    Sugar

I can tolerate small amounts, but I typically do not crave sugary foods. I drink slightly sweetened tea every day and I tolerate that very well. I have had nausea and sweats when I had something too sugary that didn't agree with me.

Question...How many of you deal with a talking tummy? This is the absolute worse part of the surgery! I work with people all day, and my stomach (LOUDLY) gurgles as the worst times. Are there any relief tips? What do others do to tone down the sounds?

    Cons?

Cons: The sounds that come from my intestines is ridiculous, extremely embarrassing, and untimely I forget to eat slowly; otherwise, I'm down for about an hour or two Weakness due to lack of protein because it is hard to get it all in Best wish to you.

    Have you ever cheated?

Cheating wasn't in my vocabulary during the liquid diet. I was not willing to succumb to temptations at such a crucial turning point in my life. It was tough on day 3, but it passed by the next day. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Ok, how long to go down a trouser size?

I am wearing baggie pants because I'm not ready to spend money on new clothes knowing I'll be losing more weight. I had to buy a new blouse yesterday for a special occasion. Seven weeks ago it would have been a 3X, but yesterday it was a 1X! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Regret

It's ironic you posted this because I am currently moaning about the nausea I am feeling right now after eating fish. I don't know that I regret the surgery because I couldn't do it any other way, but I am struggling with the food choices I have. I certainly don't enjoy food anymore, nor do I look forward to eating. It's only been six weeks, and I hope it gets better (for the both of us). Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

What surgery did you choose and why

I chose RNY because of my 20 years of GERD, and the RNY usually gets rid of GERD. I have to take my Nexium for 6 months after surgery according to my doctor, then I can stop.

    It's lose not loose (smh)

I notice grammar errors on all kinds of material, and I feel your pain. I'm a teacher, so it's a habit. However, I grit my teeth and continue past it when I'm not working with my students. Since we're on the topic, here's a grammar lesson for you. [emoji57] then = time I will go shopping, THEN I will cook dinner. than = comparison I see this error more THAN I can count. Enjoy your day.

    Drainage and stitches question

I had mine in for 11 days which was 11 days too long. LOL It was just the way my surgery and follow-up appointment fell on the calendar. My skin actually started to attach to the drain tube by removal day. It didn't hurt when he separated the two, but I was nervous. Your doctor knows how long it should be in, so you're probably good. Best wishes to you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. I continually read, and my doc affirms, gastric bypass patients lose an average of 70% of their excess body weight. I'm a little disappointed because I will still be fat if I lose only that amount. What has been your experience? What has been your average weight loss per week?
  11. My doc asked me if once he got in there and couldn't do the bypass, if I would rather get the laparoscopic sleeve or an open cut for the bypass. I chose the sleeve first, then open cut for bypass if the laparoscopic bypass was no longer an option. I followed the 2 week liquid diet and lost 23 pounds. I successfully had the laparoscopic RNY. Best wishes to you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I'm 4 weeks post-op and in the soft foods stage. I have been able tolerate all foods except brown rice. It felt too heavy and made me feel uncomfortable. I haven't told the family, either. The family who has seen me recently didn't say anything about my 41 pound weight loss so I might be able to continue with my secret. If they make a big deal about it, I will tell them. It will be easier to let them know rather than hide behind secrets. If they want to criticize me, I will thank them for their opinions and let them know it's falling on deaf ears. Best wishes to you. Pain

I don't know if this is normal, but I have the same problem. I called the doctor's office, and it must be normal because they didn't call back.
  14. I'm supposed to be in the pureed stage, too. I'd rather not eat because purees are non-appetizing to me. I've transitioned myself to very soft foods: pintos and cheese, hamburger with gravy, grilled chicken, roasted veggies. I chew the meat very well before swallowing and I've done well so far. I sip all day. For breakfast, I drink a Premier protein shake. I don't enjoy the flavor, but I get it down. If it's too thick for you, try adding water. I also eat pudding and popsicles. I'm waiting another week to officially get into the soft foods so my options increase. I feel your pain and I'm probably not offering much help. I just want you to know I'm not digging the pureed stage either. On another note, I'm also taking a class and had not been able to focus nor have the energy to apply myself. Luckily, my professor is working with me. Hopefully you can get that flexibility too. Best wishes. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Issues after eating

From what my nutritionist described to me, it sounds like the onset of dumping, but honestly I don't know. What foods are you eating? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Change in plan

My team said RNY is considered the "top of the line" of WLS with the best long-term weight loss results. I've read many success stories of those who've had the sleeve, so I would bet it's more of a personal decision. I went to my consultation appointment thinking of the sleeve, but due to my chronic GERD, my surgeon recommended RNY. My surgery went well. Right now, I just want to eat regular food. No. More. Liquids. LOL Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Ooops!

Okay, so I'm doing my bowel cleanse and I drank a boatload of Metamucil. Then I went back to my binder and read MiraLAX! I went to the store to buy the correct product and now I'm working my way in the right direction. Do you think I might have drank too much by combining Metamucil and MiraLAX? Right now, I'm cramping a little, but not the physical act of cleansing.

    Time off

I'm taking 5 weeks (going through Thanksgiving weekend). I'm 6 days post-op and in no way ready to return tomorrow. I am a slow healer and my incision on my left side is stitched. It's about an inch long with 4 stitches. I need at least another week to feel better mentally. Physically may take a third week. I've got the time, so I'm taking it. Help needed

Liquid diet was similar. Did not use anything I packed except deodorant, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Slept most of the time I was in the hospital. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Had surgery Monday, 10/23. Home 10/25. Surgery wore me out, but not sick. Pain is manageable. Trying to get my walking in, but I'm so tired. Heparin shots are a pain. Doc never told me about those. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app
