Question...How many of you deal with a talking tummy? This is the absolute worse part of the surgery! I work with people all day, and my stomach (LOUDLY) gurgles as the worst times. Are there any relief tips? What do others do to tone down the sounds?

Cheating wasn't in my vocabulary during the liquid diet. I was not willing to succumb to temptations at such a crucial turning point in my life. It was tough on day 3, but it passed by the next day.

I am wearing baggie pants because I'm not ready to spend money on new clothes knowing I'll be losing more weight. I had to buy a new blouse yesterday for a special occasion. Seven weeks ago it would have been a 3X, but yesterday it was a 1X!

It's ironic you posted this because I am currently moaning about the nausea I am feeling right now after eating fish. I don't know that I regret the surgery because I couldn't do it any other way, but I am struggling with the food choices I have. I certainly don't enjoy food anymore, nor do I look forward to eating. It's only been six weeks, and I hope it gets better (for the both of us).

I chose RNY because of my 20 years of GERD, and the RNY usually gets rid of GERD. I have to take my Nexium for 6 months after surgery according to my doctor, then I can stop.

Okay I don't post much but I read ALOT. And something has been really really irritating me. After seeing this grammatical error more times then I can count I just can't take it anymore! ! I understand it's not that important to some people but honestly there's a huge difference between lose and loose. Lose means you lost something (weight etc.). Loose means that's something doesn't fit anymore( loose skin, loose clothing, etc). Thank you and that is all. [emoji51]

I notice grammar errors on all kinds of material, and I feel your pain. I'm a teacher, so it's a habit. However, I grit my teeth and continue past it when I'm not working with my students.
Since we're on the topic, here's a grammar lesson for you. [emoji57]
then = time
I will go shopping, THEN I will cook dinner.< br>
than = comparison
I see this error more THAN I can count.
Enjoy your day.

I had mine in for 11 days which was 11 days too long. LOL It was just the way my surgery and follow-up appointment fell on the calendar. My skin actually started to attach to the drain tube by removal day. It didn't hurt when he separated the two, but I was nervous. Your doctor knows how long it should be in, so you're probably good.
Best wishes to you.

My doc asked me if once he got in there and couldn't do the bypass, if I would rather get the laparoscopic sleeve or an open cut for the bypass. I chose the sleeve first, then open cut for bypass if the laparoscopic bypass was no longer an option. I followed the 2 week liquid diet and lost 23 pounds. I successfully had the laparoscopic RNY.
Best wishes to you.

I'm 4 weeks post-op and in the soft foods stage. I have been able tolerate all foods except brown rice. It felt too heavy and made me feel uncomfortable. I haven't told the family, either. The family who has seen me recently didn't say anything about my 41 pound weight loss so I might be able to continue with my secret. If they make a big deal about it, I will tell them. It will be easier to let them know rather than hide behind secrets. If they want to criticize me, I will thank them for their opinions and let them know it's falling on deaf ears.
Best wishes to you.

I don't know if this is normal, but I have the same problem. I called the doctor's office, and it must be normal because they didn't call back.

I was not “refuting” the advice. I was just explaining what I was told by a surgeon who has told the same thing to hundreds of other people who have taken his advice and had the results he promised. Also, you all act as if I am consuming nothing but carbs. At this point, I am only two weeks postop. I am lucky to get even 600 calories in a day, and in two weeks have had one banana. A typical day for me is a Protein Shake and two eggs in a 24 hour period. Hence, why I am wondering why I am still not losing any weight. I haven’t lost on ZERO carbs, and I haven’t lost on minimal carbs. Therefore, I was reaching out for possible reasons.
I think your effort to find some advice was reasonable. I'm following the plan as closely as possible without sabotaging it; although, it's difficult for me to get all my Protein in. I also need some Fiber so I eat a cup of fruit in its own juices which is in my plan. I lost about 22 pounds during my 2 week liquid diet and then an additional 14-ish in the last 3 weeks. Of course I wish I was at my goal today, but I am looking at the slower weight loss as a positive so it stays off. I also don't want my skin to freak out with huge drops weekly (not sure if it matters). Hang in there and be sure to talk to your team about your concerns. Best wishes. -
I'm supposed to be in the pureed stage, too. I'd rather not eat because purees are non-appetizing to me. I've transitioned myself to very soft foods: pintos and cheese, hamburger with gravy, grilled chicken, roasted veggies. I chew the meat very well before swallowing and I've done well so far. I sip all day. For Breakfast, I drink a Premier Protein shake. I don't enjoy the flavor, but I get it down. If it's too thick for you, try adding Water. I also eat pudding and popsicles. I'm waiting another week to officially get into the soft foods so my options increase. I feel your pain and I'm probably not offering much help. I just want you to know I'm not digging the pureed stage either. On another note, I'm also taking a class and had not been able to focus nor have the energy to apply myself. Luckily, my professor is working with me. Hopefully you can get that flexibility too. Best wishes.

From what my nutritionist described to me, it sounds like the onset of dumping, but honestly I don't know. What foods are you eating?

Your doc can prescribe meds or a patch until you feel better.

My team said RNY is considered the "top of the line" of WLS with the best long-term weight loss results. I've read many success stories of those who've had the sleeve, so I would bet it's more of a personal decision. I went to my consultation appointment thinking of the sleeve, but due to my chronic GERD, my surgeon recommended RNY. My surgery went well. Right now, I just want to eat regular food. No. More. liquids. LOL

I'm taking 5 weeks (going through Thanksgiving weekend). I'm 6 days post-op and in no way ready to return tomorrow. I am a slow healer and my incision on my left side is stitched. It's about an inch long with 4 stitches. I need at least another week to feel better mentally. Physically may take a third week. I've got the time, so I'm taking it.

liquid diet was similar. Did not use anything I packed except deodorant, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Slept most of the time I was in the hospital.

Had surgery Monday, 10/23. Home 10/25. Surgery wore me out, but not sick. Pain is manageable. Trying to get my walking in, but I'm so tired. Heparin shots are a pain. Doc never told me about those.

It's been almost 6 hours since the inception of my fiber/laxative delemma and so far everything is status quo. I hear a lot of gurgling and feel a little cramped, but that's it. I have a feeling it will hit sometime in the middle of the night when I'm dreaming about unicorns and rainbows. I hope my doc doesn't delay surgery in the morning because of this.

I do not like to vomit, either. I have not heard of it being an issue if you follow the plan. I heard it's more common when you overeat or eat something that doesn't agree with you. I will be sure to try one food at a time when I get to that phase. And I'll do it very carefully, too.

I can tolerate small amounts, but I typically do not crave sugary foods. I drink slightly sweetened tea every day and I tolerate that very well. I have had nausea and sweats when I had something too sugary that didn't agree with me.
