KHPE Flex POS (through work) covered?

Every insurance plan is required to supply you with a Summary of Benefits document. Normally it can be found online but can be difficult to find. Occasionally it is in print and mailed, but this has become a rarer thing nowadays. A summary of benefits regarding your health insurance may have been given to you with hiring paperwork, or during an open enrollment period at your place of employment. Certainly you can call, but you should be able to have this and know what you would be expected to pay for all tests, imaging studies, inpatient stays, etc.

    I just can't get warm!

I am always cold now. My surgeon says I lost a lot of my insulation. Not sure there is a fix. I’m over 14 months out, labs are ok. 🤷‍♀️

    It gets easier. 😀

    Throwing up when brushing teeth

This comment is inappropriate and does not help the original poster in anyway with the topic she posted. Some thoughts are better left to yourself.

nutritionist FINALLY agreed to see me.

Interesting. I only saw one for pre op myself. Have not seen one since. My insurance has me paying 295 a visit to see one out of pocket so yeah

    Prepare for VSG

Not everyone will feel good right away after surgery, sorry to disagree. If you are an emotional eater, you may struggle directly after surgery with coping as a mechanism you have used to deal with feelings/emotions can no longer be used...I.e. food. This, coupled with some rapid weight loss in the first few weeks causes some emotional and hormonal happenings that we have seen on here, and many of us have experienced first hand. So do try to mentally prepare yourself for that. See a therapist if one is available to you. Also, not drinking with meals is an abnormal behavior that is difficult to do with a normal size stomach. I would focus on cutting out soda, or drinking without a straw right now.

    Water intake after Sleeve

Yes, it will be difficult to drink a gallon of water a day directly after a surgery that removes most of your stomach. You will be able to increase the amount you drink each day. We have many people here able to drink that and many of us that do not.

    Long term questions

I am just over 14 months out. I can eat anything. I do not eat bread or pasta, or mainly these types of carbohydrates as they fill and expand my pouch for not a lot of nutrient pay off. I may on rare occasion eat a small amount of rice or naan if I go to this great Indian place I know tho. It’s all about what you enjoy. I did not drink before surgery, I do not now so I cannot speak to that. I do on special occasions have small amounts of desserts, but I avoid bringing my trigger foods into my home. I no longer drink soda or other carbonated beverages, once I gave up my life long Diet Coke addiction I decided it was easier just to stay away forever. I tried some sparkling water, but I do find it makes me uncomfortable. I chew gum at work with no issue after I eat until I can drink my water.

    Yogurt

I like the yoplait “yo” yogurt. It is not Greek but is made with the ultra filtered milk so is higher in protein and low in sugar. I have only tried the vanilla and lime so cannot speak for the other flavors but they sell out every time they are on sale. Some Greek yogurts are too sour for me, so this is a nice change.

    HELP VSG or RNY

Many of the topics you are posting questions about are covered by informational meetings preoperatively. Vitamin regimens, progression of diets, specific hormone and metabolic impacts of each surgery....all of these things were covered in pre op classes for most patients that go through bariatric classes. If you have yet to choose a surgeon or go through a program, you may be putting the cart before the horse.

    HELP VSG or RNY

Have you been to a preoperative meeting? Many programs have preoperative meetings that discuss the differences between the various weight loss surgeries. The information may be given to you by the surgeon or a bariatric coordinator in his office. It is a good place to start your research on which surgery could be right for you.
  15. Yes. As above, programs vary and you should follow your surgeons instructions.

How long have you been obese?

I have been obese since I was about 12. I remember going to weight watchers at that age. I do think it is completely different perspective wise for those that have been obese their whole adult life. I am shocked now when I see myself, I look small to people that have known me now that I am at a more normal weight. I still worry about chairs with arms and stuff like that but the reality is I don’t need to. Old habits die hard either way.

    Three meals a day

Overfull for me was always a chest pain type feeling, like I swallowed a basketball. Has not happened in a long time. Liquids, even thin protein shakes, pass through the pouch fairly quickly in normal circumstances. You say you were still having pain on the left side. It is unclear to me if the pain was there and made worse by your eating or if the pain appeared after your two “meals”. Hope you feel better either way.
  18. You can find more pictures of this on Instagram as well.

    Confused

You should be able to take the report to your primary care doctor and discuss the results. Once you are discharged from the hospital, a Hospitalist is not in charge of your care any longer and that is why after discharge you are often referred to follow up with specialists and also your PCP.

    ❤ FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Gastric bypass: Surgery date 12/2/17....still losing....slowly losing February start weight: 194 pounds Challenge goal: 189 pounds Accepting no junk food challenge. For exercise portion, my goals will be more centered on increasing my number of days going to the gym which I have really slacked off on the last few weeks. I realize the weight goal will be super tough to hit for me at this point, but I’m ok with that! I’m fighting every pound at this stage and if I only lose two or three pounds that’s ok. Cant wait to see everyone else’s posts and progress, especially fresh post ops who usually have such rapid results! Lets do this!

    4 days and counting

Gummy vitamins are not recommended post op bypass. They do not meet your vitamin requirements. A modest budget chewable, centrum chewable adult multivitamin is a better choice. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!
  22. It depends on your insurance and your surgeon. My surgeon would not operate if we gained weight during the six months. Insurance varies but usually is based on first weight for surgery requirements.
  23. The old what weighs more one pound of lead or one pound of feathers? Very unlikely someone gains three pounds of muscle in one month. It is likely water retention.
  24. The ingredients list filtered skim milk as the second ingredient. Maybe there is a link to a lactose free version?
  25. Don’t seek reassurance from strangers to advance your diet early. You are an adult. Either call your team and ask or don’t and face your consequences. What one person did could put someone else in the hospital, who knows.
