  1. I think the overuse of "thoughts and prayers" make it very disingenuous. Politicians use that tired old phrase all of the time and hardly care. Instead of thoughts and prayers, offer solutions!
  2. Wow that's frightening! I am so glad that your daughter was not seriously hurt!
  3. I am an atheist as well but sometimes you have to consider that the intention is one of care and consideration. Life is too short to sweat the small details. As long as the intention of the person is good, then I can easily see the forest for the trees.
  4. This is a tough question to answer because each person's post-op experience is radically different. I was fine for the first 5 weeks and then I developed a stricture and an H. Pylori infection. The next four weeks were utter misery. It was nice simply having someone able to help out with chores like laundry and meal preparation. My best advice is to simply be there for your husband and ask him if there is anything you can do to help and offer help as well. That alone will be the best that you can do. He could have a really smooth ride and be ready to head back to work in two weeks, or it could be a little more drawn out like my recovery. I am just now ready to go back to work and I am planning to go back to driving tractor trailers because work is plentiful. I lined up a gig with Schneider and I start again on July 2nd. Now that I am 63 pounds lighter from my heaviest, I'll bet getting up and down those truck stairs will be SO much easier.
  5. This isn't really a favor. He is kind of a friend anyways, yes? I am surprised he hasn't offered or insisted on visiting you after surgery. Shoot, if it was me I would've insisted.
  6. I was worried when I read the first line of your post. I am glad you have someone that is taking you to and from the hospital. Maybe your roommate will hang around and just visit you after surgery? Maybe ask him?
  7. In this game there is no should as we all lose at different rates. I was initially depressed because it felt like the weight was coming off slow. Do you know for a fact that you're eating too much? Are you logging? I am in my 12th week and I am still on the plus side of 300. Keep your chin up. At least you have some idea of what you might be doing wrong. Go back to logging just for the purposes of data. :-)
  8. A lot of the post-op trials and tribulations now seem to be in the rear view mirror. The scale is moving again and I am within inches of being under 3 bills. Whuuuut!? I never thought I would see this. Also, I've got 110 pounds left to lose but this number does not seem nearly so high anymore. I get two really close milestones. The first one is being under 3 bills, then the next is no longer qualifying for surgery.
  9. When life gives you a bag of lemons, grab your Splenda and make some Lemonade. Since I'm down for the count with this pesky ulcer, there's no time like the present to dust off an old hobby of mine, Amateur Radio. I last worked with it almost 7 years ago. I am an FCC licensed General Class HAM radio operator. For anyone that cares, my call sign is KF7SVX. It's time for me to upgrade my license to Extra Class! I spent the past few days on marathon study sessions, despite feeling ill. This is something I've wanted to do for some time as the Extra is the unrestricted license which lets you use all amateur bands. It's very hard and the last time I studied for an exam was 7 years ago. It don't get easier when you get older, ha! Now I'm ready to test on May 24th. It felt so good to have something to provide some discipline. Of course the studying must continue. If it weren't for bariatric surgery, I might never have revisited the hobby. 10. I don't really know what the future holds. At this point, I hope it is not cancer. I had pretty persistent nausea pre-surgery but never really did anything about it. I think I might be paying for this mistake. Well, Monday I will hopefully learn a few more things. I am sorry to be a Debbie Downer but when the surgeon is worried, I would say that's some cause.
  11. Sorry, I just saw this. I'm very sick and the doctors are still figuring it out. It's gotten to the point where most food I'm unable to keep down. I'm weak and tired. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Thank you, @FluffyChix . Today, I am just too worn out to go to the gym. I slept about 7 hours but feel like I have had none. I had a scheduled follow-up with the sleep doctor and my blood pressure is off the charts. 166/100 today. Something could be really wrong. In fact, I am about ready to try and get some more sleep.
  13. Thank you. I actually am an atheist but I accept prayer as a well-wish. Again, thank you for your kind words. Recovery is one day at a time.
  14. Dumping syndrome is an untold misery. I start to sweat, shake, and get a rapid heart beat. Then there'd better be a throne nearby because lookout, she's gonna blow.
  15. My surgeon surprised me by dropping by during my appointment. There's good news and bad news. First, the good: I lost 2.5" from my neck and 6" from my waist. Now, the bad: My surgeon had taken a second look at the CT scan because apparently something else concerned her. I have a mass on my stomach that is worrisome and will need to be biopsied because she can't tell if it's a fatty mass or if it's something altogether different. FML! Oh well, biopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning and I will have to remain overnight.

  17. Today I have a follow-up with my program's nurse practitioner. If it wasn't for my hospitalization last week, it would've been a fairly clean follow-up. My surgeon wanted me to keep this appointment. I was really hoping to be able to begin weight lifting again. I might ask the NP if she could clear me for weight lifting even though the answer will probably be no. They say it never hurts to ask, so I will. I am concerned about losing muscle mass and I need to strength train my legs or cardiovascular progress won't happen. Perhaps I will be allowed to do something like the inclined leg press. This would be good enough.
  18. OMG! Viva Las Vegas! I've had some incredibly fun times there. I last went in February of 2015 when I took the Luxor for almost 2K at the black jack table. I reckon I need to go back there at some point.
  19. I'm almost 2 months post op and my A1C dropped from 7.8 to 6.4. I had gastric bypass because it has the best chance of permanent diabetes reversal. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. I am a slow loser. I am well behind the average. It sucks :-(
  21. I have days where I feel the same way except I have had a rough time of recovery. I spent 3 and 1/2 days in the hospital this week because I developed a stricture. I had my bypass on March 12th. The hardest part will be to find your new "normal" and getting used to it. Just take it one day at a time. Nausea is very unpleasant and because it is your body screaming about something it wants/needs and interpreting the sign is challenging. I think I found that I wasn't eating enough and my new "hunger pang" is nausea. I am just 1 week shy of 2 months post-op and weight loss has been agonizingly slow for me.
  22. Figuring out the new post-surgery normal takes some detective work and trial and error. I learned something new about myself over the past two days about the cause of the nausea I was experiencing. I never believed that the nausea was actually my body screaming for food because I don't get the classic hunger pangs and I know that I am well-hydrated as I carefully track the amount of liquid I drink. So, I upped my caloric intake to 1200 and started eating more frequently, like every two hours. Miraculously, the nausea has dissipated quite a bit. I am also making certain to get in 2-3 servings of fresh fruit and that has helped as well. Over the past two days, when I weighed myself in the morning I was down a pound each day. I should also add that I think something in the Mio flavor drops must've really been causing some irritation because I started feeling a little bit better after tossing them in the trash and just drinking good, old fashioned H2O. I did not get very good input from my program's R.D. I found I had to do a lot of work on my own to see what food ideas are good and what are not so good. Also, contrary to conventional wisdom about less sugar being better, I found that adding a daily Kind Protein Bar in helped me feel a whole better. By the nutrition label, it would be considered decent quality at 12g of protein and 8g of sugar. It just goes to show that each person's body is very different in its wants and needs. Despite adding the Kind Protein Bar, I have not seen an increase in blood glucose on the meter. Plus I discovered that my stomach has no problem with nuts at all and the bars digested smoothly. That said, I don't really want to eat more than one a day.
  23. I am getting away from the artificial sweeteners as much as possible now. I was using the Mio flavor drops and I think they were really doing my entire body a disservice. I got discharged from the hospital this morning (I had to go back due to a stricture) and the entire time all I had was water. I feel physically better as a result. Mio can suck it!
  24. I don't see the harm in pot. I would much rather encounter someone high on pot than drunk. I've neither seen nor heard of anyone going ballistic, high on grass.
  25. If CICO worked, there would be no need for all this other crap.
