  1. I started at a BMI of 55.

I am 5 10 as well. I now weigh 185 and wear a 10/12 in pants and a medium in tops.

I could maybe lose another ten pounds if I went to being super diligent about carbs again. My body is happily maintaining here for a few months.

  2. The weight loss will slow its pace the closer you get to a more normal BMI.

It seems like the last 20 pounds I lost took six months, in comparison my first six months I lost well over 100 pounds.

The further out from surgery you are, the more you will be able to eat as well. Some of us have cravings return after a time post op as well.

Enjoy it while it lasts, as long as you are eating healthfully nutrition wise fast weight loss is a desired effect your first 12-18 months.

Two last concerns at this point - what if there's meaningful progress in a different tech over the next year - am i jumping the gun. thought i knew everything and tonight ran across endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty - anyone heard of or considered?

If you were diagnosed with Cancer, would you discuss waiting for treatment for a year or two in hopes that better treatments were available in the future?

Obesity is a disease and many people that have had surgery wish they had done so sooner, not later.

  4. Don’t forget, it is normal at this stage for some emotions to be running amuck.

Agree with above, focus on Water and staying hydrated. Increased Protein intake is going to come in time. If your friends are confusing you or overwhelming you with advice, just tell them you are following your surgeons plan and that is what you were advised to stick to.

If you were an emotional eater, this is a tumultuous time post op, but it will pass don’t worry! I had some crying jags and emotional peaks and lows following surgery, it is normal.

It does get better, be patient with yourself.

Do you mind if I ask which surgery you had and when you had your surgery?

Sent from my LG-Q710AL using BariatricPal mobile app

I had gastric bypass on 12/02/17.

My start weight at consult was 384, my surgery weight was 369.

I now weigh between 182-185. This was my surgeons goal, I may try for 175. I am 5’10” for reference.

I have gone from a 28 in pants and 4x in shirts to a 10/12 in pants and usually a medium now in tops.

I agree with above posters, I do get hungry but it takes much less to feel satiated and although I do still get cravings for things, it is easier to not eat those things now as I know they make me feel poorly, both physically and mentally.

  6. You will get used to it eventually, but it is definitely unnatural.

‘I agree with the above, I always make sure I order or cook something that will be moist if possible. If absolutely necessary I do take a tiny sip if I’m done eating. I also rinse my mouth or brush my teeth after eating which can help.

  7. So what is stopping you from seeking the counseling through work if you feel you need it? Is it anonymous or are you having a fear of being identified?

If you have problems with depression you don’t want to medicate with food, seek counsel or treatment through psychological therapy or medication if necessary.

Many of us are or have struggled with the same issues regarding food or we wouldn’t have needed surgery.

    Best wishes.

  8. Focus more on Beans, legumes, sweet potatoes, etc. You are going to find that your pouch likely is not going to tolerate much bread or Pasta anyways as these items have a way of expanding after eating and can make you feel full very quickly for not a lot of nutrition.

I am fifteen months out and still steer clear of bread but on special occasions I have eaten fresh made pasta 😀.

I get over 50g carbs a day, has not slowed my loss too much considering how close to goal I am.

  9. Would you let other people influence your decision on how to treat a complicated medical problem such as cancer or renal disease without a medical degree? No?

Obesity is a disease that is complex to treat and a bystanders opinion is of little value when it comes to your health. You need to decide what’s best for you.

  10. I had a lot of thinning especially at my temples and hairline. My hair is very thick and no one seemed to notice but me. The only time anyone said anything was a few months ago I was at work and all my baby hairs were wildly flying about everywhere...

The amount you lose will vary and how noticeable it is depends on how much hair you start with. Mine is growing back now I am fifteen months out, so it is temporary for most of us.

Losing a bit of hair, loose skin and all, I would not change my decision.

  11. It seems to be not recommended. The surgeon I went to no longer places them as stated above.

We do have people here that have had no issues and you can look in the surgery specific boards, but there are tons of posts about people that had to revise due to complications. Of course, you can have complications from any surgery.

So is this cold feet or do you need to postpone and do some research before you decide to have this surgery Saturday? Good luck!

  12. Same. I can eat more items like Soups, casseroles, Pasta dishes, etc. I always feel more restriction if I start with dense Protein or eat a salad with say chicken or shrimp on it.

I do find as I am now 15 months out I can certainly eat a bit more than I could a year ago, but this is normal. You may also find on some days you can eat more than others, days I can eat less are “small pouch” days.

If you are someone that had an overeating problem before surgery...eating until feeling very full and stuffed, you will not feel that type of fullness now. Once I start to feel disinterested in my meal that is a sign I am done, if I keep eating I hiccup once, which means my pouch is done.

I have tolerated all foods...it does NOT mean you will not lose your weight so do not despair.
