the program had me try “Olly “ brand but I didn’t like it... and t didn’t feel like it had any protein in it (didn’t make me feel full) and tends to tastes a bit chalky.
  15. Ask your dr for some anti nausea med?

    Help!

My doc had my on 2 days of clear liquids then the “full liquids “ for 10 days .. I liked being able to get back to my protein drinks (I’m allergic to dairy so I’m using the one I’ve used for years) then after that the puréed stage for 2 weeks then “ soft chopped moist foods” for 3 weeks the back to regular food... March 19th lol they have it all planned for us. They say that if we don’t do well on the next step to go back a step and slowly add something from the next step. I like using the boxed butternut squash soup with a scoop of my protein powder mixed in.. I also put my crushed pill/supplements in it. Works well. i see my doc on Monday as I need to go back to work Tuesday and need his ok. Several people that work in the program said they were able to go back that soon but use lunch time as a nap lol we did this!!! Woohoo 🎉

    Surgery Jan 31

I so agree about the sleep. I came home on the 31st but last night was the first real sleep I’ve had since being home and it helped a lot. I think other than the tiredness,, things have gone well. Looking forward to see how you are doing Janet!
  18. Hi. How are you doing?
  19. Cowgirl12

    Help!

Sorry to hear what you are going through. I’m just 3 days post op but I did ask the dr about egg white when I get to that phase. I’ve been one to eat the yolks and he said it would be fine since it’s only the whites.. it’s the yolks that causes problems.. hope you are feeling better!
  20. I’m on post op 3 days now. The dr wants me to have a minimum of 60 g of protein. I am allergic to dairy products (the protein in it) and today I started the full liquids. I have always drank almond milk with my spiru-tein protein powder for about 30 yrs for breakfast. I tried 1 oz of just the almond milk plain to see how it would go and was fine. Then I added the protein powder in. Worked great. Also found it was good thickness to put any crushed supplements in. The dr says as long as I get my 3-4 “meals” with at least 20 g of protein then in between as much other fluids. He said it would be hard the first week or two. For my “lunch” I had a cup of the boxed butternut squash soup with a scoop of my protein powder in it. Tastes good and feel like getting some substance now. I have low blood sugar so I will be having more like 6 little meals and then the fluids in between. I wasn’t able to drink the full cup but over time I got most of it. I am tired today but getting a little more “solid” seems to help some. The chewable vitamin was surprisingly filling. I’m poking a hole in my vit D and squeezing it into the protein drinks. Works well. The program gave us a little to keep track of what and how much we are getting in and I’ve added a couple of my own things I’m tracking. (Bp/temp/pulse) at the top have the date and that mornings weight. this has been much better than I had expected but do tire easily but haven’t had a lot of sleep. i had gained about 8 lbs in the hospital due to the iv fluids but just about done with that. Almost back to morning of surgery weight... hope this may help in some way! Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.
  21. Hi guys, who would have thought our normal good drinking water could change so much.. lol I look at my old water bottle and wish I could chug the whole thing for water, but as I think that my new little tummy reminds me... not now!.... i found that water and broth is working best for me so far. I called the Bariatric nurse about the stuff I’m coughing up, and as I thought it was from the airtube down the throat causing irritation.. thick mucus with a little brown blood. It’s getting better. i am lucky that I have not( yet) had the gas bubbles... although I am peeing out the iv fluids and have to laugh... every time I do I weigh myself lol my tummy isn’t as bloated as earlier. my dr has us checking our temps/pulse and bp 4x a day.. i have the little pill cups on my nightstand and have 6 set out at a time, some with water, some with broth and some with the premiere protein water.. but now seems very sweet.. so watering it down a little. The nurse said just try and drink a little here and there as the tummy allows.. seems to be working. just a little update that I hope will help others.. #teamjanuary30th lol
  22. Congrats on the surgery. My dr told me as part of my going home yesterday from hospital that he didnt expect me to be even close to the 64oz for a couple of weeks so not to worry, just take in what can. I’m used to sipping on water/tea my whole life.. but now sipping is not the same. I can get down 1-2 oz and then I’m full. I was also told the water/broth/jello etc was part of my fluid count. I’m keeping track how much I’m drinking at this point. Tomorrow I go on full liquids and think that may help with more protein in my diet. let us know how you are doing. 😊

    Surgery Jan 31

I’m sorry you are in pain. How many days will you be in hospital? this is my second day since my surgery... feeling a bit sore, haven’t had the gas that I was expecting but I’m sure it will show up. Hang in there!! You are in my thoughts and prayers XOXO 💐
  24. Glad you are doing good.. I get the sore part.... but I had the patch behind ear so not nausea... kind of feels like a herd of horses are trotting by lol well not a herd but sore but not as bad I was expecting. when did you have your surgery?
  25. Finally!!!! I’m excited and nervous... not new to surgeries as I’m in late 50’s but now my new chapter! Been working towards this day since last July, paid the first 4 months out of pocket as I had an insurance at that time that I would no way have the surgery with (Kaiser) and feel extremely confident in the dr I do have.. his bariatric team is awesome! They now feel like family at this point. Hard part is I don’t have any family near me (I live in Hawai‘i) so a bit sad in that.... but the team is awesome and I know I can contact them anytime. It would be great to have a surgery buddy here.... I’m having the bypass... 😊 🎉🎉
