Thanks for asking. I’m feeling much better. I’m able to eat solid food now, and I started walking 10 minutes twice a day this week. I still have some pain on the left side and I still have to take my anti nausea meds 2-3 times a week, but there’s a huge improvement and considering where I cane from, I’m doing great!

Did you have rny? How did you find out you had a leak? I'm so scared of that!

Sent from my LGMP450 using BariatricPal mobile app

I did have RNY. I became really sick and couldn’t eat or drink and I had horrible pain on my left side. Also, I couldn’t take a deep breath. They did a cat scan and found the leak. After surgery I was in the hospital 29 days. It’s been a long process getting better.

  3. Hello,

My surgery was Dec. 13 and I’m down 57 pounds. It’s been really rough for me. I had a leak and almost died and I’m still recovering. I’m improving little by little, very slowly.

My weight loss has been good, and I’m really happy with it. I’ve just hit my first stall, but I know to just keep working on it and it will eventually pass.

  4. I had my revision from lap band to a bypass on Dec. 12th In Mexico, The surgery went fine and I’ve had some normal issues, nausea, left pain, and tired, nothing horrible. But going into the third week when I started puréed foods the nausea started getting really bad and my back hurt so much I literally couldn’t catch my breath. I went to my Dr who had agreed to do my follow up I the states and got a prescription for pain and nausea, he also said I needed a CT scan, which I scheduled for 5 days later. I didn’t feel it was an emergency, and the Dr said “as a precaution “ so I wasn’t in a hut.

Well, Yesterday I get a phone call to go to the hospital ASAP I had a leak! My phone call came st 2:30 and by 6:00 I was in the operating room. I was so scared, the Dr came right out and said that this is life or death, I went in for exploratory laproscopic with the understanding that he may have to open me up to find the leak. I was very fortunate that his first try was where the leak was. He flushed out the area and removed the abscess, and drained 85cc of pus from the area. He said I was very lucky it had been contained to one area.

He put a feeding tube in the part of the stomach not bypassed and I will be on a feeding tube for at least 4 weeks. I can’t even drink Water so that all the infection can heal. I also saw an infection control dr. And he put me on 3 different IV antibiotics for 3 weeks minimum. I’m in ICU now, and a little confused if I will need to stay in the hospital or will be able to have home nursing. It’s too soon to tell. But he said I could be on the hospital for up to a month. I’m really confused, I’m on a morphine pump which isn’t helping.

The Dr said leaks happen and it has nothing to do with the skill of the surgeon or following directions, which I have to a T. But leaks are a very big deal! I thought the leak would be repaired and then things go bank to normal. I never thought I would be the 1.5% to develop a leak. I’m strong and usually bounce back quickly, but this has me on my butt! And I have a very long recovery road ahead. I’m so scared the infection may spread and poison my body and I’ll die.

I guess I just needed to rant a little and make sure everyone understands you could be part of the 1 percent.

  5. I was 3 weeks out yesterday and suffer from nausea all the time. Yesterday I saw my Dr. and he gave me a prescription from Zofran and I feel so much better today. I was so sick I could barely leave my bed, but today I was able to eat and run a few errands. He only gave me 20 pills so I’m really hoping by the time I run out of pills the nausea will have passed.

i really hope you get relief soon.

  6. Help! I'm five days post-op and have had terrible dumping. Yesterday and today I omitted my clear whey Protein, and no problem. But now what should I do for Protein? I went to the health food store today and all clear liquid has whey in it. I'm four days out from full liquid. I"ve contacted my Dr. office and am waiting for a reply from them.

Has anyone used a Protein Powder this early on and just watered it down a lot? I don't want to hurt my pouch. Since I stopped the whey yesterday I've felt so much better. No dumping, and no horrible gas pains. I'm still sore, but able to walk just fine. All in all, I'm happy with my recovery.

Any advice you could give will be greatly appreciated!!

Hey there! So I’m 3 days post op today. I started liquids yesterday and it went right thru me! Terrible diarrhea. I don’t know if I drank it too fast and that was a dumping reaction or why it happened. I felt no restriction when I was drinking. I’m anxious to talk to the Dr today. The Nurses here don’t speak English so I was unable to ask them.

i should be released today, go to my hotel in San Diego, then fly home tomorrow. The pain is bearable, but they are removing the bandages and drain this morning so I think I’ll feel better. My glucose is low, so they just brought me a big cup of apple juice. Yummy!!

im going to try to ease off the pain meds because I can’t stay awake. All in all, the last three days have been rough, but not unbearable. I just keep looking forward knowing these next few weeks are a very small sacrifice compared to my new healthy body!!

So now it is 5 days post op, and I'm finally home! The plane ride was horrible, and I didn't drink enough so was dehydrated by the time I got home, but it is so nice to be home! I found out it was the whey in Isopure and the sugar in the juice that was giving me dumping syndrome! I've put a call into my Dr. to see what I need to do for Protein until I can go to full liquids in four days.

    Beware of the sugar!!!

Other than that, I walked a lot today, have had little pain, no nausea, and no dumping, so things are definitely improving. Also, I haven't napped today, so I think I'm getting back on schedule.

  9. Today is the day!!! I got into Tijuana yesterday, got my bloodwork, chest X-ray, and barium swallow done. I’m checked into the hospital, the IV is hooked up, and they just did the final EKG so I’m ready to go!! Surgery is scheduled at 9:00 AM!!!!

I’m so scared but after meeting my team of Dr.s I’m convinced I chose the right place. Dr Lopez Corvala was very kind and spent a lot of time answering my questions, the hospital is beautiful, and the staff attentive.

I’ll check back in as soon as I can and let you know how everything went.

  10. I've been thinking about doing the meal mentor, also. I'm glad you like it, I think I'm going to subscribe, also. My surgery is scheduled for Dec. 12th...I'm really trying to make sure I have everything organized before then.

Forty pounds!!! That's awesome!! Congratulations, and I can't wait to continue following your progress!

    Hello Roadrunner,

    Congratulations on your surgery date.

I have not been able to find a food menu for the Proteinaholic book either. At first, we can't eat from his menu.

i have been able to get my Protein in. However, i have not been just plant based. No meats, but cottage cheese, yogurts ect. Since I'm just 7 weeks out, i copped out and ate dairy.

I do eat legumes, Peanut Butter, nuts now, so that helps.

That’s great! Thanks for replying. How are you feeling? How is the weight loss going? I’m curious if vegans lose at the same rate as others.

  12. So, I’m 16 days from my surgery!! This weekend I went shopping and got my Protein Powder and drink, Clear Liquids, and made veggie broth and popsicles.

I’m getting really excited!! I’m leaving on a cruise this weekend, get back on Sunday the 10th, and leave Monday for Mexico. I only have to do 24 hours liquid but I can’t gain any weight so I’ve got to be super careful on the cruise.

    It’s getting real!!!!
